NT, convince me "cutting the cord" is a good idea

For my cable bundle with HBO and my 2 DVR boxes no bundle my cable is $160 a month.
With sling you pay $20 then netflix....then the BeIN sports add on = $32 total. If i wanted HBO it would be an added $15 making it $47 per month

Thats still over $100 a month in savings. And I am adding BeIN sports with SLING but i don't have that right now through comcast if i wanted to add that its the full special sports package and is $15 a month extra.

So I am really considering this. If i get the bundle back some how it would drop from $160 to $118 for cable. Even then SLING is still a big savings for me.

You arent factoring in your cost of internet

I pay 80 for internet and all that plus net is 127 and less content. I only pay for netflix when it comes to streaming and i have amazon prime tv only because it comes with prime

My internet has been constant at $80 a month. So i just left that out of the equation because i know i will be paying it no matter what. Those numbers up there are just cable TV only.

Why do people not like sling though? I literally am doing it for ESPN and TNT and Food Network. Like does it not work? Or you just don't use it?

Can you switch? We have Comcast and Verizon in my area, cable companies consider you a new customer after 6mos. bounce back and forth

I heard that ESPN actually charges $3-5 per month to each cable TV customer, it's one of, if not the most expensive channels.

It's mindblowing.

In 2015 the estimated cable subscriber fee for ESPN was $6.55/month. Not a single other channel's fee was over $1.58/month.

You would think for that price we wouldn't have to also be subjected then to non stop beer, car, and insurance ads 24 hours a day.

Also:

ESPN is expected to cross the seven dollar mark in 2016 to as much as $7.21, according to estimates by SNL Kagan.

No thats the worst part. We have Comcast in Baltimore City and thats it. I could get dish. But would need installation and all that

So I have Sling and that's how my ESPN streams through on Apple TV. But there's no Sling APP on Apple TV and I can't seem to find a way to stream like TBS, TNT, etc through the same app. Anybody know what I can do? Otherwise ESPN on Apple TV works great. 1000x better than on Chromecast.

Can you cast content from your phone to an Apple TV? My CC has treated me well but I'm looking into alternatives

TNT down right now. on Slling.... :smh:

I talked with a rep and complained, said he'll pass it on. they really gotta upgrade the servers :x

All these SlingTV issues aint lookin good after I made the commitment to switch in the next month or so.

I posted before sling was trash

I don't value your opinion broheezy. sike nah, I took what you said into account but still feel like I need to find out for myself, especially since it's not THAT expensive.

They probably didn't think that they would have to improve their servers so soon. At this point, this is the best alternative to paying a grip for cable. I wish there was some other alternative but there isn't

It actually is quite expensive unless you dont have any other streaming services.

Because the cost of sling (20 bucks plus an optional 5 for any additional packages) on top of if you use netflix, hulu, prime, etc on top of cost of internet pretty much takes you into the territory of the cost of most cable companies "double play" plans.

I think sling would be better if they let you make your own package ala carte and charge you say 2 dollars per channel

But I'm planning on getting just internet through a Comcast promotion ($35/mo.) and then getting the SlingTV w/ the Kids channel add-on w/ the T-mobile discount ($25*.30 = $17.50), and my Netflix ($9/mo.) I have my own modem and router so I'm not payin rental fees and there's no taxes on just internet so I'm looking at about $61.50/mo. I'm paying $110 right now w/ Fios and that's w/ the $35 for the devices I'm renting. If I didn't have to pay for those, I'd keep what I have.

But you're right, somebody has to be the trendsetter and start offering a la carte, but it'll have to be the networks since they have the upper hand as far as how their channels get priced and bundled (see the legal issues Verizon is having w/ their pick your bundle option). It's crazy because companies like Disney, Viacom, Comcast, and Time Warner have enough channels to offer that but they won't do it.

A la carte is the future. Everyone wants it. I think it's just a matter of time before the momentum of all the people cutting the cord finally forces service providers to offer it as a last-ditch "carrot" to try to win customers back.

I actually hadn't heard of Verizon's FiOS "customized TV plans that offer 'slim' packages of specific cable programming channels," but based on this link it sounds like just another cable company scam. All of those bogus, hidden fees are what made me ditch my cable company...

I assume the 35 for internet is promo price. I always factor in after promo cost because sometimes if you arent lucky to live somewhere where there are other high speed competitors then comcast wont extend your promo price unless you go through the cancel and re sign up thing but i dont know how that works being that its the same user at the same address trying to act as a "new customer".

Google fiber should be starting sign ups this yr in my city so im def planning on jumping to them from comcast, unless comcast offers me a crack head deal to keep me

Yea, it's a promo price. We have both Fios and Comcast in my area so I was just going to cancel after the year if they didn't give me a hookup and get a promo through Fios, then after that, back to Comcast .

According to Comcast, you are considered a new customer after you've discontinued service for 6mos. Also, if you have a family member at the crib, don't add them to your account, that way they can't be counted and you could possibly cancel your service and then they can sign up.

My Cox Cable contract has expired and the new plan they tried to offer was pretty crappy. I already have Netflix and Amazon Prime accounts that I share with family. I was thinking of going with Sling and Hulu plus on my own dime. For March Madness coming up, what's the best HD antenna I can get so I can get live CBS and ABC for Sunday NBA. Any help would be gladly appreciated.

That customized FIOS plan is a ripoff. Lol I literally had 35 channels and was paying $120/mo (after taxes and fees) with 75/75 internet.

You can check your local stations by map if you google something like "what channels can I get with an hd antenna"

Just an FYI I tried the HD antenna thing and for some reason I got ZERO channels. I live about 60 miles northeast of NYC so it's not like I'm in Wyoming either

I pay $140 for cable and internet (Comcast blast).

It sucks because even if its not as expensive of what some people on here pay, we rarely watch tv. We basically just watch sports, the news, sprout/nickJR , PBS , HBO, and random movies that may be showing on TNT or FX. Most of the tv watching happens Saturdays and Sunday evenings.

I'm in Korea right now and I just run a ton of media apps through a Roku 4 and a Chromecast. Anything I can't get there, I get from Kodi on my laptop. My sister hooked me up with her Fios info so that helped a ton.
