See, this is why I hate eBay...

This doesn't really do much, tho.

You could just end up getting your *** kicked or worse.

You never know who you're dealing with.

What are you gonna do if you knock on dudes door and it's like Michael Jai White or some ****?

You just gonna pretend like you're selling candy for your basketball team?
I'll stick up for myself, I don't care who it is. If I get my *** whipped (unlikely) so be it. I'm coming back strapped. I'm not going to be played on the internet like some punk

This right here is the definition of doing too much.

I 100% feel WHERE you're coming from. But as a grown *** man, sometimes you gotta just chalk up the L because the potentially life-altering L should you do too much just isn't worth it over a couple hundred dollars.

So what you look like a punk to a stranger on the internet? You're gonna look like an even bigger punk when you're leaking that life liquid on someone's front porch because of a pair of sneakers. Or when you're in the clink because you showed up at a stranger's crib.......over a pair of sneakers.

Bros....make sure to cover yourself by doing the following on EBAY:

- Take pictures from every angle! Ebay allows like 12pics for free....USE THEM!

- Add in your description:

"SOLD AS IS.  IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, CONCERNS , OR NEED MORE PICTURES OF THE ITEM, PLEASE MESSAGE.  ONCE YOU BID, YOU ARE IN AGREEMENT OF THIS AUCTION AND AGREE TO NO REFUNDS"

Honestly you could put all that but if the buyer files a credit card chargeback your more then likely still screwed since the case is with the buyers credit card company not with PayPal.

Still though I put something similar in my auctions and I also put something along the lines of "I'm aware that a very small percentage of buyers will buy an item and intentionally file a fraudulent chargeback after receiving the item to keep the item and get their money back. For anyone even thinking about trying that, legal action will be pursued and mail fraud and fraud across state lines is a felony and I will pursue it until I get things resolved"

Personally I think something like this deters scammers. If their going to fraud they want an easy victim who will just take the L rather then someone who's aware of the scams already and who is willing to being them problems.

I feel you but at the same time I'm not gonna go in guns blazing, I could be at the wrong place and severely beat up a random person

It all depends on the situation. If it's a little kid or something me going to his house might positively impact his life to the point he'll never even think of doing people dirty again.

I could also scope the place out to make sure I got the right person(if he's wearing my kicks it's on ) also like I said if I sold a $100 to a guy in cali I might just let it go.

Truthfully, all of this means nothing when it comes to eBay.

I always use 12 pics....they're free so why not?  And I always let them know to contact me with questions before buying and that all sales are final.

None of it matters.  eBay's policies will always trump whatever you write in your description.

It depends on how you handle it. If I had incriminating messages between me and the buyer I would go to their local police station and hope that an officer would go up there with me.

I would do my research on the buyer, find out where they work or go to school. If I could find that info I would just confront them at their job or contact their schools superiors and let them know the deal. I fly for free so if the dollar amount was high enough I would pursue action. I doubt id confront them at their house though.

A while ago when I had a chargeback filed against me I was able to find the guys work place and his wife's job and where his teenage son went to school at. I called the guys job and told him I'm the guy he scammed; he could either cancel the claim and never hear from me again or I would be contacting his superiors with documented proof of how he frauded me and how that is a terrible representation of their company. Dude was shook I found out where he worked at and cancelled the claim that same day.

So why even ask "why does my age matter"?

And you can cut the tough guy act. I've seen your pics. Only thing your beating up is a bag of chips.
 funny dude. Its crazy how ive got people ive never spoke to before develop these strong negative opinions about me like they've known me for a long time. Do you though, im gonna stop entertaining people like you

I sold a mont blanc pen and buyer said that it was used. In the dispute case, i mentioned how I described everything and took pictures from all angles, and also stated that the item was sold as is with no returns, and that the buyer agreed by bidding...ebay/paypal sided with me. See by stating this in the dispute as well as in the ebay listing, you have the edge.

You got lucky man.  Also, the fact that it was used probably helps too.  If you knowingly bid on a used item, you acknowledge that it's used so there should be no surprises.

But what happens when you list an item as new and they claim it's used?  No amount of pictures is going to prove that they're not used.  In my recent dispute, I used the exact same pictures from the auction, magnified them and circled in red the exact same "defects" that the buyer was complaining about.  They were there plain as day for eBay to see and they still sided with the buyer.

So I'd say that with used items you're good.  But let someone claim a new pair of shoes aren't really new and you're going to have a negative Paypal balance 9 out of 10 times.

for guys that have been selling shoes on ebay/paypal for years, about how many times have they had this happen to them? Out of 100 transactions how many would you say approximately have had people play games with you?

See, THIS is how you do it.  Reps to you, sir.  I'm not opposed to handling things this way at all--ain't nothing wrong with some research and recovery.

Right.

So instead of just taking the couple hundred dollar loss, you're willing to buy 2 round trip flights + an *** whooping + possible jail time.

Makes sense.

It's the principle

OP got high end fees and even the PayPal fees. He broke even

I wish somebody would low ball me, I would be like OK so don't the money, but the buyer finding them shoes in his mailbox gonna be like trying to find that missing plane

so when he does it its ok but when I do it its childish(ohmygoshers words not mine)?

Where's the video of the man who drove his truck to the west coast to reclaim his engine when a buyer did a fraud PayPal chargeback

Yeah man, its not worth catching a case putting hands on some teenage kid or in a worst case scenario the scammer lives on the south side of Chicago in whatever projects they got out there. Nothing good would come out of a visit up there.

Sellers just gotta be cautious though. Ever since I put my warning to those who try the chargeback stuff in my listings I haven't had one since.

To the dude with the pens. If he had filed a credit card chargeback its likely you would've lost that regardless of how in the right you were and how descriptive and honest your listing was. If you do things by the book and are honest its very possible to win an ebay dispute but chargebacks are a whole other animal. Hopefully ebay/PayPal do something to fix that issue though because its a very flawed setup currently which can easily be exploited.

Please tell me you can understand the difference between physically showing up at someone's house unannounced, as opposed to calling them at their job to let them know that you won't be frauded without a fight.

Big difference, sir.

yeah you got it. I probably worded it bad. Showing up at random guys house is not the best idea and acting tough to that point could get me in some sort of trouble. Im man enough to admit my mistakes and it is childish (foolish too) to just show up at someones crib like that. That was just my gut reaction though and sometimes my emotions get the best of me.

O ohmygosher you're right, that was childish on my part. if I were to realistically fight back against a scammer (which I would like to do when/if it occurs to me) ill explore all possible options instead of that.

Once again PayPal does protect you as long as you ship via PayPal and use signature tracking and ship to confirm address

You'll be protected in a PayPal claim. If the buyer filed a dispute with PayPal.

However if they side stepped PayPal and contacted their credit card company and said it was a fraudulent transaction, the credit card company would place the transaction on hold, PayPal would then place the funds on hold in your account.

PayPal has minimal say in chargebacks, the credit card company is the judge, jury, and executioner in chargeback cases. The messed up part is that if you lose the chargeback, PayPal hits you with a $25 chargeback fee or so. Kinda like rubbing salt in the wound.

^If you followed all of paypals policies it doesn't matter what the outcome of the chargeback is, they will cover you even if they have to pay you themselves.

On another note, I thought I would tell you all about a new scam I had run on me not too long ago.

Buyer in Russia buys a $385 jacket and leaves it at the post office over there, they hold on to it until he comes to pay the customs charges. Buyer files a item not received, it is escalated and closed in the buyers favor while the tracking number still reads "in transit". They refund the buyer out of my account, the very next day I get an email, outside of ebay of course, stating that he just got a note form the post office telling him to come pick the package up. :rolleyes He offers me about half what he paid, $180. I don't know why cause he could have kept it at that point, he was already refunded and case closed. I take his $180 and appeal the paypal case since the tacking number now says delivered. I win the appeal only to find out that winning the appeal does not mean I get my money back. They tell me they don't have the authority to take money back from the buyer after they close the case, regardless of the outcome of the appeal. All they were willing to do was email the buyer and tell him to pay me. No acct suspension, no negative balance or nothing for him. Luckily they agreed to give me a $200 courtesy credit so i pretty much broke even.

But watch out for those international buyers, stay updated on the tracking status of your international mailings. If one is taking longer than usual file a complaint with USPS immediately. If you're quick, USPS will force the hand of the international destinations post office before the paypal case closes.

Tis' all good, sir.  I think everyone initially has that type of reaction to getting played like that.  **** is infuriating.  But the important thing is making rational decisions instead of emotional ones.

I know you saw the video of buddy trying to flex at the gas station who ended up on the concrete yoga mat.  Don't be that guy.
