Peter Rosenberg says Jay-Z is riding Kanye West's Coattails & gets checked by Jay

The truth is that both MCHG and Yeezus sucked.  When you pick one you like more, you're just picking the one that sucked less.

Jay doesn't need Kanye now

he took what he needed from Kanye already.
a pass for at least 5 more years.

I'm forever a Jay fan, but I don't live in fantasy.
he's smart enough to take new things from fresher artists and make it his.

Jaz
Nas
Big
Young Chris
Kanye

I don't think he's a pure leech, AKA puffy, but somewhat of a curator that knows what people want.

Yeezus probably had two good tracks, MCHG was fairly good, some bangers on there for sure.

about 90% of the ppl that even bought yeezus was cuz of the red octobers tickets in the cds

People comparing MCHG to Yeezus? LOL at people thinking Kanye made Yeezus to appeal to the masses. You think if he wanted to he could have made another Graduation to satisfy the average listener? Of course he would. He went in a new direction and it was a true reflection of his emotions and mindset at the time (frustration with the penetrating the fashion industry, etc.) True artist right there. If you can't relate to it, that's fine, maybe you aren't in that space right now in your life.

But Jay's album? Where your biggest song off the record is due to a hook pre written by Justin Timberlake, where you verse is completely forgettable (JT sold that track.......) No cohesiveness, talking about struggling with fame, hasn't this done millions of times before? What new ground was he breaking there?

Whether you enjoy on album over the other is up to you. But they both had different purposes. Personally for me Yeezus >>>>>>>>>>> MCHG and it's not even close.

Kanye is the most relevant artist in pop culture right now. Just accept that. From The Blueprint till today Kanye played a huge role in Jay's sound and is responsible for some of the greatest production done at the time. At the same time Jay played a huge role in Kanye's brand as his co sign has opened doors for him and gave him a pass on many of his iffy moments. They benefit from each other.

jay say we off timbs......ye rocks em within that month......next thing we see is Jay rockin them again

jay stans say "it's just rap...it's not serious"

/troll

but it did go down like that for real tho

Dudes on here say that nonsense all the time.

Jay got my numbers. He ain't ring my phone. He knows my opinion is solid.

Rosenburg just terry cloth. J**** knew he could blast ol' boy.

On that note. Nah. Jay is what he is, and Ye' ain't influencing anything but his wardrobe choices from time to time.

Jay had a kid, then Kanye had a kid. Ye' riding Jay's fatherhood coattails? :nerd:

This thread is going to go 20+ pages once the capes come out there. BOTH SIDES... Its only a matter of time before Yeezusdisciple finds his way here with his legion, Antidope and Deeuce King gon' have their hands full.

illPhilip is going to be caught all up in the whirlwind, and the WTT fans will be confused not knowing what side to fight for.

Peep Game Peep Game 's empty spoiler almost made me drop my laptop though

EDIT -

Yeezusdisciple found his way here already. Kept it classy sir :smokin

all this means nothing

Kanye thinks he had one of the best verses on that album

he's delusional.
I'm A HUGE FAN of where he went with that album production wise, but I can't listen to the garbage he rapped over it.

Jay didn't even have a lead single or video though. People got hype off a SAMSUNG commercial. He GAVE the album away for FREE and it still went #1 and is platinum. I still copped even though I had the app.  No artist has ever done that before and nobody is big enough to do that besides Jay.

This album proved to the world he is still the biggest/most popular rapper right now.

Holy Grail ain't even the best record

Heaven, Crown, Oceans even Tom Ford.

yea Ye has contributed a lot to Jay career, but i feel Jay has done just as much for Ye...and i feel Ye would say the same thing

you can't look at it onesided... When Blueprint came out Jay could have got anybody from Bink to Rza to Amadeus to No ID or more Just Blaze tracks

Ye was out before Blueprint 1 but the Blueprint 1 solidified Ye imo, made me and nerds who like to search the credits actually want to know who produced those tracks - they needed each other

how does it have no replay value when people are listening to yeezus everyday???

and im sure many people like antidope listen to mchg everyday also.

u cant just say oh idont like it the album must suck.

why does it matter who i am?

Jay helped rap get to the point where collabs with groups like Coldplay and Daft Punk are acceptable by having such a broad presence in the musical landscape for so long that other genres took note. So its kind of backwards to want to limit who Jay can work with by virtue of him being an elder statesman in the game or by who worked with them first. Most of the acts knew who Jay-Z was before Kanye west ever dropped an album.
nice post but this part im not really sure about to me jay-z is a rapper's rapper , he didnt really push the genre musically and creatively

his biggest influence was on the business side of the game . he didnt really seem

to take too many risk's as an artist . kanye likes to aim for the stars ,and he might  fail more often then some other mainstream rappers

but he seems to take a few more risk's to push boundaries in the genre which to me is admiral .

as for helping collabs like coldplay and daft punk happen i also give credit to people such as

run dmc , a tribe called quest , the beastie boys , outkast etc

Lets just get this straight. Neither one of these ****** were the first at ANYTHING.

But Ye is more of a risk taker...

Ye will see something thats new and pushing "culture", but was failed before him on a major scale and try it. Jay will wait to see if the water is warm.
