Planning a weekend to Chicago..

Go to Dimo's pizza, get chicken and waffle pizza. Go by the United Center and see the Jordan statue. Take a walk on Lake Shore drive, even if it is chilly, the lake's nice. Steer clear of the south side and the West side. Otherwise, Google is your friend. I've heard good things about the art museum downtown....

Got an idea what you want to do?

Lawrys steakhouse is good, restaurants are dependent upon what you want to spend....

You take some nice pics. I'm was gonna post mine til I saw yours. What camera do you use if you don't mind? :nerd:

Nah man.....post away. I think if anyone traveled with me, they'd be quite annoyed how long it takes me to get that one pic. But I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark 3 but shot those with the Mark 2 at the time and most are with a 24mm & 50mm lens.

Also this place was cool for like 45 minutes if you like drinking and playing old video games: http://www.yelp.com/biz/emporium-arcade-bar-chicago

if you are a beisbol baseball fan, id recommend the Wrigley Field tour for $25...so much history, if you are into that sort of thing

http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/chc/ballpark/tours/index.jsp?content=daily

NON-GAME DAY TOURS:
•  Seating bowl
•  Press box
•  Bleachers
•  Visitor's clubhouse
•  Cubs' clubhouse
•  Cubs' dugout
•  Field

All stops and locations are subject to availability.  Specific tour routes are established each day based on events and activities in the ballpark.

GAME DAY TOURS:
•  Seating bowl
•  Bleachers
•  Indoor batting cage
•  Field

Game Day Tours will NOT visit the clubhouses, but will instead visit our indoor batting cage and enter the ballpark before gates open to experience the excitement of a game day at Wrigley Field.

For restaurants, I recommend Girl and the Goat, Au Cheval, The Publican, or Avec. Xoco/Frontera/Topolobampo are all pretty good as well.

And if you get up to the north side, Chilam Balam is one of my favorite restaurants.

Late afternoon lunch and craft brews @ Rock Bottom
this is the only ehh thing i see in the itinerary...

...Chicago has so many great, local spots...id personally go to Goose Island up in Wrigleyville (2 blocks west off the addison redline stop) if you feel like taking the ride up there...

i know you only have a limited amount of time tho, but thats just me...

Hands down, one of the best cities in the world. Especially during the summer. I'll try to quickly add things others have not said.

Food

- Do try a Chicago style hot dog. If it's your first time having one most places make a decent one but if you want the best..Hot Doug's, Superdawg, Wolfy's, or Jimmy's
- get a Deep Dish Pizza (Malnattis, Gino's East or Giordano's)
- Get a steak (Gibson's and David Burke's are my favorites) bring plenty of money though..PLENTY OF MONEY. For Burke's you may have to try and reserve a table now. Gibson's you can get in pretty easy
- A lot of folks say Harold's chicken is a must...I've been 2 or 3 times and never had a wow experience. Overrated to me.

Places
- If its summer...do take an architectural tour on the river
- Navy Pier..overrated to me but worth a quick stop after a boat tour
- Sears Tower if its your first time in the city...Hancock is a better experience
- Grant Park in summer...must
- Shopping on Magnificent mile is cool but if you already live in a major city they don't have anything you can't find where you live. If you live outside a major city and like high end stuff...must do

Violence

- Make no mistake...Chi town is not for the faint of heart. It's definitely real out there but if you stay in or around downtown you are probably alright. Just be smart and you'll probably be fine. Oh yeah...there used to be a thing where a certain type of ball cap could get you run up on no matter where you were. I haven't been there in 2 or 3 years so I don't know if that's still the case. Can anybody from Chicago help him out? :nerd:

Agree x100000. Rock Bottom is a national chain bar/restaurant that has no significance to Chicago. It's like going to Chicago to eat at Applebee's

good call on Goose Island, always been a fan of 312.  Will go there instead.

Meil Cafe and Juice Bar is amazing for breakfast... Bub City is a good alterantive to Rock Bottom, if you don't wanna make the trip to Goose Island...

I've also heard this. Anyone know if its true, and if so what kind of hat? I'm going for a weekend in April with my girl and I'm not tryna die for wearing a baseball cap!

Goose Island has some great brews. Across the Street is this spot called Old Crow that has some decent BBQ and solid mixed drinks. You should also stop by Nisei Lounge in Wrigley if you're into dive bars at all.

Whatever you do, get a shot of Malorts at some point. You won't regret it.

If I remember right you don't want to wear a Seattle Mariners hat with the trident on it. View media item 871466

i mean wearing that hat isn't the bestttt idea but its not that bad. especially where he is staying. Downtown won't be a bother. Cocking of the hats too.... But chicago is a blast and worrying bout that stuff should be number 20058834383 on your worry list. just have fun.
