The white boy with the goat rap album ? Yes. illmatic top 5 ? Nope. Life after death better than ready to die ? Absolutely. This is the unbiased top 5 rap albums
 
don't know if MMLP is number one, but it definitely deserves a spot in a top 10 list. there's plenty of albums that had an big effect on hip hop besides that one.
 
All you naysayers post a better list. Oh wait it doesn't exist. These 5 albums are the epitome of the hip hop classic.

So we just gonna act like illmatic did not change the landscape of hip hop lyrically and production wise

So we just gonna act like Reasonable doubt was not even a top 5 hip hop album of 1996

So we just gonna act like Outkast and tupac dont exist

Illmatic is an amazing album and did change the landscape of hip hop but it doesn't stand the test of time like these albums do. Tupac's best work (7 day theory) still isn't a top 5 rap album all time sorry.

As far as albums that are better than MMLP, RD, and OB4CL, I'd say:

ATLiens, Be, Resurrection, The Infamous, 36 Chambers, Moment of Truth, several Roots albums, Low End Theory, The Cold Vein, Doggystyle... I could go on. I'm not all that against OB4CL in the top 5 or 10, but RD and MMLP = Not a chance.

yeah how did Illmatic not withstand the test of time but is discussed more than any of the albums listed?

My 5. MMLP being the best rap album ever is straight stupid, it shouldn't even be considered top 5. RD wasn't even the best album to drop that year. LAD has amazing tracks but also songs that suck ***.

:rofl: at me being a Eminem Stan you people are so ridiculous with your generalizations. Standing the test of time = still sounding fresh and new and not stale when you play it 5+ years later. Not to rustle jimmies but NONE of Pacs albums past the test in 2014. The majority of them sound like Dog ****. A lot of you guys are clamoring for illmatic over the chronic which is understandable but still to this day you hear new albums dropping influenced by that same sound that Dre introduced with the chronic. A whole coast still has that same feel and vibe to its music almost 25 years later. The Chronic did more for West Coast rap than illmatic did for East Coast rap.
