Getting your own Apartment for the first time?

I'm 24. I needa move out now. I'm tryna find an apt for like $300-$500 a month. By myself no roomies. I can pay bills and still take care of my wants.
damn, good luck...  I dont know where you at, but around here the cheapest 1 BR i could find was like 900 and it was dump

Bruh how in the Hell you spend $200 on gas and food each in a month? You must be a fat lazy mofo.

If you on a budget you need to cut down on intake. Are you pregnant op?

Haha, I feel you op. I'm in NJ and I spend about $300 on my whips on gas alone a month and about ~$15/day on food.

But I was in your shoes once, I was making ~$450 a week and my bills looked similar to yours. I used to have the time of my life but it was the first time I remember making sacrifices like not being able to go on trips, buy a better car, etc and it sucks looking back. You just have to decide if your wallet being tight is worth "living alone". Dating girls with money will definitely be your best friend though if you choose to do it.

because I don't have $ to buy a house right now, and I was going to rent but for the prices of renting i can buy so I am.

Buying a place for $160,000 after some negotiating

Your buying a apartment for $160,000 ?

Your buying a apartment for $160,000 ?
It might be a condo

Can't get **** for anything under 215k where I'm at

Op good luck

venom lyrix venom lyrix is most likely in the process of getting a co-op apartment maybe... $160,000 of a condo in NYC or LI doesn't sound right because condo's in NYC are pushing house prices in the $350,000 price range.

I'm stacking right now to buy a crib though.

Although you have your list of monthly expenses, expect **** to pop up out of nowhere that you'll need to pay for. It sucks because you have your money/list accounted for, then some random **** will happen that causes you to dig into your bank account.

Also, miscellaneous things you took for granted at home will make you upset that you don't have now and have to pay for

my dude probably got that expensive ashley furniture :pimp:
He got moneyyyyyyy

are you ignorant? i buy premium gas for my whip because thats all it takes and gas is 3.30 a gallon in nj... and my crib now is far from my job which is part of the reason why i want to move... i drive 60 miles a day to work so i fill up every week... and i dont even know how to cook so im just guessing 200 will be enough for groceries
This is why I can't get a luxury vehicle right now. I'm not ready for that premium gas life. I will be the broke ***** putting regular gas in my leased 4 series. I'll stick with my Camry for now

yea top floor (3rd) corner 1 bedroom apt. It's got a unique layout room wise and it's big enough for me and my girl. It's also my first place, I'm 25 and I've saved up a chunk of change. It's always been my goal to move out and get my own place and now i'm making it happen

Man OP you talking about not buying unwanted things like Jay's... well I stopped buying kicks like that last pair I think was the Phoenix Foams... but being on this website definitely gives you urges especially when things like this are posted...

My girl is going to kill me  we're supposed to be stacking for a house, which we are, and I'm supposed to be selling off my collection but now I want these :frown:

Good luck with the not spending on random crap... :smh:

Where do you people live that you think these rent prices are "normal"

must be nice...that or yall are delusional

here are two of my bachelor essentials

rice steamer with veggie tray, foreman grill and toaster oven.

i cook but sometimes its easier to prep a chicken breast with a lil seasoning and pop it on the forman grill or toaster oven
These plus a Nutri-Bullet or good single serving blender

You're moving into a co-op apartment right?

I was looking into them, but then depending on how the board is it can be awry.

I'm with you on that man.  If those were the "normal" rent prices where i lived, i would be saving to get the hell out of that area.

You guys have to remember some of these dudes on here is from other parts that aren't that expensive like NY, CA, Chicago...

yes it is a coop, amazing safe high end neighborhood. They allow dogs which is something I was really looking for, most places only allow cats, and it's walking distance to the train which is important for my girl who works in the city

Ha I feel you.

I just went through my initial deposit with the lawyers, and next step is the board. I'm not worried but it's a hassle. Hopefully I'll be moved in by about August

You are right, i have no idea what costs of living are in more rural areas, or even in urban areas outside of the northeast..

it's mind boggling to me that you can get a halfway decent place to live for $350-$500

yes, I live in NY but the idea that such a small sum can get you comfortable living is not in my realm of thinking

Ok so i made a timetable of when I want to move out preferably August to get my finances straight and other responsibilities to take care of. Im hoping some of you who moved out your parents crib can shed some light on this topic and this would be a good resource for people thinking of moving out... The first order of business is paying off my expenses which is my car and my student loan.... i already paid my car off yesterday and should be completed tomorrow and hopefully in 2 weeks i will get my title... i have the money to pay my student loans off in full but my parents offered to pay half so i will let them do that... ok now heres the part where i need help which will be budgeting my money to keep up with the monthly expenses like apartment, gas, food, cell phone, cable, insurance and utilities...i am looking at getting an apartment at 850 or less im in NJ btw central to be exact... my paycheck ranges between 900-1100 every 2 weeks but mostly in between... my paycheck fluctuates because i work overtime and i do it most of the time but my hours are never consistent... i get paid hourly....so ya will i have enough to move out? im considering not moving out until i get a better job... and i plan on living by myself and not getting a roommate and even though a roommate would help cut costs i just want my own place period...

gas - 200

food - 200

cable with internet - 150

insurance 100

apartment 850

cell phone 57

utilities ?
You don't make enought to live on your own comfortably. You can do it but it's gonna be tough. Your monthly rent should be no more than 1 weeks pay. Until then either stay at the rents house or get some roomates...

I heard rent should be around a weeks pay but entire month's bill? That doesn't seem realistic at all

What about those that get payed bi-weekly like OP?

In different parts things are going to vary... if you're in your early 20's making in one paycheck to cover rent and whatever costs you guys say should be covered in one week living somewhere like NYC or CA then salute.

I forgot how the saying goes, but I remember there was some rule to determine how much you should be spending or whatever.

divide by two? It'll be hard to do that in larger cities though, just have to be smart with your money

If payed bi weekly then rent should equal 1/2 of bi weekly pay. Rent costs def depend on where you live. Growing up in the NY/NJ area my first 3 apartments were with roomates. I left home at 18 and didn't live alone until I was 25...
