Woke up this morning and realized I been through a lot financially in the past. And what I went through just served as an eye opener to get my stuff together

For example. There's been times when BOTH my bank accounts would be at $1.00 and $0.36 respectively, and rent was due the next day. I had to pawn off one of my favorite gold chains.

There's been instances where, on a Thursday, (and I get paid on a Friday), id need gas for my car and I have no more than $1 in my account. In this case I would go to a gas station and use my debit card as a credit. Why? Because they only charge your card $1 to authorize it and then within 4 days the full amount of the gas purchase would post to your account

Other instances where emergencies would come up and id have to go to an ATM and overdraft $100 from my account when I only had like $20. Yea id get paid the next day, but if still get hit with that good ol $30 charge

That was years ago, and I'm doing pretty well off now. Glad that happened to me in the past though. Gave me a real good kick in the balls to let me know "ayo this life **** is real my *****...get your finances together."
So a ***** started saving better and stopped spending on dumb ****

Just wanted to share and let people talk about what problems they've been through

I can relate to your examples, but I'm fully aware that any financial problems I had growing up was all due to me being stupid with the money I had and I deserved it. Doesn't it sound silly when you say you "had to pawn off one of my favorite gold chains" because rent was due?

But you have to experience it to learn from it, I'm just glad that I was able to put in the work to change all that.

Congrats!

I've been in financial holes like yourself OP. But I got through it thanks to the help of others, that I'm very grateful for and will not forget to return the favor.

Other than that, when the going gets tough I always remind myself there are others who have it worse. My cousin just lost her husband because some drunk dumb*** decided it was ok to run a red light. I started off my week in a pretty bad mood, because I had some problems that required me to visit a doctor. I was stressing out bad, because of that and other things like relationship **** I'm going through. And then I heard that news.. everything else I thought was holding me down went numb. So I tried to be strong and lend my strength to her, who needs it more than I do.

The crazy thing is, as I was driving home the other day (before I heard the news of my cousin) I saw a woman crying behind me. I was thinking, man, I don't know what she's going through but for all I know she could be having a worse day than I am. So when you feel down, pick yourself back up because there are other people out there who need your positivity to keep going.

1st year living on my own I only ate a cup of noodles and string cheese for months on end. Couldn't manage my money properly.

small potatoes compared to many but dealing with a large debt load has been stressful as hell...

trying to stay hyper focused on it for so long (3+ years) has been mentally taxing...

...have made some decent progress tho, paid off a huge portion of it so far...

You are blessed good sir. I lost my grandma to cancer last year so I know how tough it can be.

I lost my grandfather to it last year. It from smoking tho. I cant stand cigs no and my wife is a smoker. You talking about rough times smh. Most of our arguments are about her smoking.
