A great film with a great message, Ed Norton reserve dunking is still one of the most unrealistic things I've ever seen in a movie

My friend met the real Derek Vinyard at a college presentation. His name is Frank Meeink and American History X is very loosely based on his life.
Facts that were changed:
Just thought I'd share with people who liked the movie.
Facts that were changed:
- It all really happened in Philadelphia, not Venice Beach
- He didn't have a brother (Edward Furlong's part was based on Meeink's best friend)
- He didn't have a black friend in prison. He commented he would have been killed had be befriended a black inmate. However, a Jewish man hired him out of prison, which changed his belief system.
- The swastika tattoo was removed from his head, not his chest

Hands down on of my favorite films of all time
Complete robbery that Ed Norton didn't take home any awards for this. All the acting in this movie makes you feel the awkwardness of the racism and tension.

Pretty much this.
I don't understand how people are calling this movie racist, it wasn't preaching racism it was doing the opposite. It's like calling Roots racist.The point of the movie was to movie how ignorant racism is.
