Before anyone asks... THE WRESTLEMANIA PPV PREDICTION CONTEST WILL BE POSTED ON WEDNESDAY.
Tonight is the go home show for WrestleMania XXX. I'm not sure if it is because WWE isn't pressing as hard since this is the first time they aren't worried about PPV buys since everyone has already bought The Network. Or maybe the creative team is just in a funk. But I'm really not feeling the build toward's much of this year's WrestleMania outside of one match.
My biggest problem, and I have heard many people voice similar complaints, is the build for The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar. WWE has done NOTHING to make us think that Brock has any chance against The Undertaker. They've squared off twice, and both times Taker got the better of Lesnar, and Lesnar basically ran away with his tail between his legs. The build towards this match should have been so simple. Brock Lesnar is the real life, unstoppable UFC monster who will be the one to end the streak. The Undertaker's age is starting to take a toll on him. Brock would overpower The Undertaker every time they got into it. The doubt would set in if The Undertaker was too old and "still had it" to beat a monster like Brock. SIMPLE. Instead, Brock has looked like a *****, and I don't think there is anything they can do tonight to make fans legitimately think there is even a sliver of a chance that Taker is losing on Sunday.
Then we have HHH and Daniel Bryan. I think the build for this has been pretty good. You can say what you want about HHH and Stephanie, and personally I hate them, but they play unbelievably good heel characters. Mostly I think because their characters are just a reflection of themselves, especially Steph. After the beating that Bryan took two weeks ago and then missing Raw last week, I would still keep Bryan semi-weak this week. Make him look like a real underdog going into Mania where he overcomes the odds. I will be extremely disappointed if the finish of Bryan and HHH is anything other than HHH tapping out to the Yes Lock clean in the middle of the ring.
There isn't even any point in talking about Orton and Batista, because these two are complete afterthoughts with no real story in the title match picture. And that is a major negative on WWE's part. The fact that your WWE Champion and major name returning star are two guys have have no story and fans don't care about at all. And they'll both be in the main event of WrestleMania.
The match I'm most interested in is Bray Wyatt v John Cena. After the first week where it looked like this would be another cringeworthy Cena program where Cena was cracking Jimmy Buffett jokes about Bray, it has gotten really good. The story has now become that Cena has been the top guy for so many years, but his body is starting to break down on him, and Bray is the evil guy who will take advantage of it. Almost what they should have been doing with The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar. With Cena not in a main event program this year, this is the perfect time to elevate a new guy like Bray, and hopefully he gets a strong win come Sunday. It took me a while to come around on Wyatt, but now I'm a pretty big fan.
The other matches on the show are pretty much just filler. The Usos v The Real Americans v Los Matadores v RYBAXEL has been moved to the preshow. Then we have the 30 Man Andre The Giant Battle Royal, The Shield v Kane and The Outlaws, and the Divas match. I'm so disappointed that The Shield are in basically a nothing match.
