Mad Men Season 7 Discussion Thread - Final Episodes - SERIES FINALE

Man, I'm genuinely happy for my dude Pete. As much as I couldn't stand him early on, he really made a 180 and slowly became one of my favorites on the show. Glad he got back with his fine *** wife and is on the come up.

Really felt for Betty.. but they needed to give her something as a send off since she played a minimal character as the seasons progressed. Francis is generally a good dude and you could tell he really cares for her.

Don showin' the younger him some love, I bet he squanders it though

Great episode, mainly because of Pete's story.. Don's was interesting as well.

Last episode is srs gonna have me feeling some type of way. Such a great show with rarely any misses, very consistent.

If anybody deserved to get cancer for all the smoking on this show it's Betty Draper. Even despite she's changed a bit and mellowed out I wasn't sad at all.

The writers are really pretty much sending these characters off in tot he sunset with satisfying or straight up happy endings.

Nice to see Pete make up with Trudy like that. Crazy how all the partners from the OG agency are one by one leaving McCann

Don's story this ep was something else. A nice twist with him giving advice to a younger would be con man. I would've liked it if it just ended with him actually revealing what happened during the war to sort of therapeutically get that off his chest.

I kind of at that moment thought he would even go further and reveal all of it. But damn, old man with the yellow pages had some OG strength in those swings.

What are you confused about?

The whole interaction and vibe like they knew each other.

Then the way she went from despising him to ****** him in the alley in seconds.
Don was weird with her cuz she reminded him of someone else. Roger left a 100 tip. Don came back the next day to spit game and she banged him thinking he was buying her services. Sort of a one time thing for her so he'd leave. Don obviously didn't know what she was talking about and just kept pursuing her.

She as we find out is pretty ****** up herself so it explains or previous weird interactions.

I was just as confused as Don. like what the **** is going on?

Why would he take their money? They a bunch of drunk bums. I'm really wondering what that kid planted to make it look like Don robbed them.

I thought they came in 'cause they thought what he did in Korea was cowardly and knew what he had done (changing his identity, etc) and were there to **** him up over that at first. Didn't think it would be about money.

I think we've seen the last of Pete, Peggy, Sally , Betty. And maaaaaybe roger.

Last ep will be all don.
Even though I feel like Roger's story has been wrapped up since last season I feel we'll see him again before the end. Maybe one last twist for where he's currently at.

Finally feel like we're coming to a close. Don's smile at the bus stop at the end was a great thing to see.

He finally got to work on Coca-Cola... and represent the hobo from his childhood

Great episode, just everything about this episode was great.
Wait did I miss something when did Don actually do any work for Coca Cola? Like he did have the account but I don't think there was a scene he pitched anything for them.

It really felt like once he got to McCann, he heard dude pitching like he did, looked outside, saw that plane and dipped. Like he'd rather be traveling.

Don on the other hand. I think he just found out he not that golden goose aepps just said..
dude was in there pitching just like vintage Don.

.

Yup, I almost thought they were gonna do some sort of flashback to Don makin pitches cause the dude and how he was presenting sounded just like Don.
I felt that was representing Don's affect on the ad game. That now he's basically looking at a younger dude using his style to not even pitch work but to suggest to creatives how they want their ad done.

Well I thought that at first it was just they didn't like what he did after pretending to be okay with it. He never told them he stole dude's identity I think. Thought they were gonna just reveal they didn't respect his story and beat him up and kick him out.

Ehhhhh I can kinda see where you're coming from, Betty wasn't portrayed to earn anyone's sympathy, BUT if you think about, she was basically programmed by her (supposedly) nutjob mother. If you consider how she was brought up, and probably how much emotional suppression and criticism she put up with throughout her life, it becomes more understandable about how she acted so cold and childish with Don & the kids.

Just my take

Only reason I brought up Coca Cola was that during McCann's pitch, that was a big opportunity that was rumored to be in Don's future at McCann. While trying to escape advertising and McCann, he still ends up being offered to work on something for Coca Cola. Thought it was an interesting thing for the hotel owner to ask Don to work on without being intentional.

what was harry cranes ending?

Proposing to help Megan's acting career for sex?

Basically sending him off as a show biz creep.

He got on the executive floor of McCann he finally made it into the club. He ditched dealing with the whole computer aspect and he mentioned to Roger that he has a team of people dedicated to just running research and statistics for him.

Gonna miss Mad Men. Pete and Trudy together again was well deserved for Pete and finally got what he was after. I also thought Don was getting beat up because he finally told someone the real story of what happened to him in Korea

I don't disagree.

I still feel she deserved it though.

It's really not as clear cut a send off and wrapping up of a story as other examples but then again Harry was never one of the main guys that got a lot of focus. Just the right amount to make his involvement interesting.

Oh okay I see what you're saying. Thought I missed something for a sec.

Would like to see a last roger don interaction.
Still think Pete story will have a twist. He never met with the new company. Everything was told throughout word of that one drunk dude.

truthfully i wouldnt have been mad if the most recent episode was the finale

im hoping there's more screen time between don and his kids (sally especially) in the last episode

yup, I knew when he was telling Trudy all that job talk, when he didnt truly believe it from the drunk guy.

he bout to get left high and dry, and the drunk is gonna swoop in and get a job (not the one pete was suppose to be helpin him get) but pete's job.

At first I was surprised they went and gave Betty cancer... like damn.. but it's also 1970, they've been smokers for 15+ years? Their entire adult lives... SOMEONE has to get cancer cause of it. Giving it to Betty allows her to have her moment of clarity and to be an adult and aware about it all. She's not going to fight it, she's going to keep living her life. They did mention in the past how her own mother's death affected her so much, so it's an appropriate ending that she'll handle her death with grace and acceptance.

One great note from the AV Club is how they position Sally as maturing and becoming an adult throughout this as well. She keeps it from her brothers, and this image is a great shot of her new position in the family..

For Pete, it looks like he gets his happy ending and damnit I'm glad. They often showed how Pete tried to emulate Don and how he wanted to be like him, but he just wasn't cut from the same cloth. So even when Pete "becomes the mayor" and is doing incredibly well, all he really wants his to be happy and safe with his wife and family. Success for Pete isn't going to be measured by what new account he gets or how much money he has, but he just wants the happy home life... and  he'll be taken care of by his new company.

For Don, from 2 episodes ago... I LOVED him looking out his window and hearing the whirling of the air and streets below. Great reference to the opening title credits and the theory that Don kills himself. I don't think it happens literally, but it's the idea that Don Draper would die at the end of the series... "Don Draper" is probably dead. I don't know what happens in the finale, but for all intents and purposes, we can assume the Don Draper we knew is gone. He can't be Don Draper from McCann Erickson! Despite having a shot at Coca-Cola and having all the success in the world, that wasn't going to be the endgame for Don. He would never be happy in this life, so he's off to find the life he wants. Maybe he'll never find it.. but I think he does. Him admitting to killing his CO was a huge step for him... he tried to help the kid and gave him his car too.

I'm ready for the show to end, but it's bittersweet. Just because the show is still of incredibly high quality, and I'm disappointed to no longer see their stories being told. But at some point, the show ends and the stories are over.. but I have no doubts it'll deliver the ending we need and want.

These early eps in this MM marathon :pimp:

The Glen ep that was just on  Got me thinking of the recent Glen appearance.

Don will have to take care of the kids
I didn't think about that. Wow.

He'll probably abandon them given it doesn't look like he's going back to NY and nobody is going to be able to contact him about Betty. If he really spends time traveling the country he might miss her death.

Dude I'm sure the kid's kids Have been taken care off financially. Just hoping it doesn't end like sopranos. Imo slow first episodes but the last ones have been pretty good.

Don doesn't necessarily have to know Betty has cancer, yet. Depends on the time gap between this last ep and the final.

Or maybe Sally tells him, idk.

Finally watched..

Im not and never have been a pete fan, but I am glad they gave him his shine. Plusy anything with Alison Brie I'm mhappy

I have always liked betty, shame it had to be her.
Sally been a little butt hole since like season 3.
the cute innocent girl left way long ago (was watching some season1 marathon I thought she was the cutest sweetest little girl)

good to see doc again.

I didnt think they ended peggy just yet with her walk in but possibly (remember mcann doesn't respect her position really)

I've always been team sally. She grew up and spoke her mind. For her things have always been right or wrong, but she has been getting to the point where she sees the grey area in life or at least that what it seems like.

Season 4 ep 6. When they're showing the day don and sterling met. Joan through the booty at my man sterling for that mink coat
