She got Joan's job cuz Joan moved up. They're not gonna make Dawn a key cast member in the final season. They're not focusing as much with the ppl in the office other than Don and Peggy. Dawn's job has her doing other stuff. When they cover the partners most of it is outside stuffer anyway. The main office plot has been trying to push Don out so Dawn won't be heavily involved with that. I mean Don will still remember her but overall she's just another secretary he didn't smash.

Joan really showed her true colors in that last partners meeting. Getting all excited when she realizes how much cash shes getting, sniping at Don when he tries to speak, getting offended at Ted when hes reluctant to take the deal.
