Congrats to all on passing. I'm completing my MBA in Accounting next year and then getting started on that bad boy right after. I just started a summer internship at Crowe Horwath yesterday in their Tax department. Really excited!

Thanks guys I appreciate your positive posts. To the person asking about how long it took, I work full time so that was a factor in how I approached this exam. I am a full time accountant and I do mainly audit but during tax season I do a lot of tax returns. I work at a small firm so we all have to help each other out pretty much. I took my first test (audit) in May 2013 and I finished my last test in May 2014 (BEC). If I didn't work full time I would have tried to finish sooner but during January - April I am basically blacked out because it would have been foolish for me to try to study and take the exam then because of the amount of hours I work. I used Becker Self-Study and even though it is expensive I didn't fail a part so I have to say the proof is in the pudding. Good luck to anybody that is going take this exam soon, do not underestimate it and put in the work and you will be able to pass too!

I used Becker 2012 and I was able to pass on my first time each section. I studied for 1 month and a half to two months each section roughly.
Try another71.com I lurk there and it was very helpful during my journey!

Pay is $51k starting in audit in the South Florida area at a Big Four
I'm pretty happy. I've only been here seven months, but I like it a lot. I've been learning a lot and it's interesting stuff for me.

I got an offer after doing an internship at Crowe Horwath in NYC. Am in the midst of a career switch into tax. Have been doing financial work in the Healthcare field but it just isn't for me.
I know that it's not big 4 but I really don't want that life after talking to friends who did it and left after their 2-3 years. We'll see where this takes me when I start next fall. I had my choice of going to PWC, but I feel that in tax I'll become a 1 form specialist which won't help me grow if I chose that route.

Accounting major here at The University of Utah. Will be graduating summer 2015. I have some internships lined up around the way so we will see. Big 4 firms look at your accounting grades but some local firms look at other things. Get yourself out there and network etc and you will find where you fit and if accounting really is a good choice for you.

i'd take another big 4 over PwC. They require 3 years of being an associate and passing the CPA to be promoted to senior, while other big 4's require 2 years

About to graduate in a year. Originally aspired to work for one of the Big 4, but I'm now working for a government bureau. Eh at least I get some benefits.

I want to be a CPA. Most states require 150 semester hours to sit for the exam. So this would mean I need to go to school for one more year after I graduate to get to 150 hours. For those who have done it; do FAFSA still give you grants for graduate school? Or do they stop after you get to a certain age?

Depending on your state there may be workaround for that masters requirement. Here in florida my wife was able to sit with some random states CPA exam and once she passes it it has reciprocity with florida. Only catch is that you have to work 5 years under a CPA before you get yours BUT those years are retroactive and she won't be using her CPA any time soon anyways.
Look into it.
She is also doing audit at a bigger audit-only firm in south Fla like the poster a few replies up and is doing really well two years out of college.

School is having a "meet the firms" night for accounting majors in a few weeks. A lot of the accounting firms in Boston are gonna be there, including 2 of the big 4 firms. Anyone got advice on how to make a good impression? Really tryna land an internship.

Dress in a dark suit, but not black. Choose charcoal or navy blue. Maybe bring some resumes just in case someone might ask for it.
This probably won't be an event to hand out resumes but I've had people ask for mine in events like these when they really liked me after the conclusion of it.
And network like crazy. Have stories that will differentiate yourself from everyone else. Keeping a 3.5 is considered easy, now what personal stories or experiences make you different? I was recently helping the firm I signed the offer with with recruiting on my campus. I finally saw just how everyone had the same stories. The only resumes I put into the "1" pile were the ones that met the academic criteria, but also had a personality and something about them. This is an industry where long hours are the norm. Now will I be miserable working with you will I have fun when there is time to go to happy hour or during an airport delay. I was told that if they don't have the GPA, can't speak fluent English, and aren't socialable to just "get rid of them as fast as possible."
Also if its a group networking where you are around a recruiter and there are 5-10 of you. Listen to the questions that those people asked. If you have a relevant and interesting question to build off a previous one that's more impressive than just coming up with something from scratch. It means that you're actually listening and not just out there for yourself.
However, remember everyone else is trying to do the same thing as you. So you still need to have a selfish attitude towards it all because it's your internship on the line and nobody elses.
