I question if the baby is really Kevin's. I think back to when the pastor was unconscious and he fantasized about having sex with Laurie. Maybe that was guilt. In addition, why would Laurie be so snappy when asked whether the kid was Kevin's and why was she so reluctant to tell Kevin when he is a decent father from her point of view?

Yeah like why was she so secretive about the baby? That part didnt make sense. I think she was going to have an abortion which is why the doctor kept calling her in and why she was trying to avoid it, and when the doctor said something like if you want to move along I will have to do something. So I dont think she cares too much about losing the baby as I think she already wanted it gone to begin with.

Did the Garveys have to move to a smaller house because Laurie stopped working

And i kept thinking Kevin was having a long drawn out affair. But instead it was just a spur of the moment smashing.
But was that the first time

Based off of what we know I think Kevin has cheated on Kevin before (See references to his dirty **** by Patti). It wouldn't surprise me if they had to move to the smaller house because Laurie stopped working. Kevin's salary couldn't support a home that size.
Wouldn't surprise me if Kevin has smashed some of the female GR members in the past. Nobody known but when they join I assume like with Laurie they share everything with Patti so she probably ran across a few women he cheated on Laurie with.

. Now I'm beginning to think the departures were caused by man not some unexplainable event (if this show were to ever address that).
I still dont think it's that deep.

Man didnt make an unborn child vanish.

Maybe I missed it but does Kevin to this day pretty much know nothing about the baby and only think the reason his wife left was because of the cheating?
I was thinking and still have been thinking what if the ppl didn't technically vanish? What if they just can't be seen like they're out of phase or something. I know the show won't go in to it at all so I'm not giving it a lot of thought but one scenario I came up with is while in this show 2% of the population disappeared there could be a flip side to it where that 2% that disappeared are experiencing a world where 98% of the population is gone

I'm thinking man made simply cuz those women in the car are obviously eventual GR members given how one approached Kevin about getting ready like he was a member in uniform a few hrs early before it went down.

Might not be man made, could be magic though.

I dont think she cheated imo.

I just think they had a marriage that was hitting a bad place and possibly having another child was bad timing.

I like how they used the the whole getting a dog thing to show where their marriage was and about having a another baby.

I do think she was questioning on keeping the baby, probably why it ended up vanishing...which is funny to me because she could have had the similar fate moving forward whether October 14th happened or not. (probably not as extreme as joining a cult, but still abandoning her family)

Certainly possible

I assumed those folks were GR but why would they be around prior to the actual event? and they themselves werent even wearing white.

I'm stuck between them being some pre-GR cultis nut jobs and them just being some random *** hallucinations from Kevin

As many twist and turns this show may have, I still just think the story is more on the surface then it leads on to be. Patti 's beginning confirms that for me

It being a hallucination struck me but they aint like his other ones but going with my other theory that all these ppl are mentally ill it could just be this is just one big grand shared delusion and there's only a few sane yet damaged ppl caught up in it.

The first thing I asked myself is why they'd even ask him that. This was a couple hrs before the event so that right there makes me think a group of ppl knew this was going to happen but they could all just be crazy ppl

Haven't read the books, so the whole event may be explained at some point, but I don't think we'll ever find out what really happened in terms of why people vanished. I think the spirit of this whole story is to examine how folks react to such an event. What it does to beliefs, morals, motivations etc. etc.

they never explain why the event actually happened or what it was in the book, pretty much its about what people do after and how they carry on

So in the books they never say why all those people vanish!?!? I feel like that's the reason for watching this show or reading the books.

Seriously hope we get an answer before this show gets pulled cuz they better deliver in season 2 or.its a wrap

So did the Garveys even lose anyone in the departure? Was there another kid besides Jill & Tom?

Just watched the episode

That **** delivered!!! :wow:

I see why Laurie went silent.

Man can u imagine smashing and the chick just go ghost in the sheets? I already knew he was bout to get the yambs when he bummed the square.

Feel bad for Nora now for real ... Or did she have it coming for saying what she said to the mayor? :rolleyes F that punk *** husband, he was obviously cuttin some somewhere else

Jill with them braces tho :x & at the same time

So going back and reading everyone else's comments .. What car people y'all talkin bout? I must have dozed off in that scene. I was watching this 3:30am lol

Nvm just rye watched that part I remember it but it didn't even phase me. Lookin back now I don't think they were GR though just some strange *** rough lookin women

Based on the episode it seems that the pastor wasn't nearly as devout pre-departure.

I think her secrecy about the baby is due to the fact their marriage was falling apart at that time. She could have been struggling on whether to keep it or not. I had a feeling she was pregnant, and thought she was getting an abortion. The sonogram looked like that fetus was at least two or three months. That is a long time to keep a secret like that from your spouse, only explanation is the uncertainty in the relationship. They summed up what Kevin is like when talking about the deer, he wants to save people/things. Just like he "saved" her and Tom.

Any woman would be snappy at a question like that, it is very insulting especially if the person is being faithful. Don't forget, she is a therapist and in that community reputation is important. As far as Keving being a good father, her reluctance to tell him is much deeper than just that. Their marriage could have been going through some stuff. Look at how she spazzed because he didn't tell her about Tom's father. They were already on thin ice and that **** just cracked in a matter of minutes. Any other day Kevin wouldn't have slept with that chick, but that day after their little riff all bets were off.

Man made is way to difficult to explain, especially since Laurie's fetus disappeared. The rapture has been ruled out since bad was taken along with the good, and all the children are still around. The only other option would be aliens, or somebody is having a very vivid dream/hallucination . As for those poeople in the car, they look like they escaped from somewhere and Kevin being dressed the way he was probably looked like he belonged to their crew.

Could be, somebody should get a screen shot of them so we can look at their clothing.

Very true, but that is what happens when people are faced with a tragedy. Either they get closer to GOD or they flee.

Please calm down señor
@ Fullcourtpress said "no spoilers" after asking about books. Calming down was a great request , let me make it, for you

Broski , it's not that serious. I too was asking how deep does it go, like in terms of will we be able to get more than two seasons out of it, are we far along in the book at this point, things like that.

Great episode. Everything finally coming full circle for the season. My buddy said word is this is supposed to turn into a several seaon series, like as long as LOST. Pumped for the finale. Something is gonna go down one way or another.

Its weird to me how drastic everyone's personalities changed except Kevin's.

when Kevin was talking to Nora beginning of the season she asks him what were you doing when the event happened and they showed him beating that chick I knew that she disappeared baaaaa hahahahaha, this poor guy no wonder he thinks he is crazy

any theories on what the hell that ball of fire was from under the sewer?

I have to admit that the guy playing Kevin is a pretty good actor, when I found out he was the wizard from Your Highness I was really surprised
