This is a show I feel will have to grow on me. The pacing was expected and the symbolism is cool. Before people start coming up with crackpot theories, watch the extras that discuss the episode.

I'm going to stick around for a lil bit, see what happens. Hard to really judge a show based off one episode.
 
My interpretation.

Deer = People in white, something traumatized them and now they're an elongated 'deer in headlights'

Dogs= What most of the 98 percent are turning into. Savage dogs attacking the 'deer in headlights.'
 
haven't watched the premiere yet, but we watched this the other day... and it is a good primer of the different characters/groups and what is going on.

for those that are confused... maybe it will help.

Were all the girls poolside Asian? That compound leader has a thing for Asian girls i'm guessing. Wondering what he does to have people pay good money to go and see him.
 
I don't know what they were thinking making the start of the show so boring and going nowhere with plot. Like they tried to start up these mysterious interesting character story lines but I got nothing out of it.

I thought Wayne was suspect and I'm not really sure I want to know what service he's providing. The daughter, Deb?, had the whole sex appeal angle cuz she's a teen but she seems dead decide.

The chief just seemed like a sad lost guy in a bad Ron Livingston way. One interesting thing that got me was w/e the hell happened when he passed out and the whole kitchen was ****** up. That had me thinking the show was going somewhere. I do wonder why he aint just arrest that big silent cult guy.

Saw the mom reveal coming a while in. Not particularly interested in those ppl. I just kept wondering why more ppl didn't beat them up like in the park especially when they stared at ppl. Like that can't be how they recruit ppl :lol: Guess the show is going with Liv Tyler being silent rest of the season. Can't say that's a mistake.

Dog thing and the theory from that kid didn't move me much either. Character stuff for the show just wasn't enough for me and while the premise is good, the plot seems to non-existent and just be a character series and there won't be an answer for why all the ppl disappeared.

The whole initial premise of the show did give me ideas though. I might watch the 2nd ep to see if most of the show improves if not I'm done.

Remember when Garvey goes to tell the lady that her dog was shot and she says something like "I thought you were suspended" and he says "That was my grandfather" and then theres a quick flashback to what looks like Garvey running naked through a backyard? I would guess he has some kind of history of black outs or something and he was the one that did that to their house.

Yeah I assumed it was him but I also thought maybe those mute folk went wild or maybe something wild happened with the daughter. That's the one thing the show had me doing as I watched having momentary high expectations when possible plot twists showed up.

The old dude from the flashback wasn't the chief. That was an older man. It probably was his father like he said. The blackouts might be a symptom of something and it may be hereditary.

Now that I think about it seeing as Deb never came home it's probably she let the twins double team her since she aint get to smash her crush and got left choking that weirdo.

This, i dont want to have to "invest 3-4 hours or episodes into a show to see if i like it, just found this boring last night

Sometimes the plot or lack of plot and execution can completely waste a great premise and if it's truly bad you can tell half way in tot he season.

So far the feel I'm getting is this show isn't even about the premise that kicks everything off. It's solely about how ppl deal with the consequences of this event and the not knowing what happened which continues to bother everyone. Cuz from a practical view this is like a show about the Malaysian airplane that disappeared but more so like the plane was found but the ppl were not, just on a global scale.

That's exactly what the creator said it was about on the video extras. Like I said NTers should watch the video extras each week so we don't have to hear outlandish theories.

HBO’s “The Leftovers” premiered to 1.8 million viewers for its initial telecast on Sunday night, according to Nielsen estimates, putting it below the network’s other high-profile dramas over the last few years.

It didn’t necessarily have as strong a lead-in as HBO may have hoped, as “True Blood” drew 3.1 million viewers for its regular-timeslot airing on Sunday, down from a little over 4 million for its season premiere of the previous week.

HBO’s most recent drama premiere, “True Detective” in January, drew 2.33 million viewers for its regular-timeslot telecast. “The Newsroom” 2.14 million in June 2012, and “Game of Thrones” attracted 2.22 million in 2011.

When including a late-Sunday repeat, the two-episode total for “The Leftovers” was 2.1 million.

So not too far off from past HBO premieres. Should gain some steam since majority of people are getting hooked to the intrigue and mystery surrounding the show.
 
They're never gonna address where the people went, so if you're waiting on that, just stop watching now. The "About the Leftovers" 2-3 minute clip pretty much lets know you that this show is just about the post-incident behavior of these characters. Won't be any "grand reveal". This isn't True Detective. And even that didn't have the big elaborate grand reveal many were hoping for.
 
^^^read the book and can pretty much confirm thats true, most of tom perrotta's(the author) work is character driven stuff, so if thats what you are into you are gonna love the show. I havent watched the show yet(will later on tonight) but it seems that they presented some confusing elements.
