There was too much **** in this episode.

didnt eem notice Kevin and Virgil were in Evie's car in the garage

 @ you're dressed as an international assassin. Reminded me of Hitman and the man in the suit from Person Of Interest.

I wonder what's in the water.

 @ Wayne on the toilet.

That comparison about John Wilkes Booth had me thinking. What if he was going through the same thing Kevin was? What if Kevin was back in the real world somehow and the world where he moved to Jarden was all some mass hallucination due to his psychotic break? :wow: :nerd:

That moment Kevin blinks his eyes trying to there's no place like home himself back to the real world then the reality that he may not get out of this so easily setting in :smh:

 @ Neil

In the end, I didn't feel sorry for Patty whether that stuff was true or more hallucination.

It would totally suck to be crazy and going through **** like Kevin is. Seems to me Virgil didn't need to die at all. Somehow Kevin had his dad watching over him to give him the right directions.

I've never seen a show do a drastic change in one season for the better. I liked the first season a bit, that's why I came back for the 2nd, and it's truly been some great TV the past two episodes. The season as a whole has been awesome.
Yeah this basically sums it up well. The majority of us were on the brink of bailing last season but they managed to put together some strong story telling for character arcs near the end and it's not like the show didn't show glimpses of potential that it could be this good. They just kept not wanting to make sense for long bouts

I wonder if that had a lot to do with balancing adapting the book and doing their own thing cuz in S2 they're obviously doing their own thing and are thriving.

When i heard about that 50k i kept trying to remember the significance. But 59 is what Matt needed to buy out the GR and the Bank, not exactly what Patti had to pay because she obviously had more than enough since she won like 61k i think is what she said. I didnt feel bad for her at all but I was glad Kevin put her out of her misery. I cant remeber if it was someone in here or in the show but they asked where the GR fot their funds from

That wasnt Evie's car because Evie doesnt have a car. She hopped in the car with the other girls sooo i just think it was a coincidence that the car was white.

I never understood the connection of making Patti a little girl though while Neil was an adult. Little Patti would reference her dad, and Neil called her a fat pig or whatever. I get the phase of Patti and Neil's abuse just not the connection of her being a little girl. And why did Kevin kill Neil anyway?

So I was reading somewhere that there may be a connection between Kevin's father going to Australia to "start over", and the homeless man in the mini tower in the middle of Miracle wanting to send his letter to someone in Australia. Supposedly back in the day there was this leader of something that said some kinda biblical/supernatural ocurrence happened there.

edit: found it

There’s the comment Kevin’s father, fresh out of the mental institution and suddenly “cured,” makes after announcing his plans to go to Australia (again with the Australia references!): “I can cry about how the world ended. Or I can start it up again.” (This notion of starting it up again — coupled with the letter that Miracle’s homeless guy sent to a David Burton in Sydney in the premiere — suggests there may be a new religious movement of some kind forming Down Under. As I noted in last week's recap, H. David Burton is the name of an actual former Mormon Church leader who once did missionary work in Australia. It’s also worth mentioning that Mormonism was first born in western New York, perhaps not far from the fictional “Leftovers” version of Mapleton. )

I thought Kevin was gonna punk out. He couldnt get the gun and then Patti started dishing out some knowledge to him about the departures and reality of it.

I read somewhere that the hotel lady that pointed Kevin to the concierge where Virgil was, the lady was Erika's grandmother she was fascinated with the bird flying around ... BUT ... a few episodes back when Erika visited Virgil and told her to leave Michael alone, Virgil asked Erika if she wanted another bird :wow:

Gonna rewatch this episode tonight after MNF

Stand corrected. Her friend's car*

Went back and it's the same car I think. Both cars are a white Benz

I mean could be a coincedence still but

The whole reason Patty made herself a little girl was to make it harder for Kevin to kill her and win. Virgil told him in this world she'll try to confuse him and things aren't linear.

She set up the double, probably told the double what to say. Then the whole stuff with her as a little girl was just extremely sad and somebody else probably wouldn't go through with it. Word to all those other ppl that hung themselves over the bridge instead of going through with it.

I assume Kevin killed Neil for Patty cuz he did feel sad for her. Once he found out the connection with Neil due to what the double told him earlier and figuring out the little girl was Patty he felt sad for her.

I wouldn't try to make too many connections with things said and certain ppl that had a line or two. Dude on the bridge is probably just that. Same for the desk clerk at the hotel. Same with w/e amount of money Patty wanted to leave Neil.

I understand all that about her trying to deceive him. Im simply talkin about her saying my dad says i talk too much etc but the "dad" was her adult self's husband. The one he shot wasnt a dpuble it was her. Idk why it would be a double if they are giving us a little girl Patti to kill AND a broken down Patti to kill.

Yeah im not putting much into the clerk n all the extras it was just lil coincidences in character portrayal really. But yeah those lil parts are irrelevant b/c we'll prob never see them again.

Only other character at the hotel that i think is significant is Mary standing and accepting the balloons

I thought she was just talking about her actual father when she said that despite the fact that Neil says the same stuff or she was still trying to trick Kevin making him think the relationship was father and daughter and not husband and wife.

Neil obviously refuted it. I bet he saw Patty in her adult form since he was well aware he was dead and stuck in some sort of purgatory.

The one he shot wasnt a dpuble it was her. Idk why it would be a double if they are giving us a little girl Patti to kill AND a broken down Patti to kill.
This is how I took it as far as rules go. Virgil said once he kills Patty it would be over and he'd come back.

He shot her in the room and he did not go back. I took that as while that's obviously Patty what she said was partially true and Kevin did not succeed in actually killing Patty so he could move on. It was a double in the sense that it was a Patty Kevin killed but not the one he was there for. That was all part of Patty trying to trick him. He could've killed the double and never figured out the little girl was Patty and be stuck in purgatory cuz he didn't do what he was suppose to.

Then he realizes the little girl is Patty in child form. He does what his dad says and takes her to the well. Then he hops in there and does what Virgil told him to do and drown Patty in shallow water. Right after like Virgil said he goes back to the land of the living. That's when he really killed Patty.

so what happens if you die in "purgatory" (gladys, wayne)?

and patti running for president means she was doing that ever since she killed herself, while also living in kevin's mind?
nerd.gif

and was that hotel the purgatory for everyone in existence? or only people kevin may have known or seen b4?

and who were the two spanish ladies? one of them had a cooler for organs presumably? guardian angels?

and virgils atonement ended when he drank the water?

Master Zik Master Zik gotcha ok i think we are the same level just maybe expressing it diff i had a hard time trying word it myself

If you die in purgatory .. then i guess that it there are no choices. Isnt it said you can be there forever? Thats where Virgil will live.

Wayne n Kevin meeting in a bathroom again

I had assumed that Patti was running for president solely because of the outfit that Kevin picked (international assassin). His goal was to kill her, and as an assassin, it would likely be a high profile assassination that would resonate with that job choice. If he had put on the cop or priest outfit, I think that Patti would have had a different occupation and would've required a different method for killing her. Furthermore, I believe that the hotel was a personalized purgatory for Kevin and reflected people and situations relevant to only him.

^ thats interesting

if he had picked say the cop uni, would virgil still have been the concierge?

surprising that he didnt pick the cop uni too

the suit didnt automatically resonate to international assassin to me, so why did he pick that?

and could the clergy outfit be for matt?

What an incredible episode...

Noticed during the credits that it was written by Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse, who I assume is related to Carlton Cuse (the other Lost guy). The whole purgatory thing was certainly similar to the last season of Lost.

I guess the only real question is why the difference between Virgil and Garvey Sr.'s instructions. And what the dude on the bridge said to Kevin. But it was a pretty self-contained episode.

As for Mary, it makes sense cause she's supposed to be braindead right? At that point in the episode, I think it's just supposed to allude us to the fact that Kevin's in purgatory or the afterlife. I don't think it really hints as to whether she'll have the baby or die during birth or anything.

Maybe the cop being led away in cuffs with a bag over his head would've been Kevin if he chose the Mapleton PD outfit?

I think it may have been a bigger purgatory and not just personalized for Kevin cuz when he got on the elevator there was a guy in the priest outfit shook as all hell.

I think he was going through the same thing Kevin was

Whoever is doing the Music this season, is MF killing it.

House of Cards will without a doubt lose that Emmy this year.

I was pretty surprised we got to see purgatory/afterlife and what went down. That's a pretty big "answer" for this show. I almost expected them not to show anything, just have Kevin wake up and say what happened and it would've been up to us if we believed him

Damon Lindelof:

There are also those who will assign a supernatural interpretation to this episode. “Goddammit, here goes Lindelof with the Purgatory nonsense again… WE GET IT, *******!”

It is not our place to explain ourselves nor clarify this debate. The show has to speak for itself on this front. I make no apologies for this as Tom, the writers and I have always been upfront about the storytelling on this show being purposefully ambiguous… The Leftovers isn’t about answers, it’s about the frustration of not getting them and the emotional state that drives our characters to. Like throwing rocks through the windows of people we feel sympathy for or drinking poison.

This dude Lindelof has finally found the perfect format for him to do his bull ****.

It backfired so bad on him with LOST and now he's found gold with the Leftovers  Making the show about not getting answers and that frustrations instead of the empty promises and lies he was telling about everything will be answered about LOST in the final season

Dude has an already prepared response to ppl ******** on him.

 So true on Damon... I think dude was legit depressed after LOST ended, he seems like a dude who really cares about the perception of his work, and with how bad the final few seasons were taken, I think he really took it to heart. He's doing great with this though man, first season was a bit too much but like someone else (might of been you) that they were trying to find a balance between the book and what they wanted. With no restrictions in that sense and free wiggle room, I think he's killing it in every aspect this season.

For a Lindeloff show to become unmissable for me in 2015 is pretty crazy.

I just read that none of the episodes this season have broken a million viewers... Hope to see season 3 but I'm not holding my breath
