The one tonight or last week? Last week's episode was the best. It touched on a lot of stuff I wanted to know. Tonight, not so much. The bodies on the road part was dope, but everything kept going back and forth back and forth I don't like that part of the series.
This week.. Last week was good but the priest took so many L's got me wanting to stop watching. laugh.gif

I am torn thus far, it pains me that the GR gets so much screen time because it's almost impossible to grasp what they are feeling. Like I caught myself wanting the wife to get offed so I wouldn't have to watch her constipated face everytime she is on screen.

It's kind of a bad sign that this show has to give previews of what's to come in the weeks ahead after every episode as opposed to just what's coming in the next episode. Seems like there's not enough great moments in each episode to carry them individually. As it stands I feel like they are 1 for 4, with episode 3 being the only really good ep so far. I haven't really enjoyed the others. If I don't like episode 5 I think I'm going to bail.

The themes presented are valid and interesting, I just don't feel like the commentary is that intelligent. I do believe this could improve as the show develops though. I'm giving it the ultimate chance.

Too bad there isn't that one bombshell that you just can't wait til the show focuses on her. How can the entire cast not be attractive?

What I don't understand is what does everyone mean by "I want to figure out what the **** is going on"? I don't get what kindof big reveal everyone keeps expecting.

I didn't read the book so I could be completely off, but...

Like... what if there's nothing going on to figure out, sort of like the Guilty Remnant keep saying?

According to critics Episode 5 is supposed to be the 2nd best one to date (with the priest episode being the best so far.)

Eh, not really expecting "a big reveal" more so just want the characters to unwrap so I can figure out why they're all doing what they do. The dogs thing, Wayne's origins etc. etc. are the things that I'm still trying to figure out.

The show needs a big reveal of how everything ties together with the way that it's set up and told. Otherwise it's just an exercise in patience.
It's not even cause the show is slow. True Detective was slow (and damn good) and let the viewers have a general idea of what was going on despite being a mystery. This show only has random @#$@ happening with zero explanation so far
post #282 of 1554
Exactly; they make us sit through these barely connected scenes with barely any context... the only way it really can pay off is to fit together in some type of big reveal or collision course at the end. Otherwise the show just made you sit through characters you didn't care about and stories you didn't understand for no reason.

I still don't understand why Liv Tyler's character joined the Guilty Remnant (or what the point of the Guilty Remnant is for that matter-do they just exist to tell people that their families aren't coming back?). I'm usually good at catching important details in TV shows so I doubt I missed it

Is the cop just driving that dudes truck around still? laugh.gif. Who does he think he is, Kenny powers?

I'm trying with this show but something needs to tie something together by the seasons end. I'll give it the rest of the season. Pumped to see boardwalk previews tho. smokin.gif

TV Ratings: 'The Leftovers' Audience Climbing to 8 Million Viewers

11:03 AM PDT 7/22/2014 by Michael O'Connell

The freshman HBO drama is scoring substantial growth across platforms, as lead-in "True Blood" continues to drive Sundays on the pay cable network.

Good news for The Leftovers: Four weeks into its first season, the HBO drama is finding a stable audience — and quite a bit of growth across platforms.

Sunday's outing for the drama fetched 1.6 million viewers, its most-watched original telecast since the June 29 premiere. Though that number is certainly modest compared to many HBO dramas, including lead-in True Blood, it's not even a quarter of how many viewers The Leftovers is finding over the course of a week.

The first two episodes of The Leftovers are currently averaging more than 8 million viewers across all telecasts, HBO Go plays and video-on-demand. That's not far off from the gross viewership the most recent drama launch, True Detective, was averaging at the end of its run (11 million viewers).

How The 8M Viewers Was Attained:
Quote:
This makes today's across-platform ratings news more pertinent than ever. Eight million viewers seem significant enough to earn a second season pickup, and the numbers also speak to a point raised earlier this week by FX at one of its TCA panels. In an effort to more accurately convey the total viewership attached to a program, FX stated it will wait until Live+3 data comes in before issuing ratings releases for its shows. Despite (pretty solid) initial numbers for the premiere of "The Strain," FX didn't report ratings until three days after it usually would -- Nielsen ratings came in for Sunday's premiere on Tuesday, but FX waited for the Live+3 figures on Friday.

Doing so worked. "The Strain" jumped from 2.43 million viewers from its first night to 4.73 million with Live+3 factored in
, a massive increase and a savvy move towards building better press for its show -- after all, many outlets won't report on ratings twice, instead choosing to go with the first numbers they're given.

I don't know why, but when the cop's wife was reaching for that lighter I kept thinking the cop was going to run her over since he kept staring at baby Jesus in the car and not paying attention to the road.

One minute she was punching them in her driveway, the next she was showing up on their doorstep. They've made it seem like she had something on her mind but didn't really detail it, from what I remember.

That would've been like a scene in a comedy movie like Dumb & Dumber.

For me, its entertaining for now.  I would really be able to tell you if it is worth watching, once the season ends.  But, if you are looking for something to fill some free time here and there, give it a shot its not horrible.

Pretty much. I watch it to kill an hour when I'm bored on Sunday night/Monday

at this point the show is so different from the book, i'm having trouble keeping up. timeline wise, the wife does not come home with meg(liv tyler) till nearly halfway through
same thing with the dance happening. by the end of season 1 i believe atleast with that storyline i'll be in new territory. along with the son and the asian chick, because that one is escalating pretty quickly too.

it's interesting how things are getting switched around for the sake of television, but i get it.
