Did you purchase anytihng online today? Might wanna hold up

They don't want to start a scare.  They know the majority of the populace are sheep.  Better to not scare the herd and fix the problem quietly.

Will we get a notice from banks and websites as to when this is patched and i can start changing my passwords?

Is there a way we can check and see which sites are patched?

man, just bought some shoes online yesterday.

Remember, we're all protected up to 250k from our banks.

Hope it works the same way with credit cards.

You're protected any time you use your CC against fraudulent charges...CC companies (NOT banks) are pretty good against fraud charges these days. As long as you report it early, I've actually never heard of anyone not getting their money back.

This problem will probably never completely disappear...people just don't maintain their servers well enough. This probably won't break as major news because most people don't understand what's happening behind all the 1s and 0s, though I'm sure news networks are waiting to publish anything right away.

You want your bank to tell you when they've patched Heartbleed?

I suppose you'd also like for them to update those ATMs that are running XP, and for them to rewrite their banking software written in COBOL as well, huh?

Banks are NOTORIOUS for not updating and upgrading. I would bet good money that you'll only get notifications from Dropbox, email provider, and maybe a few retailers like Amazon (which is still vulnerable, to my knowledge)...that is, if you even get notified. Companies DO NOT want to announce this vulnerability to their customers.

Scared.... I am

got an email today from my university. apparently their servers have been compromised. don't know what that means, or if it's even related. the email asked me not to change any passwords or use my credit/debit card on their .edu domain until they get their "issue" resolved. Also received a phishing email today through my school email, and this is the 1st time that's ever happened. weird.

So basically its the same amount of risk weve been taking purchasing stuff online?

Nope. Literally a thousand times worse.

If you're using an unpatched site, any data you transfer (from logging in to sending messages) can be seen by ANYONE on the web.

But if they can get info from the past, if you do it today or you did it 3 years ago, you can still get got.

Seems like a lot of main stream websites are already patched.

my 3 bank sources are all patched

Hopefully this doesn't get any worse

I would post this one, but I really don't want to paste a 10k list. You can check it for yourselves.

Good to see NT has been patched. I checked a couple days ago, and they were reporting back as vulnerable, but they seem good now.

You guys should just change your passwords to everything that you can remember you have accounts for.

Try to incorporate various characters in them as well (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and "!@#$%^&*()-+") or ones that the sites allow you to use.
