Bought like 3 of my favorite retros and I'm not gonna wear em till the future to wear out my other J's that are still new.

But how long can a shoe be dead stocked and be in wearable condition.
Like no yellowing and sole glue drying

I have shoes that are 10 years old never even been tried on. Scared to touch em now! But they sure look nice!

That's ******* ******ed. That's like me just staring at my money and doing nothin with it. I'm not saying beat them to the ground but wear them no point of just staring at them

Might as well just try and wear em and find out.

It's different for every shoe though and how old/how they've been stored.

Do not ziplock or seal your js away from air

Stay away from silica gel packs

Try to store them in a cool non humid place

Key to keeping your js wearable later

Agreed AND :

- store them in a dark place

Also for non DS shoes:

- don't put them back in the box just after wearing them, let them breathe for half a day to avoid moisture

Do you understand the concept of saving money?

That was the worst analogy ever.

You can't compare hoarding shoes to saving money.

That's not what I ment not saving money but that's like me putting money on a shelf and not doing anything with it why wouldn't you wear your shoes that's so pointless

Haha I think I'm going to stop purchasing more jays.

Just bought another and I'm a lot of pairs till I wear the newer ones.

I'm kinda paranoid cause of all the horror stories about wearing old jays

It completely depends on the shoe, how it was manufactured, what materials were used and how they were stored.

Shoes DEFINITELY used to be better quality though. Man the leather, materials used... it's a whole another world.

This is a pair of Nike Air Winged Flights that I have that are DS (I have a pair in white too). They are by far the oldest shoes I own in new condition. I can't see anything wrong with them except the insole around the heel area has lifted slightly. They appear to be 100% wearable.

Pictures for those curious. It's a rare sight indeed.

I paid I think $15-20 for each pair on Ebay about 7 years ago. The price was ridiculous but the sentimental value for me is priceless.

Crap, this is the Jordan Forum. I'll delete the post if necessary. Sorry!

I also have a bunch of DS kicks I haven't chosen to wear. My reasoning for hoarding sneakers is because I fear that if I put them on and by happen chance, scuff them. If that scuff is one of those irremovable scuffs, I would be so ticked.
I have a question. I have the playoff and aqua retro 8's from 2007/2008. Should these be wearable? I'm thinking of UN DS'ing my Playoffs.

Oh yeah for sure. That's not that old at all. Just do a careful inspection and make sure that structural components seem ok.

The upper of the 8s is no problem for sure... just inspect the midsole a bit.

I really think they'd be fine though. Everyone rags on the quality of Jays but shoes are still shoes. A few years won't destroy your shoes.

I would only really worry about age if the shoes were made in the early 00s or older.

so many factors to this, foam midsoles are prone to breakdown after 6-8 years, but more importantly is how the shoes are stored. Warm conditions can damage shoes as the glue can get soft and cause sole separation. Also moisture can damage uppers (suede/leathers) so a lot depends on how the shoes are stored.

Also depends how you wear your shoes, if you intend to play sports in them its gonna have more strain on them and that will be a factor if the materials have weakened. For something like jordan 1s a 10 yr old DS pair to rock casually kept in the right conditions is totally fine 15-20 yrs then they might start to break down but some shoes with the foam midsoles would have far less durability, they might look DS out of the box but if they are 15+ yrs old the first wear could show cracks and cavity's forming.

The oldest pair I kept ds were 06 black tongue 5s... last year when I went to get raffle tickets for the new retro I decided to unds my 06... when I got home I noticed the mid on both shoes craked. I decided then that im wearing everything!!! Whats the point in waiting so long to rock them if they're gonna be ruined more if u wait? Jb releases everything again anyways...enjoy them while u can!!

Ya, I definately recommend that unless you are a strictly no wear type of collector, wearing Jays... esp OG colourways is the way to go.

You'll see them re-release again in a few years and you can keep buying new pairs. Keeping OG colourways on ice when you don't care about the production date is just a bad idea. You didn't get to wear em when they were fresh (and they may now be deteriorating) and you'll most likely see them release again in the very near future.

I hate yellowing of the icy soles. I try not to see that before I can get em on my feet.

Haha my room is pretty dry and warm place but if I close the blinds it stays pretty cool. Maybe I should just start wearing my shoes.

Oldest pairs I own

94 Steel X's- Still Wearable
Nike Air Hawk Flight (97)- Still Wearable
Reebok Kamikaze 1 (94-95)- Still Wearable
Reebok Kamikaze 2 (95-96)- Still Wearable

Own a few more but as stated, it depends on the material and the condition youve stored them in.
