Older Niker Talkers 30+

All I know is even when I stop buying shoes, I'll at least have the satisfaction in never having to buy sneakers again for the rest of my life. I literally have a life time supply to last me till the day that I die. Sort of a cool feeling I guess, and they'll all be some rare shoes.
This

I don't wear the shoes that I have stored well over 10 years. When Nike started the retros, I would cop 2-3 pairs so I had multiples, and my rotation was so high than I just never got around to wearing some pairs. At this point, I just don't see the point in wearing them after all these years. I sold a good portion of my collection that were dead stock and bought some stocks/mutual funds. Getting dividends at the end of the year feels a whole lot better than seeing all these damn shoes boxes wasting my closet space.

Jagged Edge and Dru Hill

Waiting for garage sale pt 2!

That's whats up. Cameo and the Dramatics on the undercard...wooo.
I'm old enough to have gone to four DMX concerts....DMX has shown up zero times

Darkman X gotta learn from Zev Love X. Doom got that concert no-show, still cash a check, troll game on lock.

I'm still trying to figure out if you collect, do you not wear them? This term has been used too loosely. I'm not a collector. I might have kicks on ice for a while, but they're all getting worm. I never understood buying to just keep on display, but maybe I'm understanding it wrong.

So when people see me wearing my heat and sometimes non-heat, I do say that I am collector (with a Ph.D. in Kicksology :D ) , but I ain't that dude that have them on display and go in the basement from time to time looking at them like I got the Hope Diamond.

Now with the way things are today, these kids wear their kicks out of the store as soon as they get them and I've always stuck to my rule: If a sneaker was released on a Saturday, they weren't going to be worn until that Monday of school. In addition to that, now everybody deems themselves a "Sneakerhead", so that means everyone is wearing the same thing LOL. So when the AS, BHM, Easter, and Christmas colorways release, I normally ice them for a few months to a year, so that the hype dies down and I'll break them out when I'm ready to. Due to my rotation, I generally wait at least a month to wear my new releases.

Long story short:

In my own definition.

Collector - Someone who wears what they like and has a different array of shoes. They may favor a specific brand over another, but appreciates the artwork of different brands (e.g., I'm pro-Nike, but I think the Shaqnosis is one of the most beautiful works of art when it comes to kicks). They wear their shoes (eventually) to showcase their arsenal and depth of taste. Selling is never an option, UNLESS they have worn their kicks to their hearts content and are ready to pass them on to the next person in order to make room for adding more kicks to their line up OR just strapped for cash, but selling never enters the thought process when making the initial purchase. They are also semi-knowledgeable of the technology, history, and meaning behind the kicks in their arsenal (e.g., I bet half, if not all the kids don't know the history of controversy behind the Air Bakins that were recently released and what was done to correct it).

I could write for days what I think a collector is, but that's my definition. It's levels to collecting, not just owning a few pairs of exclusives. Just my $.02.

I can't even pretend that I'll wear all my sneakers any more. I work an office job. Even with casual Friday, how often do I get to wear sneakers? I probably have 600 pairs, which includes doubles, triples, etc. Wearing everything is just not going to happen. Still, it's very difficult for me to part anything.

The term "collector" as commonly used is basically indistinguishable from "sneakerhead." I have personal opinions on the nuanced semantics of all these words, but in common usage they all just mean "person who buys a lot of sneakers."

Knowing the history of the items and the associated culture are very important to me though. I don't see how you can have true passion without it. I always said that sneakers are the nexus of sports and hip hop - two extremely influential cultural spheres of my life. I mean, people can do whatever they want with their money, they can buy 3K "PEs" that are produced by the hundred. They can wear their kicks. They can shrink wrap them and just stare at them. They can keep them forever. They can resell them. "Sneakerhead," "collector," "resller," those are all just labels - if you have true knowledge and appreciation of the shoes and associated culture, then I'm cool with you, regardless of how you practice your hobby. But, if you're just out for e-props, I don't care what your collection looks like - you're just an insecure poser.

CHUUCH.

I never understood the multiple thing for people who have a lot of kicks.

I don't wear out or dirty up kicks to need to do that.

31 years old, 2 kids, 1 wife, one mortgage.

I buy what i like when I can. No sneaker I think I have to have anymore. After I got my grails a few years back (04 Air Max 95, last year they made the neons with the decent air bubble, impossible to find in my size) I've been pretty much good to go. I sold a bunch of shoes a while ago, and honestly, the majority of my shoes are in a 50 gallon tote in my attic. Wear my old man merill's and new balance 99_ 90% of the time, even though my office is pretty casual and Ican wear sneakers if I wanted to.

But if someone knows where I could score a pair of size 14 hunter sb's though.....

Im about to be 30 on 4/20 :smokin

Damn i feel old. I remember WWF War Zone changed the face of wrestling video games forever, the days where a new Street Fighter game would release every single year, browsing the magazine isle and seeing Gamepro, Gamefan, etc, and certain shoes being released several times in a 7 year span :x What's crazy is that i've now been on this site for 10 years. I remember signing up for it right after the White/Green IVs came out to see what everyone else thought of them. I signed up for Uptempo Air later that year

29 here

Been here since 01 (not my og sn), the XV1s were poppin back then

I still have my OG Jordans with some runners and Nike/Reebok retros, but I've sold 75% of my collection a few years ago. I regret it to this day. :smh:

I'll get a few kicks if/when the prices are good. I refuse to pay retail :smh: :x

Mortgage and cars paid off so now I can jump back into da kicks :pimp:

40. 3 Kids and a wife. Still living that Jordan life.

Started collecting in 1996 when the XI's came out. I decided than I wanted every single pair of J's that ever comes out. Years later after about 600 pairs I finally realized that it is not possible. But I still look here almost daily for info just like I did back at NikePark.

DJKona cameo. Nice.

late to the party here --> 30, turning 31 this year.

been on NT since I went to college at UC Davis from 2001-2006 (stayed one extra quarter for sitting one out).

i've always appreciated the Jordan and Nike Retro forums because that's what I used to mess with before even knowing about the General!

i am 31 now, turning 32 this year

i've been into sneakers since 1991

and started the collecting game in 2002

came on NikeTalk in 2005 and lurked till 2007

currently using my 3rd account here on NT

This has been going on forever though. I've put on new pairs at the store and left the old ones behind (a lot of times not so old) in the early 90's. :smh:

If I only knew then...

Pretty much. If anything, it's more like the reverse. Kids don't UN-ds stuff until much later and in some cases not at all.

my rule of thumb has never changed since 95 in 8th grade haha.

never buy shoes i dont plan to wear. so those wild color ways but have super limited tag and hyped up, i can pass easily and not feel bad

been also trying to be better about not buying the SAME SHOE in just diff color way. seems like a waste to me, unless its an absolute must colorway lol Nike seems to try and get the younger folks to NEVER think like this buy deeming almost every single colorway LIMITED lol

as far as reselling, most of us in our 30s should at least have a stable job of some sort. many prob with a serious relationship/a wife even kids. hard to commit to do the work to get those hot releases locked in to make a few bucks. dont get me wrong ill always have my eyes peeled, but never go out of the way, if i see a steal at an outlet i know i can make a few bucks on why not. im already there, not wasting any time

having to pay reseller prices suck. ive never had to do it, guess cause its been easier to pass up if you miss something, just move on to the next or wait until you find one at retail.

only thing being in this age, if we're all in our 30s.. this nike ish was OUR thing since back in the day. some of us can even say since day 1, if our parents hooked us up since we were kids. all this required effort to get kicks when back in the day it was just a walk to the mall, thats whats frustrating.

oh well.. just gotta adapt or just step away.

31 turning 32 in january. SMH. MAN time has flown...found out about this website in highschool.

I mainly got addicted to shoes when SBs starting coming out. I made a killing selling the bison high sb wheats from mainland in p hill when they first opened. Lined up at sample sales in walnut creek and camped at huf or any sb store before releases

It's crazy how the shoe game as evolved, So many more people, hype, and competition on shoes just make it harder to cop.

Thankful i make enough to support buying shoes on ebay or craigslist. When you have a stable income its just not worth camping for something anymore if you calculate the man hours you will waste waiting and risk of getting sick outside. Definitely don't have time for lines and rsvps and working graves in the hospital doesnt help for 5 am releases either.

I turn 30 tomorrow, but dont think I'm cool enough to make a HBD thread.
Welcome to the Dirty 30 my dude!

30th Birthday was last week Aug 24, the day of my party I went into the mall to get an outfit, went into journeys and copped some nice looking adidas lol.
I don't care whats on my feet long as it looks good to me.

Be 31 in a couple weeks, been here since I was 18. I worked in an outlet in college and this site definitely helped me figure out the rare finds that would hit my store plus employee store pricing on Jordan's for 5 years, I never paid more then 90 for a new release and never had to worry about going to a store to buy them. I remember getting to NT chi at midnight and sitting all night for Espos and Pharrells and I was one of the first people in line. Now days I'd have to get there 5 days early and still wouldn't get my size.

I stick to dress shoes or the occasional am1/90 now days. Live through my 3 year old on retros since they are easy to get, rather buy him the new releases then buy myself a pair that will sit on a shelf next to rest of my older js that are rarely worn...3's and 11's are the occasional exception. 150 into kids college fund or on shoes...pretty easy decision for me. But love general for staying up on the trends and keeping in touch with the younger generation. My employees love that I know half of the random stuff they talk about.
