yea like I was saying earlier the preppy dress shirt oxford shirt etc look shorts should be a little shorter... or the tucked polo etc boat shoes etc... look or plain front/pleated shorts...
things like utility shorts multi pocket cargos etc...and tees and what not shorts at knees or slight below is a better look

My shorts have to range from covering the kneecap (sitting down) to mid shin for me. The only shorts I will wear that are above the knee are swimming trunks.
