Anyone here been to Paris? My flight leaves tonight. What are things that i MUST see/do? How hard is it to travel using their metro system? Do i need to walk around with my passport out there or my will my NY ID be fine? Should i travel with cash on me or should i trust the safe in the hotel? Any tips/suggestions will be great. THANKS

I've been to paris when i was younger. Easy to travel in their metro system. I speak french though so it helps if ever you need indication (most speak english, they just suck at it).

I was 15, so the must see is different if you are older, but the classic Eiffel tower, Louvre museum, cathdrale of Notre-Dame, The Arc de Triomphe, Montmarte walk is a good way to start. You can go with your preference after.

Went to Paris in 08, they get freaky at night over there, we seen a lot of weird stuff so don't be surprised

Like already mentioned the Eiffel, Louvre, Red Light District

The Mona Lisa wasn't all cracked up to be, cant even get close to it

I don't think carrying your passport is necessary, that's your call

The metro system is confusing, carry a map with you or download on your phone

Yeah nowadays they have the Metro on an app to download
Don't carry around a paper map.
You won't necessarily need your passport just for going around town.
If its a large-type hotel, I'd trust the safe in the room.

Chill at a cafe or in the park by the Louvre
Grab a sandwich in ANY street bakery/deli

Rent a moped or a bicycle
Meet a French girl
Take a bullet train to London or Amsterdam

i was thinking about taking a bullet train to Amsterdam.

do you know if its better to get the ticket once i am in Paris or try to get it online before i go?

My own personal experience, I bought the train tickets ahead of time
Eurail.com maybe?

So you at least have a reservation number.

I remember being in Amsterdam and deciding on an impromptu trip to meet up with some friends in Germany...
I hadn't checked the departure times prior so the train I wanted was sold out and had to wait +8 hours for the next train. Basically had to camp out on the curb outside the train station and wait for morning departures. NOT the best situation obviously.

Heck, there's also the cheap airlines between major cities. I haven't utilized those... I hear they're roughly $100+ (kind of like flying JetBlue or SouthWest)

RyanAir I believe is one.... BUT I hear the quality is you get-what-you-pay-for.

Personally I liked the trains because you start and stop in the middle of the major cities and don't have to worry about taxis to and from the airports ~ which are typically 20-30 minutes outside the city.

Duh

Expedia.com can be used to check flights between cities.

$300+ roundtrip isn't bad at all! Just keep in mind the taxi or tram costs.
I wonder if there's a tram from AMS airport to the center of town.

For sure there's a tram/train from CDG to Paris. I hope you have a way of getting from the airport to the city already planned out.

Never been to Paris although I would like to go there but have fun and I hope you took a DSLR or some sort of camera with you to document the sights!!!

You MUST do the night time bike tour by Fat Tire Tour company.

You ride through the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, all the districts, get some bomb ice cream, etc. And then you take a boat tour to finish it off.

Probably the highlight of my trip.

Took a cheap flight to Barcelona too, which was awesome.

Bars/nightspots where college age girls are at?

Planning on taking Wifey here next year. Toss up between Paris, Tokyo or Bahamas
I thought Bahamas sucked/overrated

I don't know, never been there. Just came back from Hawaii last week and already planning out next trip.

If it is overrated or not worth, then i'd happily scratch it off my list.

Tokyo>Life itself

Yeah? How so?

My girl said to add Puerto Rico to the list.

You're american they'll love you there, don't even try to speak french they'll love it.

Yah..people arent that helpful. But they also arent as rude as i expected.

The metro system is easy to get around, you just gotta figure out the general system and you'll be fine. I went a yr ago and I dont speak a lick of french lol

90% of the people smoke and drink coffee 24/7. 2nd hand smoke doesnt exist over there. ENJOY!

Easy to navigate if you have a look beforehand where you go…Its difficult otherwise because the streets are numbered and are in names instead. But the train system is real easy.
Food is expensive so make sure you got that covered.

No idea how long you're gunna be there, or if u wanna travel
But last summer I went to 12 European countries
Bought an unlkmited pass for the trains, and my trip would've been **** without that
