Wow i've been slacking entirely too hard this year.

Good looking man, seriously.

Its my understanding the irs has all the tax information that should've been sent to you and you can contact them and they can give it to you. I know this is the case for federal tax anyway, I've never had to pay state tax so im not sure if this applies. Is there a website or number for California's state tax department you can contact?

theres a website ftb.ca.gov where i can go and pay but its not working. ima go to the tax office where i filed or call them tomorrow and see wahts going on.

Is it true you can go into an IRS regional office(not sure if that's what they're called) and they will do your taxes for free?

is this your first year "filing"?
if so, the system will not recognize you at this point. your options would be to "pay without registering" or to pay offline (mail) or to call 1-800-852-5711 to discuss the "information that doesn't match".

No biggie, but will just take a bit more work on your part.

if you're seriously considering doing this, then i want to tell you that the amount of time that you would spending filling out your federal forms online would actually be less than the amount of time that you would spend driving, parking, waiting in line, talking, and going home.

you can complete your own taxes online in less than 15 minutes. seriously. save your time/money and do it yourself.

i think you guys really want to phrase your question like this... "can i get someone at the government office to do it for me for free and it will be okay?"
The answer to that is difficult because it's not really the right question.

Ask it this way instead, "will a government office look over my form and tell me if i have correctly filled the form out" - the answer is yes.

"will a government office be able to tell me if the information i used to fill out my form is correct"; that answer is no. irs/tax employees don't know whether or not the information you're putting on your form is correct or not until they see the fully completed form and have it to compare to their records.

try asking this question; "will a government office help me if i get stuck on a particular line/question?". the answer is yes.

"will a government employee tell me what to put down on the next line?" the answer is no. they will not do it for you. they are not allowed to take responsibility for what is on your forms. (that's generally what h&r block charges for... they will take that responsibility... no comment on their actual performance though. )

i encourage you to do your best, learn a bit about personal income taxes, and how they affect your personal finances, and see if you can save some money by completing your taxes on your own. there are many free options online (which process faster/result in faster refunds when transmitted electronically.)

best of luck to you.

I meant the question exactly the way I typed it. I heard you can literally go to them with all your info and they will do it for you; for free. The other questions posted would be asking something different.

I wasn't planning on having them do it, I've always done it myself.

there's a program called "volunteer income tax assistance", VITA. a volunteer may "do your taxes for you" if you provide all of the necessary documentation. VITA sites may also be located in/near government offices. they occasionally deny individuals if they are too busy, or if the individual does not meet income/family/life situational requirements.

here is the vita link which is closer to what you're asking: http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Free-Tax-Return-Preparation-for-You-by-Volunteers

Pay taxes? Wait why? I got my state and federal taxes back. What do I do now?

You've never filed a tax return? Have you ever worked?

I was wondering if anyone ever accidentally endorsed signatured their own money order and then sent it out? Reason I'm asking is, I was being ******ed today and rushed my mail and sent out money order for the tax payment and realized when I got home that I endorsed the back of my own money order (natural reflex from depositing checks all the time) smh. I'm assuming that part was suppose to be blank, its suppose to be left for the payee/person getting paid to use when they cash it, I'm not suppose to be the one to sign it. Do you think that will matter? I've had people tell me its not a big deal as along as the "Pay To" on the front of the money order was correct and the fact that they run payment through machines that it won't matter. I guess this being my first time dealing with money order and paying Uncle Sam I want to make sure it doesn't come back as an error.

There is nothing you can do about it at this point. unless you would like to possibly make a "second" payment (i recommend electronically, so it gets there faster, and you can confirm it went through) and then you would be in a situation where you could possibly have two payments on record. that would result in you getting a refund check if both payments went through.

this is the biggest challenge with money orders. i would recommend that you work closely with the company/organization that you did the money order through.
