I'm looking to start my Jordan collection. I'm not trying to get into the game because it's "the cool thing to do" I'm looking because I genuinely love sneakers, Jordan's specifically. Finally got to a point where I can afford to start. Just looking for some tips, I don't know much about the different shoes but I definitely know what I like, and that's what I'm looking for. If you guys could help with tips and learning more about the different types and styles, best place to start. Different sites, things like that. Anything would be appreciated. I'm looking to dive in and gain as much knowledge as possible. Thanks in advance.

1. Make sure you have a lot of money, you mentioned earlier that you have a lot saved up. This is not a cheap hobby, expect to pay ridiculous prices for some Js, especially the more popular ones.

2. Buy what you like, dont follow the hype or the crowd, its more easier to go bankrupt that way.

3. Buy under you means, have priorities like bills, loans, family, etc.

4. Know your area real well and get to know some guys that deal the shoes. Try and form a relationship of some sort and watch their backs.

5. Look at ebay, craiglist for jordans. Check back here to see if the shoes are authentic or not.

6. Camp out early if you really want shoes that are coming out, it may be a pain in the neck but its well worth it in the end. Try to go with some buddies and such.

7. Enjoy the shoes, they don't last forever.

To learn more about jordans and their history search up videos on youtube and watch guys like jumpmanbostic, shoezeum, nightwing2303, etc...

I just started this past November, so I'm a baby to the shoe game as well. I work at a shoe store, and I was seeing all the heat my buddies were wearing and they basically got me into it. It's been slow since I started working there last March, but I genuinely love shoes now and believe I always will.

And it's great that you have saved up a lot of money. I don't get great hours where I work. I haven't run into situations where I can't pay my bills, but three are a lot of nice releases I've had to pass on because of my funds. Glad to know there is another baby to the game haha.

Getting into the sneaker game was the worst decision of my life!

But on the real like any other kind of collection, sneakers can actually make into worthwhile investments as well. I know a bunch of people who have worked hard to build their collections up from a couple of shoes to multi thousand dollar collections by jsut buy/selling/trading. My tips are as followed:

1) There are a lot of really good fakes out there and they are getting better and closer to the real thing with every release. Luckily we have a legit check forum here on NT that has a bunch of knowledgable members that will help you make informed purchases

2) Don't get too trigger happy with purchases

3) Buy and wear what you like

oh my god some of these responses.... "getting into the sneaker game" ... my advice though is don't feel like you have to fit in and buy all the "heat" for any kind of price just to be cool or complimented on your shoes. This hobby won't ruin your life as long as you can REALLY afford it, and you don't make stupid decisions. buy what you like and will wear because shoes don't last forever. nothing worse than spending $180 a pop and keeping them in a closet for 10 years to deteriorate and do nothing with. Might as well have given that $200 to the needy. most importantly, learn the skill of PASSING on a shoe.... there are much better things to invest 5-10 grand in and please believe it will add up to that or greater in no time, especially if you buy 5-10 shoes or more a year. Honestly I wouldn't even go crazy with it like that, just cop maybe 5 of your most loved jordans and call it good. after that, grab something here or there but you don't have to really make it a point to start some crazy collection. again, it comes down to would you rather save up the thousands to invest in something better later on like a house or a nice car, or would you rather get way too many Jays that you can only enjoy 1 by 1 for the next decade or so?

I got into this hobby since the Bred 11 release...

It's expensive and time consuming. But I do it because I never had the luxury of buying them as a little kid. Just remember priorities.

I've been collecting sneakers for about 14 years here and there. Its a great hobby as long as you can spend by your own means. It is okay to pass on a bunch of shoes. Just grab the sneakers you like and watch your collection grow.

Me personally I dont pay outrageous prices. I buy alot of jordans but for retail! If you missed a release dont worry bout it. If you missed a release it might restock so be patient. Dont go to resellers, just buy the upcoming jordans that you want. Thats what I do, unless the reseller is selling for only 30-50 dollars more.

the hunt is the fun now. looking for shoes that i couldn't afford as a kid and finding them now. a lot of them are under the radar too so the price may not be too crazy. I'm fine letting a pair of current kicks go at the rate these sneakers restock and re-release.

That's me to a T now.  Had a few growing up but missed out on a bunch due to $ and having to save up lunch money/allowances.  Often settled for sales rack or Barkley's back in the day.

Now that we're "grown up" (I'm 32 now) and make a decent living, grabbing these shoes is

. The wife still doesn't understand the lust, but doesn't give me too much of a hard time.

The problem is, I have more than I can wear.  Once you learn to stick with OG colorways or retros, you can help minimize buying shoes that you really don't need.

I'd say find something better to do with your time and money, I got into shoes maybe like 4 years ago and mostly was into the older shoes and some newer releases but after a year or so I realized its just a waste of time and money. I spent thousands on shoes and would rarely wear because I was worried about ruining the value of the shoe, but luckily I was able to sell most of the shoes I bought. I still have about 15 or so shoes left that I cant sell so I beat the living hell out of them, at the end of the day they're just shoes.

if you take care of your sneakers, you can always make some of your money back

Sounds like you got into it because of the hype and thinking it was something "cool" to do.

A person who loves this hobby doesn't care about the value of the shoe and wears even the rarest in his collection.
