It has been revealed, through a credited study, that 92% of Chicago’s black teens are unemployed; another tragic reminder of the tough economic policies governing the city at the moment. Thankfully, two of the hip hop’s biggest act are product of the Second City’s streets and refuse to turn their backs on their hometown. Kanye West’s  Donda HouseInc. and Common‘s foundation are preparing to partner with the Chicago Urban League   to create 20,000 jobs for youth.

Hoping to steer youth from the a life of crime, Common hopes that this will provide them an opportunity for positive lifestyles.
“Obviously, one of the biggest reasons our kids are going through what they’re going through is because of poverty. I was doing an event in the neighborhood and there were some kids from Englewood and I said, ‘Man, what do y’all really need? What’s gonna stop this?’ And they were like, ‘We need money. Man, if we could work.’ They want a chance,” said rapper Common. (Via Popinlines  )
These won’t just be summer jobs, Andrea Zopp,  CEO of the Chicago Urban League, hopes to provide youth with year long employment. There will be a concert raise money and awareness for this initiative, to be held on September 20-21. This is such a positive movement, we are hoping for their success.

Nice to see rappers reaching out.

 that WackArnold's clip

but on a serious note I hope more is done helping the youth in the Chi man. This is too tragic. I hope more is done to help these kids. I'm not even going to say anything negative because SOMETHING is being attempted here. It's a good start.

The initiative is fine, but what exactly will they be doing? It was pretty vague. Creating 20k jobs just like that? I can't be the only person skeptical about this...

I like that they're making the attempt to help the problem, but it will only do so little. So many of the teens are too far gone at this point. Some to the point where all hope has been lost for the working system. This will not help the crime rate decline. So many of those kids are empowered by the high crime rate and rep it to the fullest, hence the name "Chiraq" being acceptable and cool to many. Too many condone the lifestyle at this point for it to ever change.

Coming from a man that has completely lost hope for the black youth.

I agree that some are too far gone, but not all. It's a shame that some think that minimum wage jobs as a teen isn't enough. I mean, you have to start somewhere right? Starting at that level makes you want to work hard and get better because you don't want to be stuck at that station in life, but youth today are too spoiled

. This is why people don't have a real work ethic in life but want the world? You can't get something for nothing, you have to put forth some effort man.

What jobs though? That clip pretty much sums it up. Some people don't want jobs, they just want money :smh:

It's a start and least they are looking to give back regardless of their tax breaks. This should be applauded.

A job doing what?

I guess he will be directing the jobs toward achieving black youth with good GPAs
A lot of them fools saying they would be okay if they had a job can't even go to school like they're supposed to.
