Question about black history

see this type of stuff angers me. Why do you need excuses?

excuses bro? serious? 350 years of slavery, jim crow segregation and no reparations to speak of whatsoever and you want to talk about excuses?

the privileged are born into opulence whilst Black Americans are born into low-income tax brackets, ******** schools where teachers don't have the slightest interest in their students (hence the turnover rate in inner-city schools) and have to deal with systematic oppression and we're talking excuses man?

ignorance, pure and simple.

I hate to break it to you, but school is there to educate, not promote a pro-black culture or any culture for that matter. I didn't learn in depth about African History until I went to college, just like I didn't learn in depth about psychology or any other specific area that interested me. Truth be told, most general educational teachers aren't qualified to instruct on matters of such depth as African history with - cultural and linguistic barriers. Do you realize how many different languages and cultures exist within specific countries in Africa? I don't mean to defend our public education system which has numerous flaws both obvious, and latent.

Heck I wouldn't even know what would be taught in African history class. A nigerian would be looking at the teacher like I aint never been to Ethiopia bruh.
i don't expect pro-black education or even in-depth african education from public schools. but i'd prefer the curriculum to be as unbiased as possible. there shouldn't be a strict emphasis on american and european history while disregarding the pasts of other countries. it's important for our children of all colors to grow up as cultured individuals, and a worldly education is at the foundation of that.

Can't be.

You're saying American history is European history.

Have you ever opened up a history book?

You must be a simpleton bro, I'm convinced.

What's the thread about? Not American history, but history that is taught in school. Curriculum. Nobody is talking about just American History, we're talking about what is and isn't taught to the children of America.

I agree, i have first hand seen black ppl turned down simply because of the color of their skin.

And it truly saddens me how some ppl are still stuck in that racist mindset. Very sad

So why did you say....

That would be African history.

So what defines American history? Just how the Europeans came to be over here?

Because we learn all about European colonization, we learn all about European history, but we can't learn about how African Americans came to be?

Other than the Transatlantic slave trade?

Word?

Not eem black but that's a pile of ********.

Now I hope you're trolling. For your own sake.

No I hope you're trolling. For your own sake.

because YOU implied that we were talking about American history.

And even still, in that same vein when we learn about European history it's often as a precursor to American history.

Never do we talk about African history, even as a precursor to the atlantic slave trade.

and you keep saying that you hope I'm trolling, else what my dude? get loose with the knowledge my guy.

Why is it that in schools they dont teach black history about black ppl when they were in africa but they only teach about the martin luther king era and slavery?

I literally dont know nothing about blacks in africa and wondered why i dont know anything about it but i learned about white ppl from hundreds of years ago

Also whats a good start to learning about ancient black history
This is a really good question. good topic man

In AZ in 2010 a state law was passed that banned mexican american studies. They felt the it would bring some type of racial resentment and the DISTRICT would lose 10% of school funding until it was elimanated

The more you know the more questions you have and it will upset the Matrix

Cuz in publich schools in America they're more inclined to teach the black history pertaining to black Americans. You should've got some schooling on Garvey, DuBois, Washington, abolishment movment, etc. as well. In another history class for jhs you should have at least covered something in the pre industrial era; pharoahs, the Nile, etc. If you want African history you won't get it in a public or private school really. Unfortuantely you'll have to wait to take a college course.

Why it's like that has many answers. Overall I'd say the country doesn't have a firm grip on the education curriculum and what's most important. It took me until the middle of HS to realize I was getting cheated on learning the full history of the country and I excelled at the particular subject.

I as well.

Dynasties, Silk Road, East India Company, Colonial India etc....

Not a lick of African history.
if im correct your from NYC also

anyone that went to highschool here knows that you take 2 years of Global Studies and 1 of U.S history

In Global Studies all you learn about africa is slavery and apartheid MAYBE a lil something about Egypt but always in reference to the middle east or some kind of turmoil

On the other hand you go fairly deep into other histories to the point where i was in highschool with the russell westbrook face like this aint adding up

those are all european historical events in asia though
the others yes but the first thing he wrote was dynasties though

i remember learning a good amount about some of the great asian dynasties, we also def learned a lot about their culture and customs as well as religions

What?

YOU asked where does American history start.

EXACTLY, even when we learn about Chinese dynasties, it's only as a precursor to British Imperialism.

wink.gif
the english language has a lot to do with this, textbook writers are not going to put in the extra effort to go translate a bunch of other language texts when writing their textbooks. when writing a section on asia, they will research english sources on asia which are written from a white mans perspective.
