Get rid of D'antoni

Resign Pau for cheap

Draft either Exum, Smart, or Parker

Proceed to win championship

SRS!

With that note, i'll leave this thread before I get kicked out.

Go Lakers!

Enjoy the offseason fellas!

People have been saying they're OK with Pau for the right price.

2 years is already not the right price

Man Mitch hope it ain't so

sure it is if its the vets min. he can come off the bench for monroe. then jabari parker can lead us to glory, along with kobe and nick young. all nick really needs is a proper coach or mentor to teach him that scoring is his absolute strength, and teams know that, so when that double comes, that pass can be automatic for him translating into easy points for the team. you figure it took kobe hella years to understand it, but it finally clicked with him too. nick can be usable.

The offseason thread is finally here. Draft is about a month away, and no thanks to Smart.

all while i have the raptors on tv all day and they are talking about their best year ever when other eastern teams are throwing games trying to play them in the first round

Jabari declared:
Is Jabari Parker worthy of top pick?

Chad Ford's Top 100: No. 2
Strengths: Usage, Shooting, Rebound%, TO% | Weakness: Assist%
WARP projection: 2.7 (fourth among top 100)
Comparables: Carmelo Anthony (96.4), Michael Beasley (96.1), Kevin Durant (95.3), Luol Deng (94.7)

The analytics perspective

Kevin Pelton: Parker scores similarly to the most accomplished freshmen in the one-and-done era. Offensively, Parker is close to a sure thing. He was used in more than 30 percent of Duke's possessions while remaining efficient because he rarely turned the ball over and got to the free throw line on a regular basis. He'll have to watch his field goal percentage because he can fall in love with the long 2, but Parker should be able to get to the basket off the dribble against NBA power forwards.

Quantifying Parker's defensive shortcomings is more of a challenge, given the paucity of defensive stats at the NCAA level. But the Blue Devils' weak interior defense was a major reason why they were upset by Mercer in the round of 64. According to Hoop-Math.com, Duke ranked 280th in defense at the rim, allowing opponents to shoot 62.7 percent.

The scouting perspective

Amin Elhassan: The son of a former first-round pick, Parker combines a good feel for the game with a big frame (6-foot-8, 240 pounds) and length. He makes quick decisions with his touches, and isn't prone to holding on to the ball to try and get what he wants. He has good handles for a guy his size, but he seems to struggle getting the separation to get by guys, and as a result will resort to step-back shots and pull-up jumpers off the dribble. Also, Parker is an excellent finisher around the rim, and knows how to use his size/strength advantage to go up, over and through defenders. He possesses a solid back-to-the-basket game, and often sets up the defense with a turnaround jumper going middle so he can go to a drop-step along the baseline. Parker is a willing passer (though he mostly makes the obvious ones).

Parker has a tendency to drag his pivot foot when trying to extend his reach past solid defense. Furthermore, he's just an OK jump shooter, not nearly good enough to rely on it as heavily as he does. A big concern is whether he'll be able to manufacture enough easy basket opportunities around the rim at the next level.

As far as defense, Parker shows good awareness on that end of the court, but he's not very comfortable or confident on the perimeter. His lateral quickness is an issue, and he doesn't seem to know how to effectively use his length and size as a cushion. He also is prone to getting blown by on defense; the same issue bedevils him on closeouts. Parker sags to the paint almost exaggeratedly when playing off the ball, which further complicates his closeouts.

Parker's affinity for post play draws the Carmelo Anthony comparisons, but I also see more collegiate Paul Pierce and Mike Scott (from Virginia, now with the Atlanta Hawks) as similarities.

The NBA front-office perspective

Chad Ford: Parker might be the most skilled offensive freshman in the country. Blessed with a well-rounded game that allows him to score from anywhere on the floor and a high basketball IQ that helps him pick his spots, Parker projects as one of the few players in this draft who could possibly step into the NBA right away and score 20 points per game. He also has proved to be a good rebounder and has high character and leadership abilities.

However, Parker isn't a slam dunk to be an NBA superstar. He lacks elite athleticism, has some conditioning issues that worry scouts, is a bit of a "tweener" defensively and was torched on the defensive end at times during his freshman season. As big of an asset as he is on the offensive end, he could be that big of a liability on the defensive end.

Parker's ceiling may depend on how much a better conditioning program improves his lateral quickness. He has everything else. Many scouts believe his best comp might be former No. 1 pick Glenn Robinson. As such, he's in consideration for the No. 1 pick from a number of NBA teams, and it seems highly unlikely he'll fall out of the first four picks in the draft.

Almost ensures the Lakers at the very least get one of Gordon, Smart or Vonleh unless something catastrophic happens.

5 "upper-tier" guys in Bari, Wiggins, Embiid, Randle, Exum....

And we play ourselves to the 6th spot. :smh:

2003 draft saw 4 studs and 1 bust in the top 5.

Sitting at 6, the Clippers.

Maybe Simmons is right, we've switched bodies with the Clipps. :smh:

have some faith CP. just because we are ranked 6th in percent does not guarantee we won't get top 3 :winkyface

I assume it's gonna be more than a vet min. Even something like $3 mil/year might not seem like a lot, but it's still a big chunk of the money they have available to spend if they want to keep max money open.

Certainly possible he takes min money, but doesn't seem likely if he's already checked out/over it like it seems.

CP still crying?

C'mon man seasons over... Sheesh.
Can't do anything until the lottery happens. Just wait and see.

I'm more interested in the superstar that's gonna be picked outside of the top 5 picks cuz there will be one.

I'm pissed that odds say that we won't land in the top 3 but I'm not putting all my faith in the top 3. We just need to do what we have always done and that is finding that diamond in hiding that other teams don't see.

Some of the best players that have ever touched a basketball were picked out of the top 5 ...just remember that.

All we can do is have faith & support. But us being Debbie downers all day everyday isn't gonna help anything.

CP let me ask you, as far as the players outside of the top 5 who would you say would eventually have a chance at being a superstar?

Smart, Vonleh, Gordon all look like solid players.

Not sure if there is a Nash, Kobe, George in there, but solid nonetheless.

Could be in the Lawson, Faried, Marion type, borderline all star range. (Not their skill set, talkin overall NBA player rank)

No.

MJ
Magic
Bird
Kareem
Shaq
Duncan
Durant
LeBron
West
Hakeem
Wilt
Russell
Garnett

Are some of the best to ever play the game, in some order. ALL top 5.

Don't let Kobe at 13 screw with your thought process. The best of the best come from the top 5, period. They FAR outweigh the outliers. It's not even close.
