How the hell is the NBA a bad product?

I see this sentiment pop up from time to time but never in reference to any other sport.

I think its ********, absolute ********.

NBA admits officials missed foul call in Clippers' loss to Warriors

When a playoff game is determined by the incompetence of refs, well I think that's a great example of why the NBA is a bad product.

Then you got Mark Jackson fouling D Jordan on purpose as game strategy because the kid can't shoot free throws? That's how sad the NBA is these days, instant replays due to all the fraud committed by the refs, and game strategy that involves a guy shooting 45% FT pct. :x

I agree with your first point about the poor quality of refs, but blaming Mark Jackson for having a good strategy? Really? That's on DeAndre for being such a trash FT shooter

So then the Steelers/Seahawks Super Bowl means the NFL is a poor product, yes?

Ever seen a strike zone in the postseason?

All the leagues have instant replay now, so.........?

You guys can't come in here and bash the NBA for what they do, and then prop up the other sports with the exact same issues.

That's like saying you hate Barry Bonds for using steroids, but your favorite player is Alex Rodriguez. Naw man.

There's no sport where players do so much creative, free flowing thinking, and have to do it together as one mind, than professional basketball. There's no sport where chemistry is so important and coaches' schemes developed at a desk matter so little. That's what makes the NBA so great.

Soccer is comparable but there's something special about having only 5 players on a court and how much they have to so together on both offense and defense.

white America isn't crazy about basketball, especially the NBA.  that's really all there is to it.  almost every bar I went to this weekend I had to ask for the basketball games to be put on.  I was even told no a few times in favor of April baseball

THIS. w's doing their thing out here, but the Giants will always be the team out here. buster posey jerseys everywhere.
LA probably the only big city where basketball is THE sport.

it's a more younger crowd/hip hop culture. most of the older folks dont care for it

People just like to complain and be nostalgic about the "good old days". The league has a TON of talent now and a ton of superstars. Vets are playing very well even when they're passed their primes. Complex NBA defenses nowadays put a premium on ball movement and unselfish basketball. No stars are flaming out due to their bad attitudes. The game is more international than ever. I have no idea what people complain about.

The refs are just as good/bad as they always have been. If anything, instant replays helps solve this issue.

NHL.

Personally, I lost interest in the NBA in about '01 when I saw how much impact the Refs had on the TWolves / Lakers series. From then on, it just seemed like the NBA was rigged.

NY is a basketball city when the Knicks are terrible they sellout even the Yankees don't get that treatment

That would be 04.

And the refs had impact on every single season, back thru the 80's. But hey, no need to let facts stop ya bruh.

as much as people like to throw the "fix is in" phrase at nba games, reality is its just really really hard to ref NBA games. there are guys like cp3 and harden that make a living off drawing fouls and making it look like they have been fouled. at the highest level of the sport people are going to do everything they can to get a competitive advantage, overall the nba refs are very good and a college ref put in an nba game wouldnt stand a chance

You think I give a F what year that was? That's why I said "about '01", because I could care less to look up what year that actually was.

Additionally, you're proving my point even more by suggesting the impact of the Refs goes way back. That's why the product is weak, because it all seems rigged... And I personally noticed it was blatant in that series. Since then, blah.

But isn't intentionally fouling a horrible ft shooter like Jordan ruining the NBA product though?

Where in my post did I compare other sports? The NFL and MLB are just as bad today as the NBA. Let me guess, your argument is an apple to orange comparison.

I guess you missed the part where a ref in the Super Bowl apologized for missing multiple calls.

As a white guy, I have always wondered why this was the case. In baseball, you have a significant percentage of players that don't speak English. Then in the nfl, you have more players arrested than in any other sport. I don't understand why basketball gets a worse rap than the others.

White people still have more elite representations in football and baseball than basketball. To go a step further...american born white representations.

There hasn't been a transcendent white american born NBA player since Larry. The NBA is still on the hunt for that next great white hype... Kevin love doesn't quite fit the bill.

Basketball is "urban".

It doesn't... The perception is that the NBA is rigged, all calls go to the superstars, defense if weak at best 90% of the game / season, isolation offense if boring, coach's are not empowered to coach, and games are just flat out boring. That's why you hear people suggest that "the NBA puts out a bad product."

/Thread.

And this has nothing to do with ****. White America embraces MJ, Lebron, KD, Chris Paul, etc, etc, etc, just as much as they do Brett Favre and Wes Welker. Stop reaching.

We see what happens coaches are empowered to coach in College basketball, this thing about about nobody plays defense in the NBA and they play real defense in college is a lie, the college game has poor spacing, limited offensive players, 35 second shot clock and the officiating is far worse.
