Moving to SoCal

Whats a fair price for a 2 bed 2 bathroom house in the lake forest area?
Pretty sure you'll only be able to find condos/ townhouses with 2 bd 2ba in lake forest.  Most houses are going to be 3-4 bedrooms and no less than $2500 a month.

Any real difference from Cal State LA and CSUN? Those right now are the two I'm looking at the most after spending a year at a cc.

CSUN is a bit better regarded in terms of quality of education. However, if you want to want to be a teacher, Cal State LA has the best teacher credential program or if you want to go on that track. I have a friend who went to UCLA undergrad, USC masters and now at Cal State LA for his doctorate in education.

In terms of living, Cal State LA is in a bit more industrial area with not so desireable living within walking distance. Most people take public transportation, drive, or bike here. CSUN has more apts and 'college life' within walking distance.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I'm trying to hopefully live on campus coming from Mpls. Then try to meet up with people and get a room/apt later in the summer. Got a raise at one of my jobs so I really want to get there ASAP. I want to get back into school and experience COLLEGE in a new place.

Applying to both is in Oct/Nov so hopefully I can get in. Going to try at a CC before going maybe take some equivalent classes with a smaller class size.

Real excited about this becoming a reality just trying to be positive.

I lived by one simple quote that helped me get through school, "If you don't quit, you will finish." Sounds obvious but my friend's dad, who was a decorated engineer, taught me that. You can also look online for homestay situations. Much more cheaper and less drama in my opinion.

Thanks for the quote but trust me bro I'M GOING TO FINISH! Plus I don't want to stay home there is more outside of Minneapolis and I plan on seeing all of it.

Just an update, nothing yet from either college. So not too worried but maybe plan b, just moving there and start somewhere so if I would go to a CC for a year before transferring what CC would you guys recommend?

I live close to downtown Mpls and I like the fast pace style can't do middle of nowhere college.

My heads still up but I told myself 2015 I need a new location.

Santa Monica college is amazing and if you follow their transfer program you can pretty muach transfer whenever you want. El Camino is a cheaper alternative and staying in that area is a lot cheaper Also. Would also look into long beach city college. Not sure how that is.

Harbor college is full of immature folks but you can get a quality education there if you're focused and care.

^Thank you for the info sir. I think this might be the route right now for me. On 10/29 CSUN will send out the acceptance admissions letters. And I just called Cal State LA and since I applied for the Spring (April) quarter, used to Spring semester meaning starts Jan I'll have to wait until the end of Dec. so by then maybe I'm getting ready to move to CSUN campus or moving to LA. Either way I believe I can make this happen. Just need to look for cheap spots on craigslist or see if any of my friends will let me couch surf until I get situated school wise.

Oh might look into that.

Welp got a respectful "No" from Cal State LA. Now the wait on Northridge. Hopefully I can get into a CC by Jan. think me moving out there has to be the rotue and which is fine. I think it would be more fun for me. I like the deadline pressure.
Just finding a place to sleep is the problem right now. I'll use Westside rentals as well couch surf website too. Should hit up some friends too.

Going to look at the colleges mecks mecks mention.

Anyone have any good areas in LA or Santa Monica. Looking at West side rentals a few people need roomates.

Applied at Santa Monica College and got the acceptance email. This should be fun.

Congrats man!

As Mecks said, Santa Monica College is a great stepping stone for students to transfer to UCLA, USC, or wherever you want to go.  I've met friends (non-native here) who went to SMC for the first two years to save money before going to UCLA and USC.

As for places to live, I think most places on the Westside are good/safe - Mar Vista, Venice, Santa Monica, Culver City, Palms...

I got some contacts where you can go through homestays as well. Traditionally, they are for international students but I dont see why they won't take you guys. Really cheap and breakfast / dinner included. I just put my cousin and he had a backhouse with his own bathroom for $800 / month. Quick 20 min bus ride from SMC.
