NES game cover art appreciation thread

This thread is dedicated to a simpler time in video gaming. When the only things you had to help you decide on what game to buy was word of mouth, the description on the back and the cover art. Even the bad ones were so epically bad, they were awesome.

Double Dragon 2
View media item 943806How could you not want to play this? Does this not look like "Early 90s Action Movie: The Game"? In hindsight it was total false advertising. Billy and Jimmy never found that ***** nor did they ever get helicopter support.

Ninja Gaiden
View media item 943813Why is the city on fire? What is he standing on? What the hell was "strategic" about this game? Doesn't matter, there's a ******* ninja on the cover.

Metal Gear
View media item 943825That IS....not "resembles", not "inspired by", not "close enough not to get sued", that is Kyle Reese from The Terminator. SOLD.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
View media item 943838All four of them are Raphael. Wtf? This wasn't even, like, in the beginning of Ninja Turtles. Totally excusable today.

Contra
View media item 943858I'm 8 years old. That's not Arnold Schwartznegger and Sylvester Stallone versus the Alien. Please, tell me more..

And you know this thread isn't complete without the granddaddy..

Great thread. Wish I could contribute but on mobile

Vectorman got me for some reason

Had a Sega game with a bunch of beasts/animals on the cover  forget the name of that

Let's not forget instruction manual appreciation. How else would you know the names of random enemies or what your favorite characters favorite hobby was?

Man I loved that stuff  We don't get **** now :smh:

What you know about bringing the instruction manual to school to show your friends at lunch?

Not to derail a great thread but games today are nothing but cash grabs. "Give less and ask for more" mentality. They don't care about their product, it's all about making easy money. "We'll fix it later" "we'll add more later just buy it now" "pay for content that should be included" type business plans :smh:

TMNT game

That water level where you had to find all the bombs..

I sucked at that game :smh:

Some of the memorable ones for me:

Why was this game so impossible?

Never understood why it was called FIGHTING golf. Imagine the look on my face as a kid when I realized you weren't swinging irons at each other.

I thought they legit ****** up with that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cover, but you just made me do some research OP and learn that the original comics actually had them all wearing red bandanas.

They were just bicken' back being bool like they're supposed to :pimp:

Eternal Champions was one of my fave games I bought on a total whim. I think Bone Thugs sampled one of the songs on it

Nintendo censorship.. So they change it from blood red.. To piss yellow ? Lol

Oh..
I beat double dragon 2. The hard part is getting across those rooms where you jump on ledges and platforms.

Also its obvious who the ogs are.. We talking bout 8bit and folks bringing up 16bit games.. Jk.. By 16bit generation.. A lot of game mags out there.. GamePro
