NT fam has been extremely helpful to me many times before.

SparkNotes:
- 22yo, live near NYC with family, no student loans/debt, ~$50k saved up
- Got laid off a month ago from my first job out of college ($60k finance job) due to firm reducing headcount
- I have previous multiple finance internships (interned during college) + currently doing unpaid work for a small Private Equity firm + willing to do internships at this point
- More than happy to PM my resume to NT fam who don't mind taking a look and offering criticism
- Game plan so far: talking to recruiters/homies/connections, applying everywhere (in other fields too), cold-calling/emailing

Just wanted to get NT's insight on navigating unemployment + what I should be doing extra moving forward.

Thanks in advance. Much appreciated.

Damn man sorry to hear that., however You are in good shape. Real good to be honest.

Stay up on trends with in your industry, first come first serve when your competing with 500 million people trying to work in NYC.

Been there so I can relate. Over a year in my case. Lowest point of my life. At least you have a nice sized rainy day fund to hold you over. Reach out to your alma mater's career center if you can. We get help for life with my school and it was very beneficial. Redid my resume and got more interviews out of it. If it's available, do contract work. It's not permanent but it's something to put on your resume.

At least you have a cushion. The best advice I can give is to stay positive and keep active. Don't become stagnant with the extra time.

Do alot of networking and something new will come up. Get a part time gig in the meantime as well.

Keep us posted fam. We sendin you our best NT wishes.

Sucks to hear man. Same thing happened to me a little less than a year ago.

I would suggest you reach out to recruiters. Since you are in the NYC area, I would look up executive search firms and send your resume over to them. Also LinkedIn is a great tool. I used both during my search and was hired within a month of being laid off.

PM me if you have any questions or want to know more.

I would take about 10k and travel southeast asia or somewhere else cheap for 6 months. That's what I would do since the world as so much to offer and there is so much i want to see.

Then see from there.

You'll be good though.

$50k?

You're doing better than people with jobs.

Plus interning at a PE firm?

You'll land something eventually.

@yeezus: one can do financial consulting for companies, financial planning for people, help a startup with valuation for investors....

Anything that deals with money, to be honest.

for real tryna slide that 50k in the post like its nothin.......you'll be aight fam
son literally has a years worth of after tax salary of a financial analyst and is concerned.

AND he stays at home? That's like... 3 years worth of money.
