If I were to venture a guess, it would be that the material on the midsole might be too porous and it might soak up the paint and eventually affect the feel of the shoe? The boost is suppose to be individual capsules instead of one big piece of solid foam so there are some micro spaces between the capsules that are bonded together and if paint gets in there and hardens then the performance/responsiveness would be affected. That would be my hypothesis.

I know someone posted a page or so back that someone else painting the sole black but i'd be curious if it still felt the same afterwards?
i feel like they could dye the material any color, but i'm not a material scientist.
RFX, i didn't think of that, it quite possible, due to the manufacturing process which you mentioned. Idk if you were getting at this also, but I wore my pure boosts into the ground, and the boost itself looks like a sponge under the top coating, the paint would definitely effect the density of the foam.

also, on tony's point, i don't see what harm dying the foam before it's shaped into the capsules would have, however it could have the same effect as the paint

I was thinking that it might be part marketing? Adidas always shows the white capsule, or emphasizes the white midsole, sort of like how lunarlon is traditionally volt

It could all be marketing, the tubulars a good example, I think they only have one pair with black sole and the rest all have white soles. I don't think there are any techs affected there.

But I find it fun to ponder.

I do think that the way these capsules are bonded together in such a small space that even the dye or any micro changes like providing less space or whatnot might affect it? Really not sure. Maybe if they dye the individual capsules before bonding them together might hinder how they stick together?

I thought adidas did the boost soles like that because they're easier to manufacture or something? I remember reading something like that a long time ago

^ that makes the most sense. i'm sure they're capable of changing the sole color, but in order to keep production costs minimal they just have one sole. in my opinion, this shoe was designed to compete with the roshe run so minimizing the cost difference is crucial.

I don't think it's the price as the Pure Boost practically doubled up the price of the Roshes. Plus if you look at the UltraBoost or any other more performance oriented boost shoes compared to the casual oriented Pure Boost, the shape of the sole is different.

Plus they are incorporating the boost tech further, there is a tubular with boost and the Yeezy has boost inside. I am curious how the boost performs there as it encapsulate it and th eboost would need some air to escape and and come in to get the most of it (?) so i don't think it is just cost cutting. That may play a role but I don't think it is the one and only reason.

that sucks cuz this white midsole is almost impossible to clean. I wanna have my wife paint them but I'm sure it'll just crack because of how much give boost has. I'll pay a little extra for a black midsole.

I've tried rubbing alcohol and nail polish remover, couldn't be bothered to buy acetone but I'm sure that would be more effective

Someone suggested some industrial stuff that cleans up oil and grease off cars but they didn't suggest a name. I imagine that would have to work to clean these soles

I've been looking for a product too

Asked the question about why the midsole was white on every boost release at an Ultra Boost clinic I attended for work (led by a tech rep for adidas), as I too thought it was for marketing purposes, but alas she informed me that the reason for it always being white was because they simply have not figured out a way too dye the midsole where it still looks good afterwards/up to their standards. Though she did say they were making progress.

also saw a winterized version of the Ultra boost slated for next fall, I'm not sure if I can say what the upper was constructed of yet, but trust that knit looked real warm.

Great info and it's good that it isn't pure marketing though that chick does work for Adidas so who knows.

Anyways, here's a nice vid I found on youtube for a nice detailed look of the Pure Boost 2 and a comparison with the first gen.

After watching the vid, the improvements on the fit and cushioning seems great but overall I think I still prefer the look of the first ones, it just has a cleaner and more solid look with that 1-piece upper. The new upper with the detailing, especially by the toe, makes it look more like a regular running shoes. Speaking strictly about the toe detail, it reminds me of something like some retro Nike Pegasus or New Balance or even other Adidas Energy Boost (it has a similar pattern design by the toe). They should have just kept it cleaner. I just think they did a bit much on the upper of the 2.0 with that leather-esque material that is pretty distinct from the rest of the shoe, it's not a cohesive.

Well that's my 2cents anyways.

I like the 1s better from a style standpoint, however The 2s look like they'll actually be able to perform better. I know it's not their designed use, but I used to play basketball in the 1s, as well as run occasionally. The upper, at least on the monotone pairs is extremely stretchable. This meant that no matter how tightly I tied them if I made a cut my foot was going to slide out of the footbed. Also, the mesh type material that they used I didn't find to be durable at all, I have so many holes on my pair that I don't wear them for risk of looking like a homeless person. The material used on the twos would appear to fix both of my problems, which I really like. Id rather pay 100-120 for a pair of these than shell out a lot more for some ultras, even if I probably should.

Coming back to the point in white boost soles being uncleanable, I've never been able to get a speck of dirt off of mine. I wore them into champs once and the salesman told me he'd never seen a dirtier pair of white midsoles. He then proceeded to try to use whatever cleaner they market on them, which did absolutely nothing.

well, youre using a shoe for a purpose that it wasnt intended for and getting horrible results cause of that. and i clean my pure boost mid-soles with my jason markk cleaner (which i think is overrated) and it gets them pretty much 98% perfect.

i just couldnt imagine playing any type of competitive basketball, even just pick up games, in pure boosts or even going on light runs in them.

its like putting slicks on a car and then not being happy with the performance of the tires when you go off-roading.

yeah i understand completely what youre saying

I never would have thought they'd have been good performance shoes, i just didn't think they'd be so bad, and the 2 looks a lot better in that department

thanks for the info. looks like they made some overall improvements but I still like the originals better. I'll wait for a black on black pair of the 2s before making a decision

Also where in the hell did these come from? Need asap!! Check out the link for awesome looking green ultra boost.

View media item 1408989This shoe fits pretty snug for tts...holy hell its even snug on the 0.5 up pair...i have toe space on both pair but it feels constricted in the upper area where (tongue area) supposed to be. Sorry for the crappy phone pic..too lazy to pull out dslr.
ok just ran 5 minutes jog then sprint on a 0.5 higher pair feels amazing, grippy feel, still pretty light, just a little roomy in the toes, also has a grippy sound from the bottom black part of soles. had minor heel slippage on left pair on the beginning uphill but feels pretty good.
The TTS pair is starting to feel better, I went for a 5 min run, and just wearing it in the house, it just feels too snug even with my thin nike socks...I'll try my Nike Basketball socks but I'm pretty sure I will start getting uncomfortable. I'll update with these details. the TTS pair does feel slightly lighter tho.

For anyone here that ordered on Adidas.com. Did your credit card get charged yet? I ordered on 11th and got my shoes today and still not charged...btw these TTS i've been wearing trying to hopefully 'stretch' them out but damn these are smaller than my Size 9 Roshes (1/2 size down TTS).

Nters is it best to have a snug shoe for working(RN nurse here) and running? or go comfier snug (half size up) for running/working?

If they are anything like the OG energy boost, these will stretch out comfortably. The Energy boost was also very tight but after wearing for a week it stretched out. My ultra boost pair is coming next week and I ordered the same size.

Edit: I got TTS

I ordered a pair of Veritas Mids, received them, and didn't get charged until like two weeks later. Weird, but whatever. Adidas will come for their money

Everyone has their own opinion on how a shoe should fit...but ask any podiatrist or shoe salesman that doesn't work at Footlocker and they'll tell you that you should have at LEAST a pinky-width of room between your longest toe and the end of the shoe. Running shoes should have a thumbs-width or about 1/2 inch of space. Your feet swell and elongate as the day goes on. If you're on your feet for long periods of time, you do not want a snug shoe. You'll damage your toes/toenails and have foot pain.

Ideally, you want a shoe that has the aforementioned space at the front, is wide enough for your foot, and when you stand on the ball of your foot--you should be able to stick one finger behind your heel.
