Hip-hop’s race to a billion may be over. Apple is reportedly set to purchase Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine’s Beat Electronics for $3.2 billion. This would also include the Beats Music Streaming service. Last September, Beats accepted a $500 million investment from The Carlyle Group.

Although the deal has yet to be finalized, Tyrese uploaded a video last night of Dre boasting about becoming hip-hop’s first billionaire. Stay tuned.

Congrats to Dre... He knew what he was worth, left death row with nothing, signed over his rights to everything to be a free agent, stayed on his grind & voila... Amazing...

On another note, there have a number of different people to make a billion dollars off of "hip hop" culture. It's amazing to me that we're just now getting a black hip-hop billionaire.
 
To think, a potty mouth-rebellious member of "Negroes With Attitude" would one day become a billionaire. I honestly am shell shocked at how brilliant and business savvy Andre Young is.
