2014 NFL Draft In Review

I just trust Gus Bradley, which is why I feel like the Jags are in the right direction.

Not a big Bortles guy, but if what they said was true about sitting him the entire year, then I like that pick 100x more than I do now.

We badly needed help in the receiving game and got a lot of it with two huge targets to put next to VJax plus the best pass catching RB in the draft. Doug better watch his back....Lovie sees a lot of Forte in Charles Sims.

Winners?  Losers?  Steals?  Future Busts?

My thoughts:

Winner:

-Cleveland got a future first rounder (almost certainly top 15) to trade down 4 spots.  They picked up their top CB and top QB choices in the first round.

-Jags.  I wasn't really a Bortles fan but I know nothing anyway.  I like how they stocked up on pass catchers in the later rounds.

-Cowboys: Hey, suddenly the Cowboys might have one of the best O-lines in football next year.  Is Jerry learning?  Probably not.

Losers:

-Buffalo, for giving up a future high first to take a damn wide receiver.  :smh:   I don't care if Watkins is a star, he better be a superstar to make this worthwhile.  And then they turn around and trade away their current #1/future #2 WR for nothing?  Don't get it.

-Titans took a tackle they can't even play.  Because they gave Michael "The Not-Blind Side" Oher a big contract to play RT.  Most likely theyll just trade Roos, a good LT, and move Lewan into that spot...  Meaning their team didn't get better in any way.

-Lions: Come on man, take some defense, add some toughness.  I know they have a great line already, so they don't necessarily need a great blocking TE, but something about taking a TE who doesn't block just adds to the perception of these guys as a finesse team.  Management clearly doesn't care about the secondary in any way, shape, or form.

Not as good as you guys think:

-Rams: they're still going to be mediocre next year.  Everyone gets hyped about them every draft because they take players the analysts love.  That doesn't always mean they're having the greatest draft.  Case in point: last year, when Kiper gave them an A-.  Tavon only showed us anything on special teams, and Ogletree didn't prove anything either way.  I like that they addressed their need at tackle, but the secondary is still garbage.

-49ers: Mel Kiper said you had the best draft.  You know what that means.

My Hawks:
-I have no idea who these guys are.  We took a 6ft, 170lb WR  .

They Traded for Mike Williams for the Bucs not too long ago

I'm a niners fan, but Alec Ogletree was one of the best young LB's with 118 tackles last year...very athletic

Tavon was underutilized in his first season.

I loved our draft, think Aaron Lynch was a steal, as long as he can get back to his weight when he played at ND

well that, and he also claimed the shooting at sandy hook was a government conspiracy, or something to that effect

Yeah... there was that, too. :smh: Dumbass.

Guy was fun to watch. If he could just get his head straight.

Your future QB makes some great passes in that video, btw

When Miami Dolphins safety Don Jones tweeted "horrible" in regards to Michael Sam kissing his boyfriend on ESPN after being drafted by the St. Louis Rams on Saturday, it wasn't a moment the NFL, Sam, the Dolphins or anyone wanted.

But make no mistake, it allowed the NFL an opportunity to send a strong message: If you have public and negative comments about Sam and his sexuality, you will be punished and shamed.

Jones, a second-year strong safety who had 10 tackles in 16 games last year, tweeted "omg" right after ESPN showed Sam's reaction to being drafted. According to thephinsider.com, when asked on Twitter if he was referring to Sam kissing his boyfriend, Jones tweeted, "horrible."

The Dolphins and NFL aren't going to mess around with this type of thing. Jones was fined and suspended from all team activities until he completes educational training for his Twitter comments. The Dolphins didn't put this off. On a relatively quiet Sunday around the NFL, the Dolphins announced the punishment, put out a statement from coach Joe Philbin and an apology from Jones:

Philbin: “We were disappointed to read Don’s tweets during the NFL Draft. They were inappropriate and unacceptable, and we regret the negative impact these comments had on such an important weekend for the NFL. We met with Don today about respect, discrimination and judgment. These comments are not consistent with the values and standards of our program. We will continue to emphasize and educate our players that these statements will not be tolerated.”

Jones: “I want to apologize to Michael Sam for the inappropriate comments that I made last night on social media. I take full responsibility for them and I regret that these tweets took away from his draft moment. I remember last year when I was drafted in the seventh round and all of the emotions and happiness I felt when I received the call that gave me an opportunity to play for an NFL team and I wish him all the best in his NFL career. I sincerely apologize to Mr. Ross, my teammates, coaches, staff and fans for these tweets. I am committed to represent the values of the Miami Dolphins organization and appreciate the opportunity I have been given to do so going forward.”

:smh:

I did a horrible job this last year of keeping up with the top NFL QB prospects. I'd like to watch as much as I can next year....Starting with Mariota since I'm in the Pac-12 region. He's easily 1b to Winston's 1a right now, but we all know how those things can change pretty quickly. Hundley is another guy I want to evaluate.

What other Q's are out there for 2015?

1. Jameis
2. Mariota
3. Hundley

:smh:

Did the organization not see Pouncey's tweet on the incoming rookies?

Given what that organization just went through, I'm surprised Pouncey wasn't fined too. I guess since that locker room issue is yesterday's news, they think nobody notices. Or is it because Jones is a nobody and Pouncey actually has value to the team?

Joker *** franchise. :smh:

Don't you mean eagles future QB.. Sure the texans will draft him, but he'll eventually make his way to Philly

Joker *** franchise. :smh:

Or just joker *** business in general

There isnt enough public outcry for the stories of Haslam, Irsay and Pouncey's tweets to garner response

Every league is about protecting the bottom line (Sterling)...none of these stories are any different

If it doesnt catch fire, they'll put it out and keep it moving

I'm happy with the eagles draft.. We got some really high character guys..

With avant and desean gone, huff is a sneaky good pick because he comes in already knowing the system.. I expect him to come in and contribute right away

And everything I've heard about Mathews has been great

Wish we could have gotten an ILB.. But christian jones must have done something terrible (can't just be weed, right?)

Pouncey took his Twitter down I believe.

no clue who the skins drafted...believe we got some offensive line man....good enough  protect fragile rg3

I think the emphasis of the browns picking up a WR felt overblown

Jags and Gus have done well since the off-season started, Bortles seems to be the consensus pick nobody likes outsode of the media but if they guessed right? They're building a solid foundation already around him.

Hawks draft works for me...speed, unconventional, versatile guys..gotta trust it
Word.

Pouncey's tweets were definitely more damaging for the Dolphins as an organization too, since they pointed to team issues and not just one guy's dumb opinion.  But yeah, they're in contract negotiations and he's their best O-lineman....

How else are you supposed to Judge the class before they step on the field? Ppl thought that Tavon would be a good pick because they figured that the Rams would use him correctly. If that's your thought, then it was a good pick going into the season.

Ogletree had a pretty good season last year & they picked up 3 DB's in the draft so it's safe to say they are attempting to address their problems on the back end

Christian Jones is not (or has not been over his college career) a good inside LB, though he has all the measurables for it.

But yeah, it had to be something else going on w/ him.

Texans
- Took 12 years to address the nose tackle situation, not only through the draft, but through FA. Love it.
- Glad we drafted Clowney instead of trying to be cute with trades and over thinking it.

Seahawks
- I have no idea what they did other than constant trade-backs and Paul Robinson

The League
- I'm very interested to see how the Bucs, Rams, Vikes, and Browns do moving forward.
- Ravens continue to draft well on defense.

That would make more sense if a team with multiple Oregon Ducks, including their all-pro center, didn't just win the Super Bowl.

Good job, good effort.
