moving out of parents house. on 44k a year salary. Advice, experience, etc.

Where do you live? That literally makes all the difference. If it's not NYC, DC, NoVa then I think you can make a very good life for yourself.

If it is one of those 3 then you'll definitely have to shop around, hunt and compare, possibly make concessions on what you want.

Not too familiar with Cali.

I would say cut expenses at first. Start with the minimum...

Internet for your job... Dont need cable.

Budget budget budget.

Try to move close to work to save on the commute.

Cop furniture slowly. I slept on an air mattress for 6 months.

Your yamb rate will double just cuz you a young dude getting it.

44k a year is better than most

Hunt for the best place to live. Look for homeowners who just bought a new home and not trying to sell their 1st home. They will be happy to rent it out. Generally, homeowners need to pay taxes and special landlord fees. So talk it out and work something where they would be renting it out to you on the low low, for the low low. Newlywed couples might be a good target. Mainly because each party may already own a home. When they move in together, a home will be vacant.

Craigslist got furniture

Get a members card for for your grocery store. A lot of stores have gas rewards when you shop. You can save up to $2 a gallon.

**** cable. Use Netflix. **** paying for Netflix, borrow your mans log in information

Buy groceries and gas Biweekly. That way you can deduct it as soon as you get your check.

Don't spend money on "going out" for your 1st 6 months. Stack that Guap

Buy your household items from Costco or BJs. Paper towel, soaps Etc

yo **** cable netflix etc all you need is internet

and amazon prime instant streaming!

-Live close to work AND close to where bars/clubs are. You don't want to drive far to work and you don't want to blow money on cabs or get a DUI b/c you're drunk.
-Don't get internet until you're sure that your neighbor doesn't have wifi w/o a password
-Start dieting/eating healthy and learn how to cook. So much cheaper than eating out
-Your rent should be about 1 weeks salary
-I always do a 6 month lease. You never know how good a place is until you actually move in
-If you do roomates choose wisely! I'm talking background checks, facebook stalking, etc. There's so many weirdos in the world. Nothing worse than busting your *** at work then coming home to someone you hate.

Good luck fam

Not sure of your situation, but Im gonna assume that you are single, no kids, and young, so with that being said 44k salary living on your own shouldnt be too terrible. But Im not advising you to just ball out. If youre getting an apartment, get something thats not gonna hurt you too much. Like other have said, just get internet. Try to keep your utility bills low, so cable isnt a must unless your like some sports nut, cuz majority of your favorite shows can be accessed through netflix/hulu the next day. and just spend wisely. I know people who have moved out making way less and they arent dead lol so you should be okay. Congrats and best of luck!

like everybody else said

internet no cable
go grocery shopping twice a month
learn to cook
if single only allow chicks to come to yo crib that brings things over
unplug everything when you leave the house unless you a tech junkie

you should be good

Not sure how the prices are in Santa Barbara, but out here 44k will have you living very comfortably

OK what about me? Getting about 50 a year (never thought 20+ an hr would only calculate to 50 but whatever. ). BUT I live in NYC.... I think I need more help than previously mentioned tips ....

Halp!

Whatever you do from experience, on that salary do NOT move in with a girlfriend. When you eventually break up you'll be stressing out.

44k can def make it in most midwest cities. I know from experience.

Like they said cut the cable tho. There really is no point in cable during this day and age anyways. Peep the Cut the Cord thread.

This, and what has been said cable is a complete waste of money which is why these companies like the bundle that ish.

I'm making about 63k and have to move into my own place really soon, but I work in DC so it's going to cost a fortune because I need to live close to a metro for weekend action and playing for safety is top priority.

I lived in Seattle making 42k and it worked. Had my own studio, cable TV (eventually cut HBO). Wasn't bad but I completely managed. I wasted to much on over priced groceries though, learn how to shop for quality foods at low prices! Trader Joe's and such, get a membership.

Like somebody said, learn how to cook. Or in my cause learn how to cook better so you enjoy what your actually eating. I prep my breakfast and lunches daily currently just because I work in a dangerous area and the food choices are unhealthy.

1. Learn how to cook

2. Break down ALL of your expenses and determine how much disposable income you have

3. Set up automatic transfer from checking to savings that coincides with your paycheck

4. If you get paid bi-weekly there will be two months out of the year that you get three paychecks. Use this money for splurging on something you like (new clothes, tv, vacation, etc.)

5. Contribute to your company's max 401k contribution; mine matches up to 4% so I put 4% into it

6. No cable - Netflix/Amazon Prime have just about everything

7. Don't go out as much - alcohol at bars is ridiculously expensive

8. Do not upgrade your lifestyle if you get a pay increase

9. Move close to work - the days of going out during the week are likely over; you can hang out with friends on the weekend (except for Saturday mornings of course

Good luck. I work in Georgetown and was living in a studio for $1800 a month with utilities. #!%^ that. Moved home to save to buy. Rent is ridic

Get a roommate.

I know, nothing sours the feeling of independence of just getting out of your parents' house like sharing space with someone else, but the savings are incredible when you cut all your monthly expenses (electricity, internet, rent) in half.

Hmm that is Georgetown though, probably the highest rent in the city but your right I live with my bro right now so no rent but that coming to a end. Either thinking about silver spring studio basement or something for 1k. If not I'm moving back west, rent in DC is insane.
