Just got back from Dubai, Emirates live... vol 56k warning, srs

Thanks man. I'd avoid going in the summer since its extremely hot there. The first few days were in the 100s. I remember feeling like a cramp was coming on. Any time before June and after September is fine my boy told me.
Didn't even think about the weather, thanks for the tip.

If you don't mind me asking, you stayed for a week and spent about $2k for flight, food, hotel, etc?

Hotel wasn't included since my homeboy stays in Abu Dhabi.

This is the Holiday Inn posted on the first page.

It'll give you an idea of costs.

Damn amazing pics bro, they do it big there it looks like. I feel like I would be worried about visiting over there.

Sounds like a good *** time though

For anybody thats looking to go I recommend going Nov-March. I went towards the end of October last year and the weather wasnt too bad.

Agreed 100% - summer heat breaks early-October. Definitely would not suggest going in the summer time. Was there for 4 years (came to London last year) , if anyone has any Qs, feel free to holla.

Dope. That's a hell of a Holiday Inn.

Did you eat at Texas Chicken? Isn't that the Church's Chicken logo? Are they one in the same?

Been living in the UAE for 2 years now. Me and my wife are teachers here. The UAE isn't really as strict on "traditional customs" as say a place like Saudi. Especially in dubai and abu dhabi where its so many expats. Really expats make up like 80% of the country. Im based in al ain which is like the boonies when compared to DXB or AD as far as pace and people but it's still not bad. I will say that this country REALLY takes care of its citizens. Those with an emirati passport get a check equivalent to about 3k USD a month just for being a citizen. Govt also gives them money to build a home (which is generally a compound with enough housing for multiple members of same family) and gives them money for having children amongst other things. Also because there is nothing like a credit score here its really easy for natural citizens and western expats to get credit cards and loans with high limits. In my years here i've never had to get off the elevator because a woman was getting on. The UAE is probably the most liberal and westernised country in the middle east. As long as you have money or a european or blue passport you'll be treated nicely lol.

Also were you able to check out the burj khalifa? Gives a wonderful view of the city.

As far as the slave labor is concerned its really terrible how they are brought over here and lied too about wages and how they keep their passport until they are basically done with them. Many filipinos and afircans (mainly eithoipans) are nannies and from what I hear are treated horribly by the emirate and other arab people here. They feel like getting a western family is hitting the jackpot. My family has an eithopian nanny. We pay her 2k dirham a month (just under 550 USD). A Jordanian teacher at my school said that we were overpaying her extremely lol (said eithopians are the lowest paid nannies and that its even a law capping how much they can make a month but i'm not sure if thats true). Said his family also has 2 filipino nannies that he pays 1k dirham each a month to.  Our nanny lives with us. Cooks (when we ask), cleans, and helps with the baby. No way we'd get anything like that back in the states for that price. Heck daycare alone would cost more than that a month. She's been a godsend and has become a member of our family basically. Even though the men and women are separated in basically everything they do, they still have access to western life and definitely try to live it after about 10pm lol. They know how to party and basically enjoy their money.

To the guy who mentioned The York.....lol a few teachers i know here go out there occasionally and it's def like the OP said, flys on honey. You can basically have your pick of the litter if you so chose. I've never paid for it, but i will go and get a drink and some laughs for a good time.

^wow great insight on what it's like over there. Giving citizens money just by having an emirati passport :wow:. Is the cost of living high over there compared to the states?

Will watch this when I have time. The world islands got me like :wow: Are they even done building all of them? Project was started years ago.

U uaekickz - While I was there there was a story about an Ethiopian nanny who killed the kids of the family she was living with because they weren't paying her.

-Didn't get a chance to go in the Burj Khalifa. I didn't realize I needed to purchase tickets weeks in advance. Tickets weren't going to be available until about a week after I left.

-My boy told me a lot of people who aren't from there will get huge loans then bounce, lol smh

-Are you still into kicks still? If so, where do you cop and how are the prices compared to the States? I went to the Dubai Mall's Footlocker and saw foams for 1019 AED. Thought I was gonna cop up til I did the conversion.

@DaBottom305  Yeah I remember reading that story about the nanny. Also, you'd think this country had the best narcotics team in the world if you read some of the stories printed in the paper about how they catch "drug dealers/smugglers". it's gotten to the point where i think a lot of the stories are made up just to scare or intimidate the people here because i've gotten quite a few quarters in from trips back home no problem lol (shhh).

Yeah i know of about 5 teachers personally that got loans and credit cards and dipped. A couple of them racked up about 175k USD off loans and cards so i halfway couldn't blame them. Plus the only repercussion is you can't go to a GCC country which I'm sure for most of them won't be an issue lol.

Yeah im in to kicks. the prices here are crazy. The dubai mall has a nike store and footlocker that see lines for jordans reminiscent of the states lol. Because shoes aren't as popular here as back home they usually sit. The BHM and all star collections are still sitting around here is FSR basically. I've found a few spots in Abu Dhabi at marina mall and the abu dhabi mall downtown that always have stock and will usually put the shoes on sale after a while. I usually wait till the price is around retail back in the states and scoop.

@yanky the cost of living is about the same as where I'm from (Atlanta). I drive an Armada and fill up on about $35 USD lol. Don't have to pay for housing so thats a bonus. Food in grocery store is about the same price as back home.

Man... The more I read about Dubai the more im thinking of getting out there when I graduate.

Gotta make a trip before then.

Thread necro, sorry bruhs
