Fast food workers protest for $15 minimum wage.

The problem with these employees is that they are replaceable. You can't make demands when there are 10 other people that will do your job for the same or less money then what you are getting paid. As mentioned before, no applied skill if they want more learn how to do something that already pays $15/hr or better.

Are you talking about the rule or the exception?  I'm not saying fast food shouldn't exist or EVERYONE who relies on it is lazy...I said most, which while there is no evidence, I believe to be true.  I'd put money on it that if you were to survey every person coming out of a McDonald's parking lot, the majority would not be 2 hours away from home or up since 6am, just getting around to dinner at 10pm (because of work), etc.  The option should be available to people.  I'm not debating that.  But be realistic, is that **** food really a need?  You seem like you're taking it way too personal.
when I brought up time value it was met with "nah ppl just lazy"... grouping every fast food customer into one bucket...

as if the exceptions are so rare.. athletes eat the hell out of some fast food

I take it personal when ppl call parents that grid day in n day out lazy.. yes... esp single working parents
Go back and reread what I wrote and focus on the word MOST first, then read the rest.  Then read the part where my response to the time value aspect and that I doubt most people are choosing greasy, fatty food and soda over something like grilled chicken and roasted potatoes because of the time saved.  I also never said everyone eating at McDonald's is lazy but it's my belief that a significant amount of it comes from that.  You just took it as "nah ppl just lazy" because it fit what you wanted to argue.

Like I said, it was never personal but you seemed to take it that way and look at what I said irrationally.  And yes, the exceptions are rare in the grand scheme of things?  Those people who are 2 hours from home, worked til 10...and now athletes???  C'mon, you're grasping.  Nothing I said was directed towards single parents or anyone grinding so don't put words in MY mouth.  You can argue that with someone else until I say parents have to cook meals for their kids despite working all day or something like that.

You dont think the guy who flips your burger should make x amount of dollars but the guys who put balls in hoops is entitled to millions...makes sense
you want to camp out with me when the Nike Air Burger Boy quickstrike drops?

I say raise the wage to $15 and raise the standards for the employees as well, otherwise go ahead and automate the job then fire everybody.

You bring up a good point. Why do such and such type people work at places like McDonald's? Because the pay is ****.

If they do this, the restaraunt will have to charge more for their food which will impact consumers who did not recieve a raise. Also, are all other employees that are making minimum wage getting raises too or just fast food workers?

The inflation argument has little ground imo.

Costco is flourishing, I mentioned in n out earlier being cheaper then McDonalds while offering a better product, shake shack is expanding. I can look up other companies but the prices at these establishments are reasonable and employee turnover isn't nearly as bad as it is at a place like McDonalds.

They can play the employees more but choose not to.

And just if it were the case regarding inflation , I wouldn't mind paying a little extra if it meant better employees and better attitude from them. Most them employees look dead miserable and it shows with how the stores are ran.

I'm clearly playing devil's advocate.  Raise the prices skyhigh for all I care, the food is garbage.

I don't really understand the logic of dudes being critical of folks with degrees and professional jobs that aren't making a ton of money.  You say, if you're educated and underpaid, you're doing it wrong and should find a new job.  It's just as easy to tell the burger flippers to deal with it and find a higher paying job.

You got all the time in the world to protest for a wage that isn't justifiable for your job at McDonald's, but don't have the time to look for something better?

^ this topic is about McDonald's employees. Raising minimum wage is not what's being discussed.
I know that wasn't the topic, but its a valid question. If they raise the wages for McDonalds workers then why shouldn't others in similar situations not demand a raise?

You are in the minority, people go to McDonalds for a quick , cheap bite to eat. If they are concerned with customer service they will go to a better establishment. Why would a company choose to pay an employee more just because they have the money to do it? Do you go to buy a car and the dealer asks for $20,000 and because you are approved for $30,000 you hand it over?

^ I didn't intend to shoot your question down. I just meant that people are talking about a raise for McDonald's employees, not min wage. Do they have to raise both if they do for mcd's workers? No. Should they demand? Sure why not

You don't know that. People on NT aren't the only ones complaining about MCDonalds turning to ****. People would pay a little more to get better quality food.

McDonald's won't raise their pay unless the national minimum wage rate increases. They're far and away the largest fast food restaurant franchise in America with something like a 4:1 ratio to the next closest competitor. That's a substantial amount of employee wages to increase, and you can bet nothing short of the government itself would make them budge.

But I never said anything about quality of food... I think you are referring to someone else. What I said was, people that go to McDonalds aren't going there because of the customer service, they are going there for a quick cheap bite. How would raising their wages = better quality food ?

At the end of the day I think most people would pay a little extra for quality.

Go to any McDonald's, most employees don't give a damn about service, quality of the food, cleanliness of the restaurant etc. employees just do the bare minimum because they have no pride in that job. Employee turnover is bad.

I can only speak around my way, but most the McDonald's are usually empty or it's not that much traffic in them but when I go to in n out, the drive thru like is fully packed and the lines inside are usually full and I've seen some of the same employees up there for a while.

At the end of the day though the inflation argument is a myth. When numerous costcos or in n outs start closing down, it may have some merit.

Yeah you'll never find an in n out that isn't packed from open to close

Or a Costco that's not super friendly and willing to help. ScroogeMcBuckz ScroogeMcBuckz is correct, it's going to come from the government to make the minimum wage to go up, because minimum wage is basically saying if I could pay you less, I would.

How would paying the employees equate to higher quality in food, isn't that dependent on the meat and condiments McDonalds buys? And as for the cleanliness and service, as mentioned before is that number 1 on the list for most patrons visiting McDonalds? If you answer yes then you are wrong. Look up financial data, McDonalds does the best when the American economy is down, and that is because you can eat there for cheap. Basically what you are proposing is for McDonalds change their whole image/business plan...

I pray that Atlanta is blessed with in n out some day.

I don't gain any weight from anything so I could & would eat it 7 days a week :smokin

Regarding quality of food. The food is crap regardless but its not uncommon for the fries to be sitting there for hours or the burgers to taste like their old as hell. Like I said, the employees could care less. Its flies and all sticky and messy around the soda machine area, tables are dirty etc.

They've been changing up their image over the years as well. Look at all the "healthly" menu items they've implemented in recent years due to society becoming more health conscious.

Back to McDonalds though, or any job in general when you have employees that don't care and numerous amounts of them, its a potential problem for the company. Each of those employees regardless of how little they make is a representation of the company. F their rude or disrespectful or do something they shouldn't, they make the company look bad.

I'm not letting the employees be blameless either though. Some people don't do nothing whatsoever to better themselves, do things which hurt them in the long run like have numerous kids at a point in their life where their not best suited to have kids or try to have a plan b to support themselves and they make their hardships even more difficult but at the end of the day $7.25 per hour is just an unreasonable wage, especially in a country like Murcia.

$10.00 needs to be the minimum. That's fair. I don't see how that can argued.
