Fast food workers protest for $15 minimum wage.

"Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires."

It's pretty amazing how the extremely wealthy have the peasants fighting on their behalf.

get out of here with the john steinbeck quote. we've been embracing facism/socialism for over 100 years and that is what makes the rich insanely rich.

"I guess the trouble was that we didn’t have any self-admitted proletarians. Everyone was a temporarily embarrassed capitalist. Maybe the Communists so closely questioned by the investigation committees were a danger to America, but the ones I knew—at least they claimed to be Communists—couldn’t have disrupted a Sunday-school picnic. Besides they were too busy fighting among themselves."

For one, you make money off of the amount of customers you get, not on the amount of hamburgers one can make in an hour. Two, to solve that problem he laid out after raising minimum wage, you simply raise prices to make up for it. But then again, people act as if you raise the minimum wage a little, their big Mac is gonna cost $15 bucks now :rolleyes

ppl fail to realize that due to inflation change of times etc... that the current minimum wage is actually lower then minimum wage... I forget the exact figures but for the past 30 yrs prices etc... have gone upwards to 300% whereas minimum wage has moved up 20%

minimum wage is far below today then it was in the 60's 70's.... in other words cost/manufacturing cost etc... have pretty much stayed the same over the past few decades while prices have skyrocketed and wages have remained stagnant

last time i checked, a near 100% increase on labor expense is a BIG deal.

people always fail to understand that the cause of these problems comes from government. we got off the gold standard and this is the result of it. minimum wage was a dollar an hour in the 60s and people had an avg family of four, house/car notes with 1 person working.

but still wages and cost should coincide with the times and cost... and they have not. even if you don't include minimum wage jobs... most jobs today ppl are being paid lower then what they would have been paid 30 40 yrs ago...

Cost are pretty much on point with what they would have been 30 40 yrs ago... but prices are being jacked up. So in short... ppl are being paid less for same job today then 30 40 yrs ago... Cost are lower, and prices are higher. And somehow ppl are ok with this?

Im self employed and hopefully never have to work a job again in life and im disgusted by this, I don't see how ppl are ok with making 20 an hr when you should be making 30... I mean I get it ppl like hell whats the big deal im still paid and can afford what I want... but its a little different when your being paid 8 and you should be making 12/13. That gap is the difference for some ppl/families between keeping lights on...or paying one bill versus the other, or skipping meals.

Damn, milk was expensive as hell back in the day. That would be the equivalent of being $20 a gallon now.
yep milk sugar flour spices always was high...I think it was late 70's early 80's when the big inflation price increase occurred and those items were the first to make a jump...basically doubled in cost overnight.

Just put all the politicians on minimum wage and you'll see how fast and how high they raise the minimum wage. The Swedes are trying to raise their minimum wage to $24 . Yes that's right $24 dollars an hour.
And people better start staying the hell away from McDeath if they want to live longer. That stuff is not pure beef.

most of it has to deal with supply and demand. this is why people in specialized fields are getting paid more than a fast food worker.

real minimum wage like thomas sowell points out is always ZERO.

Absolutely correct sir. We'll said!

Why are all talking about inflation? If the bottom workers got paid more the higher ups will be the ones making less money. The money isn't coming from nowhere. And if you asked me, I wouldn't mind if the higher ups got paid less. They're set regardless

Agree. Just look at how much CEO's salaries have increased at an astronomical rate over the last 15-20 years. It's almost mind boggling. And they expect to cut salaries and send jobs overseas to sustain these exorbitant salaries and lifestyles. Meanwhile we are fed a bunch of BS to believe that one day we too, will become rich movie stars and rap stars, rock stars, etc. so that we sympathize with these criminals.. Time to wake up folks!

I mean, it's easy to say this when you're on the bottom and it won't hurt your pockets. How would you feel if a higher up told you that the company you work for decided to pay the workers at the bottom a few dollars more and those few dollars are coming out directly from your hourly wage?

you cant compare a employee who shows up to work and CEO that risked his money and credit to build.maintain a business. learn from them and build your own business if you want to compare
