Fast food workers protest for $15 minimum wage.

so we actually have supporters in here...............ok

listen end of the day it doesnt matter

if that actually happened, which we all know it wont.....

everybody else would deserve an increase.............an then da hemi would just rise with everything else

"You think people who are making $15 per hour right now are just gonna sit around and watch as the girl at the drive thru all the sudden gets double what shes currently making? "

so people are going to quit their jobs because mcdonalds workers are making more than before?

What makes any of think you should be able to say how much someone deserves to make?

I dont understand how because you dont think you can walk up to your boss and ask for more money they shouldnt be able to

everything around us goes up daily CEO's and execs make more and more meanwhile the people doing the real work are at a stand still
and these same big wigs have people convinced that if the working man makes more prices have to go up when in reality thats only because they refuse to take any less but thats fine by most of you right?

but if the guy working at mcdonalds thinks he should make more he needs to just find a new job( as easy as that is )

and like someone said if these same people said **** it i'll just get on food stamps etc you'd still be wagging your fingers at them

really what do you think they should do?

Not addressing anyone in particular with this, but I've always found that places that pay their workers better tend to be better consumer experiences.  At In N Out they start at $10/hr with benefits.  And you can feel the difference in service there vs. say Burger King, where workers don't make ****.  Personally I'd rather pay a little more for In N Out, where I'm getting better quality ingredients and better service even though it costs a little more.

"commensurate"

kind of a big word for fast food workers though

this is what i mean looking down on a group of people based on what?

you have no idea whta these people have been thru or what their level of education is but throw around blanket statements trying to belittle people

and for dude who ask yes mcdonalds hires felons

thats another thing these same dudes trying to actually do right by getting a job at mcdonalds or walmart or wherever could be out on the streets going upside someones head but nah lets not make this a job where someone can actually make a decent living what benefits would that have right?

@CashBanks

I didn't say those people would quit their jobs, I think they would demand more money as a result.

There would be a ripple effect from Min wage jumping to $15 per hour.  You can get a min wage job at age 14... Why would a 20-30 something that's been working for years at their craft or in their industry sit around and not demand more if that's the case?

If min wage was increased only a couple-few dollars, it would go generally unnoticed and it would still be an advantage to those workers... But if you're trying to DOUBLE the wages of the entire min wage workforce?  Not so much retail prices will reflect the change and everyone else up to a certain point will be demanding pay raises to reflect the work they've put in to get where they are.

CashBanks

ok man............i get it an yes you make some points

like i said its a double whammy, an like someone else said the dominio effect would be too severe

actual LINE COOKS dont even start at 15 at many places an it takes more skill than McDs. 10-12 bucks for line cook/prep person

so what youre telling me is you def support this movement? 15 an hour to work at mcDs.............you realize some CNAs dont even make that? An that job is a lot more harder an put of with way more BS an actually have to have some knowledge............

across the board everyone would deserve more then..........like are you for real?

double whammy. maybe EDUCATION needs to be more in reach or programs for ppl to gather working skills in America.

If its the type of job that someone without much education or skill can simply walk into then you dont deserve to be making much for a job like that. $15 per hour is at least half decent generally speaking.

my manager told me this - This company doesnt owe you a living, I dont owe you a living , the world doesn't owe you a living, - if you want it, you have to go out and earn it You're here because you are the best at what you do, thats why we hired you.  The world doesnt owe you anything.

so true

This argument should have ended on page 1.

It's pretty clear the employee population at McDonalds is generally uneducated, unmotivated, or just plain unfortunate.

If you want to make real money, GET A CAREER, not just a pt job.

Minimum wage is for minimum skill. If I can teach 6th grade Freddy to put a cup under a Coke dispenser and press a button then ima only pay him $7.25 if that's what I'm legally required to do.

But do they pay you like you're the best ........ All these little slogans, statements and saying sound nice one paper but greatly lack a sense of reality...

Dudes in here talking about attending a for profit University so you can be 50 grand in debt only to find out your desired career has been shipped overseas. Then you have trades, best believe that the male non felon fast food and retail workers that aren't in college do learn trades (even though trade school is just as expensive as these for profit colleges) do you see what's happening to the trade workers once they hit their 50s with no union and only shutdown work available .............

It's not even like they're asking to be rich or middle class working at McDonald's all they want is a living wage

These are systematic issues that the Walmart, McDonald's etc workers are protesting against that doesn't only affect them ie fast food and retail workers or "unskilled workers" but also skilled labor that's currently being undercut but continue telling the McDonald's cashier to know their place, while you're struggling with them too

Also the economics that Drones posted about is just the tip of the iceberg. There's an economic cycle that a healthy capitalist nation follows, that corporations have been undercutting for decades. They've used cheap Chinese manufacturing to undercut the rise in wages that is suppose to occur to alleviate a period of surplus and spur on a period of boom.

No one is addressing why there is a surplus of unskilled workers, what happened to the trades they used to occupy, the skills and trades they would learn .......

I worked at McDonald's when I was 16. It actually was kinda hard. You had an 8 hour shift standing up the entire time, carrying 30 pound boxes, cleaning whole restaurants, taking out the trash, breaking dozens of boxes down and that's not even the food stuff. It's not like you just "flip burgers " all day. And I was getting like 7h hour for that. Granted that was 7 years ago. So I'm all for billion dollar corporations not paying their employees scraps

'Merica. So don't complain when the social services go through the roof when these jobs don't provide a living wage. Or complain that people are "living off the system" when people work 40+ hrs and still qualify for assistance. Last I checked these people are working and not "asking" for anything also paying taxes.

Asking for a $15hr wage is nothing but a negotiation tactic.

It's not really about skill as much as how easily you can be replaced working in fast food. If you don't like the pay, quit. They'll find someone to replace you in a day for the same or less pay.

i worked there when i was 16 years old for a month an a half

that short time alone should motivate ANYONE to do better in life

btw im a college drop out if it matters

all comes down to the individual

nobody owes me anything, btw ive worked bare minimum jobs before during my toughest times side by side with folks who didnt even speak english from a BS temp agency

you cant afford life, dont have kids

you got a crappy job, make yourself better

WHat is minimum wage in other countries in comparison to the US?

Seriously, look at what McDonald's employees in Germany get. You'll be shocked, but as long as people love the rich in this country they'll fight their fellow man for scraps.

It's not as simple as if you want better pay, get a better job. It's too much part time work, not enough full time. There should be no reason that a 17 year old has to compete with older folks for a McDonalds type job.

That's everywhere, talk to people who are in "skilled" labor. Previous generations have been sold a bill of goods, and now we're feeling the effects.of it. So working class should be scared to except whatever scraps because you're easily replaced? Sad way of life honestly.
