Anyone a Sports Agent or studies Sports Management?

I got my degree in Sport Management and currently work for a sport technology company. What do you want to know?

One thing I experienced though is that most people do this major wanting to be an agent, but 99% who finish do not become agents.

Curious to hear more about your sports technology company and what they do if you don't mind.

I have a degree in electrical engineering but don't really like what I do so I may try to make a transition soon. I have considered going to get a sports management degree but am unsure at this time. I know engineers can find jobs in sports technology but typically they are computer and mechanical (I think). Do you know if any electrical engineers work for your company?

Thanks.

I am interested in learning what opportunities one has with a sports management degree since my brother wants to major in it

Completly agree with that last point. People dont understand how tough it is becomg a sports agent. Its like hollywood barriers tough

Two good friends majored in it. One is a JCC director, one is unemployed. I probably would've been one as well but transferred schools

Just graduated with a Sports Management degree...decided to go more towards the sports media route though.

Currently in hospitality management... My school just started offering a couple courses in sports management though and I would have loved to major in it.

Essentially I would love to bridge the two together and somehow get into revenue management / facility(arena) management / executive suite management (don't know how the money is in that though)

Money is decent decent depending on your market, I know a girl who works at MetLife and she basically oversees the ushers and makes around 60-70 a year with her boss pulling in over 100k.

after a sports management degree, don't you have to go to law school if you want to be an agent?

Not necessarily. You can also have a MBA and work in the field as well.

Guy I know real well doesn't have a law degree, but has his undergrad in Economics and later got his MBA.

You can be used FIBA agent with a BA. But there are a ton of opportunities in sports with pretty much any degree. Seek out your desired company and find the position that fits you best, show your interest in the sports and you can definitely advance.

Got my bachelors and masters in Sports Management. There are opportunities in the field but definitely not as many as some other industries. Have to intern, have to network, very likely that things don't break your way early on.

I'm currently a Sports Manager for a non profit sports and fitness center in Manhattan, started out as a Program Assistant (Admin) for the Sports and Aquatics dept. before getting bumped up.

I am curious to hear more about what sport technology companies are about too. I have a BSME and currently working in a consumer electronics company, want to try something else. Was thinking about looking into bio-mechanical engineering, but haven't looked into the options.

Not necessarily. Having a law degree has more open door opportunities where you can represent yourself without hiring an attorney for your client negotiations. It's not required but it will look good on your resume and will attract more potential clients giving you a much better shot at winning those clientele parties over someone who doesn't have a law degree.

-Anyone heard of sportsmanagementworldwide.com(smww)? Reading more up on it and a friend says he knew a few guys who graduated from there and says it's pretty legit but wanted to see if any of you guys had experiences with them as well.

Man I find sports technology and data analysis absolutely fascinating.

American pro sports seems to be behind the curve but the technology they're implementing and the kind of analysis they're doing in soccer over in Europe and here in the U.S. is amazing.

So hard to find detailed information on the inner workings of the industry though.  I looked into Opta Sports a few years ago but it seemed like most of the sports data companies were really only looking for quant guys.
