The RETRO Gaming Thread!

I remember all the N64 game were so expensive

I finally got Mario 64 when it was a million seller or something and it dropped to like $50

It was the memory on the cartridges that made 'em so damn expensive.

On a side note the profit margins on the NES 8bit cartridges must have been ridiculous. The 'development/QA' teams back in those days were only about 1-5 people max. No wonder there was so much 'shovel-ware' for the system.

it's not made for gamers

if you're into games you prolly have a Wii or Wii U with virtual console and have these games already or have the og systems and games already

the mini is pointless to me

They are cashing in on the retro gaming craze - but you're right about the device. Purists will want the OG hardware with an upscaler (XRGB Mini or OSSC) while the casual gamers may have already got the games on Wii or Wii U.

This device exits for those that will play the games for about 5 minutes max and toss the device to the back of their closet or Kijiji/Craig's List.

^ Pretty cool, but those 30 games are all it will ever have. Nintendo has said that they won't offer any other games or expanded storage options to add your own games.

Dumb move by Nintendo

You're paying $2/game for the NES Classic. It's not a bad deal at all. I wouldn't buy one for myself, but I'd buy one for a friend.

I've been thinking about selling 95% of my games and cashing in while prices are ridiculous.

743 NES games

708 different titles

46 away from a full licensed AND unlicensed set.

214 SNES games

VGPC value is 18.4K

I probably have 3-4K invested

I'd keep all my accessories, systems and system boxes. Invest in my other hobby and throw some $$ in the bank. I could always build back up in the future if I regretted it.

A few months ago I sold all my N64 and Genesis (200+ games each) because I never played them and I don't regret it at all, but NES and SNES is what I grew up on and I do play certain games often..

Someones going to eventually mod it somehow.
Unless you want to desolder flash memory from the motherboard, looks like it's impossible to add new games to NES Classic. pic.twitter.com/jc99WSrNJj

Hoping I can get to the target up the street and pick one up with a extra controller when they open.

I've seen you guys mention the Wii as a way to play n64 games. How does this work?

seems it will also be a pre-loaded console with these games available: ....but og cartridges will also work :nthat:

ALEX KIDD
ALIEN STORM
ALTERED BEAST
ARROW FLASH
BONANZA BROTHERS
COLUMNS
DECAP ATTACK
E-SWAT
FATAL LABYRINTH

GAIN GROUND
GOLDEN AXE
GOLDEN AXE 3
JEWEL MASTER
KID CHAMELEON

Pretty sure I read that Nintendo has no plans to release a pre-loaded SNES (even if NES sales are a hit). Really hope that changes.

That's a bummer, because I'm that would be an immediate hit for Nintendo.

NES Classic is releasing on Amazon at 2pm tomorrow.

Scared I'll strike out there...I struck out trying to buy a basic learning toy for my daughter during the first Amazon day.

I'm too much of a minimalist for the NES classic and like all my retro games consolidated on a single piece of hardware. Seems like it's more about having/collecting it than it is playing it.

^Yeah, basically for the nostalgia of it.

I debating if I should really try to get in line tomorrow. Yeah, it would be awesome to be able to play these classic games...but at the same time, I could be at home catching up on sleep.

Same. I'm looking to build a pc just for this purpose.

don't think theres anything wrong with the collecting aspect either. its a cool little thing to have. I'm a broke student living at my parents crib

and when I go away for school I won't have much more space, so my decision making might be different from someone that has the funds and space.

After watching the unboxing videos of the mini NES I def. think I'll play it. Sure you would want more games but this one (for me) has enough from my childhood that I would have fun playing again. Hopefully more than one time

I'm hoping I'll be able to cop a used one at a discount so I can gut it and toss the insides, then put my Raspberry Pi in it .

You could probably find a broken NES online for cheaper and do the same.

Edit: nevermind just thought of hdmi support
