Macklemore is Done!!!!

Everyone does do it, connections and affiliations is how you get on

Current rap has to be the easiest thing to mimic because they don't say anything, go listen to the hiphop station in your city for two hours straight and tell me what you think

It's just not that hard to believe white kids can get intertwined with black culture IMO maybe back in the day Em before the internet existed went to underground rap battles to get into the culture. It's the digital era we really faulting kids for learning and getting interested in something online?

What y'all think about Mac Miller?

No, not every white rapper is a culture vulture.

Macklemore is a bad rapper but he is not a culture vulture.

He undeservedly won best Rap Album over Kendrick Lamar's "GKMC" and as a result caught a lot of flak, but no he's not a culture vulture.

Post Malone & Slim Jesus are culture vultures. For sure. They don't really live the life they portray nor do they have a proper understanding or appreciation of the culture they're hijacking.

Rappers like Action Bronson & EL-P aren't culture vultures (though the former is guilty of overstepping his boundaries and not giving credit where it's due in regards to his comments about GFK on ESPN's Sportsnation) as they're well versed in the history of hip-hop and it's apparent in their subject matter.

In other words, you can discern quality and authenticity from posers and hijackers. The proof is in the proverbial pudding so to speak.

Broke it down perfect.

Action Bronson is the only white rapper I pay attention to nowadays. just can't get into the rest of 'em.

Mac acknowledged his white priv before and talked about how it got him where he is, and how it used to eat at him because he knew why he was getting the opportunities he was getting early on (when he first started touring colleges) and how he didn't want it to come that easily.

He put out his first project at 15 and has been grinding ever since to get where he is. And can actually spit and is self taught on multiple instruments which doesn't hurt his cause. Dude is actually talented and dedicated, son dropped out of school to rap

Macs cool with me. That's just me though.

I generally dislike Maclemore's music but I appreciate his socially conscious efforts and respect to hiphop culture.
I couldn't stand listening to that Same Love song for example but it has a great message and it's good that an artist with such mass appeal is spreading that message.
Same goes for this new song. I don't like the song personally but he brings up some interesting points. Points that some of his fanbase, who I presume is mostly white, probably wouldn't think or talk about if not for that song.
And that's a good thing, whether I like the music or not.

Logic is that dude though :smokin

I used to not like Post Malone because he looks like a white dude who just swiped the whole "white dude being ironic with golds, braids and dipset/pac shirts" aesthetic from tumblr.

But as he puts out more music, he's kind of in his own lane. Don't even really consider him a rapper.

Honestly, that's how he came into the game. With that mindset. I think somewhere along the way, he actually is finding a love for this music....and starting to take it seriously.

I wonder if this is how they treated Charlie Pride for singing country music

Charlie pride had love for the music, as previously mentioned post Malone saw it on tumbler and transformed. Look at those old videos up there :smh:

If y'all giving that a pass then give iggy a pass too

Bro all I'm asking is what is wrong with seeing something on the internet these days, liking it, and wanting to do it? He's like 20 years old, he grew up with the internet. Decades ago we got influenced by what we saw outside, these kids live on the computer. If you not born out the womb exposed to a certain culture you can't later on get exposed and find interest in it?

The difference between him and Iggy is their response to the culture vulture questions. Iggy tries to insult us like she been a rap head all her life in Australia. Post Malone said I liked it so I wanted to try it he doesn't feed us bulls*** like he was listening to Nas and Mobb Deep at his bar mitzvah. Maybe it's just me but that seems much more honest and respectable.

Not to mention it's clear he has some type of talent and Iggy songs be trash

I think you're proving his point more than making your own point. What you just described is the perfect example of a person capitalizing off of something they see as popular.

plies  > future > ciara > russell wilson and the trash seahawks lmao

But what's the point? That kids follow trends? That you can only follow a trend as long as you don't profit from it? I watched a few of his interviews and he said he write and produced his own music. Just from that video someone posted of dude playing the guitar he has some type of musical talent.

That's a hell of a lot different than Iggy specifically being hired to replicate a rapper. She doesn't write her own music, she doesn't have her own sound, she doesn't have anything

Idk but I think calling every white person that is intrigued by our culture a culture vulture is childish as hell.

So if I am a nerd and am not about ANY life other than marine life and I decide to become a rapper, that's cool as long as I am black?
