You answered your own question champ.  The high school is predominately Native American, as I understand it the name ******* was created by Native Americans, particularly during battle times.............

The problem at it pertains to your beloved Washington Diplomats is that team's name was given by a racist owner at the time George Preston Marshall that certainly didn't care about Native Americans and certainly didn't care about black people.  George Preston Marshall was not trying to champion the fight, struggle, and cause of Native Americans when he gave Washington that name, he was mocking the Native American community.  If for whatever reason Red Mesa high school (predominately Native American as you correctly stated) wants to call themselves by that nickname then so be it.  It certainly is not the call of a racist owner to name a football team by that name, nor is it appropriate for that name to continued to be used and mocked by that team to this very day....................and it's fanbase.

I just don't understand how somebody can sit there and listen to a rapper Say ***** in damn near every one of his songs but has a problem with a team name. That **** just don't add up to me. Yes I'm talking to the guy with Jay- Z in his avy.

As far as the name change it's not happening anytime soon. And I hope Danny holds strong. 60+ years. *****. And that's how I feel about it.

A racial Slur is a Racial Slur that's how I see it. You can't use the N word everyday and decide you have a problem with ********. There is no halfway with this. You can't pick and choose when to be noble. You're either against racial slurs or your not.

I'm 30 years old and only heard the word ******** when it's used for the football team. It's not used in everyday conversations.

In 1937 if they wanted to name the team the Washington N word would they have let them? How about the Washington Jews? Or the Washington Wet backs? Would any if those been allowed? How did ******** slip through?

Deuce King is the one who informed us about the origin of the team's name. Not Dan Snyder. It'll take about 3-4 years for the appeals process to happen, and then it depends on if they'll win again or not. Like stated earlier, if the sponsors start dropping the ******** the team name will be changed. Until then they'll be known as the Washington ********, whether you like it or not.

Now if you're an Native American and it affects you I understand. And that's you're right. Fight til you can't fight no more. But all these politicians that's voicing their opinion but I'm 100% sure uses a racial slur in one way or another. Because let's be serious most people do. I just don't want to hear them.

I disagree. All words including slurs have context and that changes their meaning and intent.

There are pet names that I refer to my girl with that aren't appropriate for a random person to refer to her as.

There are nicknames I have for my college roommates that I shouldn't use for any other people on God's green Earth.

All words have context.

I wish the N-Word didn't exist but it's extremely naive and deflective to bring up Jay-Z and the N-Word within the context of this discussion. Do you think Jay-Z is intending to slur or hurt another Black person when he uses that word?

In my time on Earth every time I've seen the N-Word debate take place it's usually from a non-Black person that wants to resolve their guilt in using it to slur someone. I wish the word didn't exist but there is a world of difference between Riley Cooper's use of the word and Jay-Z.

And another thing.

If something isn't right why do people want to pull situations that have NOTHING to do with the topic at hand? If there was another pro team named after a slur I would get it but there isn't. Its like people KNOW the Dipset's real name isn't right but instead of acknowledging that they come up deflective *** debates that don't directly address the topic at hand.

This happens way too much in this country today and its why real change rarely takes place.

I'm sure just as many folks who use slurs, I'm sure there as just as many who don't so I'm not sure what pointing out those folks really does...so whats the point?

Just like there is probably a percentage of Native Americans who aren't even offended by the word and don't care, it doesn't cancel out the one's who do or the general consensus and understanding that the word should probably go bye bye in representing a franchise.

and I'm not sure I would call that a double standard either because you're pulling two situations that aren't similar...because I highly doubt the folks ya'll are calling out have any comparison to Dan Snyder, his business and situation he is involved in. *shrugs*

Nowhere in what I typed did say I the N-Word should be used and that it is okay to use the word.

I'm still trying to figure out what the N-Word has to do with the Dipset's real name within the context of a team's nickname and mascot.

If there was another team with a slur as a name I would get it.

I will never undestand this country's stance on racism and prejeducy when it's supports the country of Israel like it does (see my signature please) ; which is probably one of the most prejudiuce and racist countries in this world. You can't fight for the right of freedom for all when you're helping a country's racist ways towards people because of race/ethnicity.

Making an effort to remove the R******* name is all fine and dandy, but when your actions speak louder than words - it means nothing for the state of progression. I have a real issue with this country's more concerning conflict with the name of the football team being derogatory than they are of the people of the Native American descent's well being.

It's progress one way or another, but we have a long way to go before this country can be proud of it's equal for all stance.

i think in terms of the N word and the R word mascot, if the league is going to flag players for using a racial slur (regardless of context)...they need to change the name of a team that uses a slur. needs to be consistency.

When America was founded its entire economy was based on slave labor. Yet the founding fathers went and said "all men are created equal"

This country was literally founded on hypocrisy.

Instead of arguing about this hypocrisy you do what you can to make a wrong right.

I don't have enough time to point out the things that this country is hypocritial about but what's right is right and what's wrong is wrong.

Man the skins did not need the skins name to make money. They city would have supported this team no matter what they would have called it.

But they ended up naming the team that. And the league allowed. The situation is now that name has History. 67 years of history. 67 years of bringing joy to a lot of people's lives. Me being one of those people. I never looked at it in a negative way nobody I've ever come across has either.

But like I said if Native Americans have a problem with it and right now I only read that some do and some don't. Let them be the ones to tell me. Because right now all I see is white and black politicians fighting to be the one to put "I got the Skins to change their name" . On their resume.
