NFL Commish in the Dark ... By Choice?

The NFL NEVER contacted the casino to request video of Ray Rice brutalizing his fiancee ... TMZ Sports has learned. Commissioner Rodger Goodell made his disciplinary decision in the dark, which raises the question ... Is that the way he wanted it?

Sources connected with the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City tell TMZ Sports ... NO ONE from the NFL ever asked for the video inside the elevator ... video that was compelling enough to get Rice instantly fired.

Sources who worked at the casino at the time of the incident tell us ... if the NFL had asked for the video, they would have gladly complied.

Without video ... Goodell blindly justified the initial 2-game suspension, based on the only evidence they had -- from the two people in the elevator, who called it mutual combat.

Multiple sources tell TMZ Sports ... the casino made a copy of the elevator surveillance video for police. We're also told Rice's lawyer had a copy of the video, which he got in the criminal case.

An NFL source tells us they requested "any and all information" from law enforcement in the criminal case but got nothing because it was a pending case. But the NFL had other options ... namely going to the casino or Rice's lawyer -- but the NFL never bothered to ask.

BTW ... it may sound crazy for Rice's lawyer to voluntarily hand over the video, but the NFL had a lot of leverage ... in the form of severe penalties if Rice didn't ante up the tape.

So the question ... does the NFL have incompetent investigators, or was it just easier to protect a player and turn a blind eye to video that would have forced Goodell's hand? Both scenarios are pretty disgusting.

tmz went from saying they'll prove goodell saw tape to saying the nfl didn't see it 'cause they didn't ask. nfl must have cut that check rather quickly....

goodell somewhere laughing on the back nine

Wait...the measuring stick is what's said in rap songs? Bruh... :smh:

I swear a majority of NT doesn't live in the real world

I swear y'all love lookin at a word instead of the sentence.

I never once compared the situation with a rap song.

Y'all ****** got the comprehension skills of a rock.

First, I wasn't insulting you or calling you a moron for what you said... it is now implied based off your emotional response.

This, dear friend, is a comparison.

why is she getting negative reactions for standing by Ray Rice, when in the past women who did the opposite in similar situations have been ridiculed and dissed in rap songs?

My comprehension skills are quite on point. Your etiquette (above) and your comprehension of what you wrote further gives my point validity.

Your argument is null and void when your real life situation has been compared to Rap Songs... as you JUST did...it's In Writing...

Really can't make that any more clear.

I'd have to say Yes... with Cam hurting I don't see DA going anywhere.

Unbelievable :smh:

What was tmz even trying to accomplish with this? A fat payday from the looks of it

Everyone involved should be going down. Not just one person

He messed up but this situation is bigger than Ray Rice

Now it's all for naught

The NFL Is Just Trying To Do WHATEVER IT TAKE To Get Their Viewers. I Wouldn't Be Surprised Its Fixed Like WWF/WWE. What Happened To The NFL???

On another note Megatron has moved to the 2nd GOAT at that postion for me after what I saw last night. saying that to say this he will have 150+ against the panthers D Sunday. As it pains me to write that.

Someone's gonna get embarrassed or miss an assignment for sure breh, most likely Godfrey. :smh:

Not sure if it was mentioned yet, but I thought Barnwell brought up a good point yesterday (or maybe it was Robert Mays): if the league had a video of Josh Gordon smoking weed, Roger Goodell would have done everything in his power to put it on every media outlet he had access to, just to prove Gordon took a toke.

The fact that Megatron has a QB who don't give a damn and will throw it up reguardless of what position the D is in. Dude is unstoppable, he has 98 yards on 3 catches last night in the first half.

Carson is too little and White is too slow. Then they got pettaway and Ebron running up the middle lanes. Then they got Reggie swinging out in the flats. Their O could really be unstoppable if Stafford is better this year.

DV is uncomfortable and a much stickier situation because you get into relationships, the third party (spouse) and their take, feelings, etc. With drugs Roger can point the finger at one person and only one, much cleaner to discipline

He reeeeaallly hoped this would go away and after week one nobody would bring it back up. TMZ changed those plans quickly

Plus Golden Tate && Joique too :x  lawd I pray we repeat those first 3 quarters of the Tampa game, in terms of the pressure on the QB...otherwise, it could get ugly.

Watching this raven and bengals game. Flacco is a clown.

And no cornerback wants it with Smitty. Nobody. No corner wants to tackle him after he catches it. He literally have dudes shook out there.

that leaving when I suck thing aint looking like a cool sound bite now.

Imma go with Koopa and say it wasn't a comparison to a rap song. It was a comparison to women who did the opposite in similar situations (see large text). He just said those women were dissed in rap songs.

using correct subject verb agreement and correct punctuation doesn't mean you're right. (not talking about the person I quoted here, im just saying) this is done way too often on NT.

DC - any update on Eifert and his injury? He didn't come back in te game, did he?

Bengals should be fine against Atl this weekend. I think you'll find out more about them this week than last (don't trust how good the Ravens are)

No, he never returned. I saw Jay Glazer report that the Bengals expect him to be out for a month. The elbow apparently popped out and right back in, so no ligament damage. Should have him and Marvin Jones back around the same time.

Agreed on what you said about Baltimore. ATL has better WRs and a better QB, but another questionable run game. They're defense is also worse than the Ravens so we should move the ball even better.

I don't know what goes on in their private life outside of this incident, so I'm not gonna call him scum.

He just did something stupid/ broke a "life" rule. I hope they work all this out, cuz the have been together since youngins. Its obvious they love each other.

He bought this on himself though.

Exactly how I feel about the situation. I'm far from a position to sit and condemn. Get the dude the help he needs then let him continue to provide for his family.
