Ray Rice Reportedly Says Alcohol Caused Elevator Assault

The video of then Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice hitting his fiancée (now wife) Janay Palmer in a hotel elevator shocked most of the country, and many wondered why the NFL pro-bowler struck the woman so hard she was knocked unconscious.

Sources are telling TMZ, that Rice is now blaming being intoxicated for the incident. Reportedly, both Rice and Palmer were drinking heavily that night at the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.

The site also reports Rice has been telling friends he is a different person when he is under the influence and has since stopped drinking hard liquor. The couple has also apparently turned their life of to Jesus Christ and were baptized a month after the altercation.

Rice issued a statement that included him saying the couple are “in good spirits” and there are “a lot of people praying” for them. Rice and Palmer are said to be undergoing religious mentoring with other couples.

Ray Rice's actions are indefensible. Right thought, wrong execution from PG24. Reach out privately, not through a public forum. Paul George only comes out looking bad tweeting support when it's trendy and vogue to bash and pile on Ray Rice. As a Rutgers alum, I share neutral stance. What Rice did is disgusting, likely liquored up and exhibiting a short fuse in AC. Could and should have walked away, easier said than done. Or left her period if the relationship and fights were that grueling. Everyone makes mistakes, he just got caught, on tape. He deserves to be suspended, but not for a lifetime ban. Ravens cutting him makes perfect sense, it was the only play and ownership/FO was handcuffed into that decision. Rice presumably needs marriage and anger management counseling, plus year(s) of rehabilitation. I think he should and will play football again in the NFL. By his own action and poor decision-making, Rice has become a casualty of the modern PR era. He's being scapegoated and dragged through the mud.

Social media gives EVERYONE a voice. And everyone feels the need for it to be heard on most issues or incidents, for better or worse

I'm all for speaking out, heck I'm being outspoken with my unconventional opinion about Ray Rice. However, athletes and celebrities have too much to lose through social media. One misplaced tweet, one drunken night, one misconceived photo could literally cost millions and stain your reputation eternally.

Stephen A. still taking up for Roger.... :smh:

Ravens GM said Ray never lied to him and told him exactly what was on the tape. Sounds like Ray might have grounds to file a grievance...

vilma going in..

The NFL hires an independent investigator. That's code for "give us a minute to get our story straight". Can't backtrack anymore huh

Most interceptions since the start of 2010 season:

Eli Manning: 85

Carson Palmer: 72

Drew Brees: 68

Ryan Fitzpatrick: 66

You mean Ravens. Yeah they gambled and somehow Joe had the miracle run. Good to get that trophy but out them in a tight spot moving forward

That said he will shred Pitt tonight :frown:

what the **** up with cam? he looks high at the beginning.
Can the NFLPA get rid of Goodell?

Probably do a vote of no confidence.
I think the only thing they can do is go to bat for Rice. They can't get Goodell fired.
Steelers defense is gonna struggle so much tonight. Bout to make Flacco look like he's worth that contract

Unless the Ravens are playing Michigan, Flacco won't look like he's worth that contract. Couldn't stop laughing after he tried to make a play before halftime and ran out all the time.

Imma chill though 'casuse he's elite.
