I don't blame anyone who thinks a QB is getting 150 million dollars when every news outlet is telling you a QB is getting 150 million dollars. Specifically ESPN, they either don't have a clue either, or choose to not have a clue. They'd rather give you a list of the top 5 highest paid QB's and put Kaep and Flacco up there the second they're signed, with Rodgers, Manning and Brees. Then 15 more minutes of, wow look at this, so much money. Other reporters then follow suit. Even though ESPN is terrible, we all watch Sportcenter for quick highlights and news. There's hundreds of different contracts out there, all uniquely complex. So I usually let it fly when people dont fully understand every stars contract because they didn't take time to dive in and figure out exactly how its structured.
I know I don't. Unless it peaks my interest (Kaeps did), more often than not I dont care enough outside of the Packers. When players get signed, I hear a number, assume its lower than that number, compare it to that positions market value, then compare it to the players level of talent. Just so I at least have an idea.
