'98 bulls is the closet you will ever see.. Pipp had a back injury and other stuff going on with the team

'06 wade hade the refs :nerd:

One player can't win it in basketball but one player can make you a contender. LeBron's old Cavs teams was full of role players and he had them winning 55+ games for a while. That can't happen in the NFL. You got 11 guys on the field, everybody gotta do their job. Probably the closest we've seen to that was AP's 2,000 yrd season and we still knew that team wasn't gonna do anything in the playoffs.

Exciting times, for sure. The end game is the potential being realized for most those picks because the flashes are already there. If they hit though?...ohhhwweee.

That's more my point. Players play both ways, only 5 on the court, guys can play nearly a full game, star player can have the ball initially and score themselves, etc. The sport is fundamentally setup for individuals to have more of an impact vs any other major sport

What one player would you say has won it in the NBA? Obviously Bron had Wade. Those Spurs teams were complete teams. Shaq had Kobe. Kobe had Pau. C's had the Big 3. Dallas had Dirk but a bunch of other guys played out of their mind. Only one is maybe Wade in 2006 (refs were definitely his sidekick) but Shaq was there and other guys stepped up.

Not trying to derail the football talk but I would just say the same applies to football and basketball. However, football is more important about getting hot at the right time
Dirk was the closest since he was the only star or even all-star level player on that team but they were a great team defensive unit with lots of guys who stepped up.

all this jj watt mvp talk..i might be out of line but i think marshawn deserves to be in that conversation. dude has been an integral part of the seahawks' success on offense for multiple seasons.

he might be the only player in canton to have a crotch grab as a bust.

i will say it again -- the Texans would trade JJ Watt straight up fro Russel Wilson or Matt Ryan and they would be fools not to

the "JJ Watt led" Texans will not make the playoffs . let me go ahead and list the quarterbacks that are going to make the playoffs as we speak :

Brady (MVP , super bowl rings)
Luck (franchise QB)
Manning (MVP , super bowl ring)
Big Ben (super bowl rings)
Rivers (franchise QB, 5x pro bowler)
Dalton (shaky QB)

Rodgers (MVP , super bowl ring)
Romo (franchise QB , best QB rating in the league)
Wilson (super bowl ring)
Stafford (franchise QB)
Cardinals (shaky QB situation)
Newton (jury's still out)

almost half have rings , and 75% have franchise QBs . i also wouldnt be surprised if when the AFC central, NFC central, NFC south and NCF west divisions shake out this Sunday the team w the better QB ends up winning the division

there are teams on this list that have gotten a lot of help from their defense , but the defense as a UNIT is what really affects games . JJ Watt is great , dont get me wrong . but the man is not more valuable than a QB . look no further than his own team -- JJ watt has been there a few years and the best the team has been by far is when Matt Schaub was playing consistent and reliable football . JJ was balling last year too and the team was a joke . you really think his play alone this year has elevated the team to 6 (possibly 7) more wins ?

Last years texans were in position to win a lot of those games.

Schaub was throwing pick 6s left and right.

They should've been a 7/8 win team at worst.

I said it before the season started, this team would win 7-9 games and last year was just one of those years where everything went wrong.

I like Russel, but wouldn't trade JJ Watt for him, not sure if he can carry a team for 16 games.

A game here or a game there when the defense isn't cookin or Marshawn isn't.

Matt Ryan who's what? 1-4 / 1-5 in the playoffs? Nah.

like I said, if I was a GM and they called me tomm asking for Watt.

Rodgers or Luck.

That's it.

But to me that kinda goes back to the point. Wouldn't you rather have a good, young QB like Russ (I'm using him specifically)? Say what you want about his impact on the game, but he's efficient, highly knowledgable, and he won't **** up so bad to the point where he'll lose you games, and he's still young so you can bet he'll improve with age. You say you're not sure if he can carry a team for 16 games when no QB has ever done that, it's just not possible. And it's even less true for a defensive player.

Now, I'm not saying he's a better player than JJ Watt, but I just feel like you're giving him just a tad too much credit on his importance in the game over a QB. If you're able to get a good QB in this league, especially a young one, you jump at that opportunity.

First off it's a good discussion without a clear answer—do you take the best player in the league over how many QBs?  But I lean towards disagreeing with you on this one.

I understand why, as a Texans fan, you wouldn't want to trade JJ for very many players.

But I would argue that if you consider the flipside:

-Trade Wilson for Watt and the Seahawks are a dominant defense and no longer a complete team and SB contender.

-Trade Ryan for Watt and the Falcons are still bad.

-Trade Newton for Watt and the Panthers are terrible.

-Trade Kaepernick for Watt and the 49ers aren't playoff contenders the last 3 years.

Does any team trade their franchise QB for JJ Watt and his monster contract?  What's the best case result for them—being the Bills?

But he scored 5 TDs this year!!!!!!

those 1 yd fade routs ? give me a break people . how many other people who dont normally line up as TEs have caught TDs this year in the same situation ? i remember last year the Bengals did it against my patriots . I was just watching the Colts game back , and they did it as well with Anthony Castonzo scoring a TD on the goal line . for crying out loud , Andy Dalton caught one this year , does that really make him a better football player for the team ? its a fairly common "trick play" , people just freak out because its JJ Watt doing it

the defensive TDs he has this year are real true added value , ill agree with that . but you cant depend on those on a week to week basis

#Chiefs QB Alex Smith has lacerated spleen & will not play on Sunday vs. #Chargers, per #Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder.

I'm as befuddled by the mention of Watts offensive TD's as MMG is. I have hardly heard that mentioned by anyone who says Watt should be strongly considered for MVP, including myself.

Watts defensive impact is phenomeal and apparently not as easily detected as I presumed.
