Speaking of that:

The alternative is putting Browner on Torrey Smith, which is a disaster waiting to happen. As I mentioned on Monday, the other Smith has been a defensive pass interference penalty-drawing machine this year, drawing 11 flags for 229 yards this season before adding another 32-yarder in the first round of the playoffs. He has nearly twice as many DPI penalties and yardage drawn as anybody else in football. And Browner’s been a penalty machine for the Patriots, picking up a whopping 15 penalties (including five pass interference calls) in just nine games with New England.

So, Browner on Smith seems dangerous. A third option might be the best way for the Patriots to go: putting Browner on Owen Daniels. Tight ends have been the biggest weakness for the New England pass defense this season; the Patriots rank 17th or better in DVOA against all types of receivers besides tight ends, where they are the third-worst team in football. Daniels is very clearly the third target in a three-man group of receivers for Baltimore; he has 78 targets in 15 games, and the next most-targeted receiver for the Ravens is Kamar Aiken, who has just 33 in 16 games. Browner is far more comfortable on the sidelines than he is working in the slot or around the middle of the field, but by process of elimination, it would be best to use him on Daniels if the Patriots plan on playing a lot of man coverage. That would leave Kyle Arrington, likely with safety help on most plays, against Torrey Smith.

I'm gonna let you know right now...Kyle Arrington on the outside is DEFINITELY a disaster waiting to happen.

Ask any sane Patriots fan.

I'd start out with Browner on Torrey and push the boundaries a bit to see how the refs are calling it. If they have a quick trigger, switch him off to the TE and take your chances with Kyle and safety help.

Keep Revis on Smith Sr. the entire game.

So that's Chester, Gunna, Pro, Fraij, and CP with Marino as their #1.

And what about it, really? They win 11 games on Luck's back as it is, finish out the offense the right way, protect him, give him extra weapons to work with, and start getting 1 and 2 seeds instead of 4 seeds.

Can spend in the draft on defense the year after.

I don't play it year to year, Jimmy was the best last year, this year, next year, etc. Same as some have Tony G the best all time, I have Gates. Jimmy can be Gates, and Gronk can be Tony G, no sweat to me.

For one, Chester posted the raw stats, that's fine, but acting like Graham has played longer or more games because he's older is not the case.

They BOTH game in in 2010. Same rookie year.

Jimmy has started 50 games. Gronk 54.

After their rookie year, Jimmy has caught 99, 85, 86, 85 passes. Gronk, 90, 55, 39, 82.

The Saints use him differently than NE does Gronk. They spread the ball around a ton, alot of it based on Jimmy opening things up, hell they use him as a receiver most of the time, hence their big contract dispute.

Gronk and Edelman have been the big keys the past 3-4 years in NE, whenever Brady needs it, he's going to those 2. They don't spread it around as much as the Saints have. (NE certainly hurt with that with Aaron getting busted, otherwise they possibly do spread it around more)

Last year for instance, the Saints had 142 targets for Jimmy, 111 to Colston, 89 to Sproles, 84 to Pierre Thomas (????) And 54 and 50 to Moore and Stills.

Now, last year Gronk was hurt, but this year Gronk had 131 targets, Edelman 134, LaFell 119, and Vereen 77. Amendola was next at 42. (honestly didn't know LaFell got that many looks this year)

This year without Sproles, Jimmy was the leader again with 126, Colston 99, Stills 83, Cooks 69 (in 10 games), 55 to Thomas, 51 to Cadet (????) And an absolute **** load of guys with 30's and 20's. 5 total.


Jimmy gets a lot of looks, but also opens up a lot of looks for others, that doesn't get mentioned or pointed at on a statsheet. Him lining up all over the place (he lines up in the ******* backfield at times) does a lot to manipulate the defense.

When people credit Gronk for blocking, that's knocking Jimmy for something his team doesn't require him to do, same as Gronk fans don't give him credit for lining up all over the field.

I watch a lot of both teams. I've seen both play a lot of games the last 5 years. Jimmy was hurt this year and still put up 85/900/10 and that doesn't count the Pitt game he "played" without a look, the TD against SF called back, and the 4-5 games he was out there as a decoy. (and I still don't know why they were doing that) And this was a "down" year for Jimmy.

In fairness, he just turned 28 six weeks ago. Gronk turns 26 in a few months. So it's a 2.5 year gap or so.

I don't know his story other than he came to college football late. He was that prototypical TE "basketball" player. He joined the Canes just long enough to drop that touchdown vs Virginia Tech and then went to the draft.

He literally played 1 year of college football and bounced. 17 catches, 5 TD's his one season. 3rd round pick. Combine warrior apparently.
