NFL Discussion Thread: Pats win SB XLIX. Offseason begins

You judge that by watching football.... It's an opinion based on that.
LOL. I'm dying to know who were the Top 10 route runners that year when Jennings was All-Pro at it.

Top 10? Nah.

Names that come up during that time... Fitz, Welker, Jennings, Smitty, Wayne, Andre, Megatron... all in the upper tier conversation.

Welker's option route game was stupid.

If it's not a team or player you like, you're just a "stat boy clown" who cares too much about numbers and not enough about skill, attributes, and actual football abilities.

Or on the flip side, you can discredit a whole season's worth of performance after one quarter of playoff time and then just say "I'm unbiased."

#clowncircumstances

Or on the flip side you could ignore a season worth of objective input and only focus in on one over reaction made on one day, about one quarter of play, that was taken accountability for after the game, and make a full judgment about that person based on that one post.

since you're so good at lurking and finding quotes and saving them in Microsoft word to get lulz on an Internet forum, why don't you dig deeper and see how objective I've been about the Cowboys all season long front and center in this thread?

Props when they've been great, critique and jokes (like everyone else) when they haven't. Numerous times in the thread I've mentioned how stellar Tyron Smith is. Best LT in the league. If you wanna waste time advance searching **** we can go back and find it but I don't see a point in doing so. If I hated the Cowboys with so much bias why would I waste my time complimenting players? Over and over I've said how unfair Dez is. Even when I went to a Chargers vs. Cowboys game last season I was posting about what a monster dez was, as he was tearing apart that SD secondary live in person. Sean Lee has been one of my favorite Lb's for years, when he got injured again in the preseason I was one of the few defending him (to a fault) about being an all-glass team player. I was probably wrong, but the point is I had his back because I respect his abilities. I went to a Cowboys training camp practice for gods sake and posted pictures of me there supporting Dez and Whitten and marveling at their abilities in practice (we can advance search that too if you'd like).

Was that part of the agenda bro? Did I go to a Cowboys practice just to use it against them on an Internet forum 2 years later? I was there because at the end of the day even after all the jokes in fun I respect all NFL talent and love this game to death. Of course I like to see the Cowboys lose, it's funny. But the same goes for other teams. Watching Peyton throw ducks is hilarious, have we not been joking about him and slandering him the laSt 6 weeks on NT? Everyone's fair game Man, and obviously we all over react from time to time.

It's sports. Nothing's a given. Being irrational sometimes is a part of being a fan. But for the most part most of us regulars here respect the top talent no matter what helmet they have on.

It's a shame that I have to waste this much time trying to prove something to you that you won't beleive no matter what evidence I show.

No one said you hate the Cowboys. You just let your love affair for your "2nd" team and Rodgers blind you in the heat of the moment that you were so quick to discredit Romo.

Nothing to be ashamed about. I just call it like I see it.

Uh huh...Tell me more...

I guarantee almost every WR you mention as a "top route runner" will be somewhere in your Top 10 WR list.

Fair enough.

???

You think that was a "gotcha" moment?

It's akin to saying "tell me which QB's are the most accurate... I bet they'll be in your top 10 QB's list". No ****.

Being open is a direct result of running your routes the right way.  Welker caught 12394021409 balls because he would abuse the option routes like no one else and get open.

LOL. You can actually judge accurate QB's through stats though so that example was pretty pathetic.

...but you're right. Greg Jennings was definitely Top 5 in route running that year. No need for further discussion.

Next NT discussion: Fred Taylor's blitz pick-ups on 3rd down were Top 3 during his era.

TD isn't in the HOF. He was great but not for a long enough time period.

Not to mention, every RB after him in that system had 1000 yard seasons.

I think he definitely gets in the hall.

Romo too if he gets a ring to add to all his numbers.

Witten is in the Hall...no question. I don't think Romo has any real shot to get in the Hall of Fame with or without a ring and I'm a Dallas fan. His regular season stats are good but he's had too many failures in big moments and hasn't been real successful in the playoffs or made it very often for that matter.

He's the modern day Danny White; if he wins a ring as the starting QB he'll at best be respected by Dallas fans and MAY get in the ring of honor at the stadium.

Former Browns/Jets HC and current 49ers assistant Eric Mangini will interview for the ******** DC job per sources.

Oh, we're talking 3rd down blitz pickups now???

you already know :pimp:

terrell davis (first 4 years, 95-98)

•season

61 games
6413 rushing yards (105 yards average per game)
1 td average per game (56 rush, 5 receiving)

•playoffs

8 games
1140 rushing yards (142 yards average per game)
12 tds (1.5 average per game)

3x 1st team all-pro
2x superbowl champion
superbowl 32 mvp
98 nfl mvp
rushed for 2008 yards in 98. he sat out 8 full quarters in the season when the broncos had a good lead in a game. in a sense, he rushed for 2008 yards in 14 games. if shanahan played him for those 8 quarters, the rushing record for a season could have been broken.
2008+125.5+125.5 = 2259 rushing yards (estimate based on average rushing yards per game in 98)
rushing record - 2105 by dickerson

•first 4 years rushing in nfl history

eric dickerson - 6968 yards, 4.8 ypc
earl campbell - 6457 yards, 4.6 ypc
terrell davis - 6413 yards, 4.8 ypc

no member in the hof has more rushing touchdowns than terrell davis (56) in their first 4 years in the nfl.

Marc Bulger? The guy that never threw for over 24 touchdowns? The guy that had a 122:93 TD to INT ratio? The guy that went 41-54?

I went over this before ........Was Marc Bulger= Kurt Warner? No

But when he had similar weapons he put up good numbers. Bulger had a 26-10 when he had weapons like Warner

Bulger played well enough for them to cut Kurt Warner

Similar to how Denver had a bunch of running backs do great in that system but Terrell Davis was the best

The Rams had a bunch of weapons in that system, so guys could put up good numbers but Kurt Warner was the best of the system

Ehhh.

I think your minimizing his career. Yea he had alot of blunders but his numbers compare to all time greats. That can't be discredited.

And all it takes is one ring and people forget about the bad and think of you as a winner.

All it takes is one to solidify your "legacy" in today's super bowl or bust way of thinking.

Again, for everyone saying the system is holding back TD's case, where do you draw the line with this stuff? How much do you hold it against players?

I'm stuck on Bruce and Holt because we're talking about Warner but do you hold votes away from them because of the Martz system they succeeded in? Because IMO they're both HOF'ers as well.

I feel like if you use that excuse, then you need to use it across the board.

Well average QBs today can have numbers compared to some of the all time greats. Have to compare to his era (not saying he can't go in but impossible to compare QB numbers to back in the day)
