And Brady did all that in an era where the league now protects the quarterback, and where receivers arent allowed to get touched or heads taken off by the secondary. Brady is the closest QB next to Joe though.

I go by the regular qb rating. Espn always pulling random **** to fit their agenda when it comes to A > B

As far as 4 vs 6, you have to take the competition and conference strength into play. That hurts Brady compared to Joe IMO but still 4/6 is incredible

But a significant reason why competition + conference play was tougher back then was due to no unrestricted free agency or a salary cap. Continuity and stability is much easier to maintain as a result and that's huge. There were also 28 teams in the league during the 80's vs. 32 present day. None of that can be ignored.

Hearing all these arguments reiterates to me that there will never be a definitive answer though. We won't reach a consensus because there are philosophical differences in the way we view these things. It's just gonna keep going round & round in circles just like Peyton vs. Brady and similar discussions.

If we really want to keep it funky...it's the Colts' fault since they planted the seed for today's NFL w/ soft rules benefiting the offense. Bill Polian, who just so happened to be part of the competition committee, got the ball rolling after Ty Law and those boys molested their receivers in the playoffs.

The funny **** to me is in recent seasons after the playoffs begin (and fantasy football is done)...the flags don't fly as often and they flat out let 'em play in the Superbowl. So much for that.

Colts looking funny in the light w/ all that snitching.

I found an interesting chart listing QB records when their defense gives up 24 or more points
