Soft?

:smh:

Some of you guys are very short sighted, youth football numbers are down, guys retiring younger, these are not good signs.

I love football, played my whole life, but you're kidding yourself if you don't think this sport is going to undergo a significant change in the coming decades.

Nobody is saying it wont exist, but it losing popularity over changes to the game is very real.

30% of NFL players suffer from alzheimers or dementia after retirement.

One of the most painful things imaginable if you have ever experienced that with a family member.  And can hit in the 40s or 50s for these guys.  Is the value of that money worth taking 30 years off your life?
Not surprised.
Wait for me to be proved wrong then.

Borland etiring after one season when he didn't even have concussion problems? I don't get it. Props to him for foregoing a potential stellar career but I think he's too soft. Can't even say he set himself up for life because how much did he really make.

Like what the others said, the NFL won't be affected. Many others willing and waiting for the shot to replace him.

Props but then call him soft? Huh?

As far as the '1000 guys will take his spot', that's true, but remember those guys aren't as good. So that's how the talent pool drops when more and more leave the game early. Football will never go away, but if you don't think Roger and the league are worrying about this and the fears/issues with youth football, you would be mistaken. Younger and the better athletes being pushed to other sports has a long term effect

Wrong or right I've never seen you say anything other then a hawks move was good.

Have a coke and a smile bruh.
You are catching feelings very hard because I insulted your Vince Wilfork signing.

I compliment good moves all the time by teams around the league.  I'm sorry that this wasn't one—I can't help you there.

Boxing stopped being a popular sport because of politics not because of violence

A marquee fight tops just about everything besides the Super Bowl

The words soft and quitter are appropriate in this situation but that doesn't mean it's not smart

It just a question of how you want to live risk and reward type of thing

I also think Borland is very young. The NFL is a tough *** buisness.

Unless he invests his remaining money smartly he probably will regret leaving the game early before he got a huge payday.

There's no kid in American today looking at Muhammad Ali saying "I want to be like Ali."

If you don't think that's had a marked impact on the talent pool in American boxing, you're wrong.  And its popularity has been hugely effected by that talent pool.  One marquee fight a year speaks to how weak that pool is, and it's only getting weaker...

It's not a coincidence that boxing is most popular in developing countries or places like Mexico and Russia that have a certain type of attitude towards these things.

Stop making sense.

Many well to do families already steer their children away from violent sports, but i guess dudes missed LeBron saying publicly he wont let his kids play football.

If you're a parent and your child shows promise in sports why wouldn't you steer them towards the safer alternatives?

It's not like it's not happening in front of our eyes. Less kids are playing football how wouldn't that diminish the future talent pool?

Not to mention you stand to make more money playing baseball or basketball or hockey.

The UFC is young enough that we haven't seen its biggest star a stumbling, drooling disaster in his late middle age.  Yet.

Ever listen to Joe rogan's podcast? He talks about this a lot and has even mentioned names of dudes that he has seen gone down hill and is actually worried about.

You can make more money in those but the chances of making money off those sports are smaller

Rosters of 12 to 25 vs a roster of 53

Also those sports are played all across the world which means more competition

Nobody with sense has at UFC and thought it looked safer than boxing.

Ever
While the sport is growing, it's still a marginal sport in America and that's going to prevent it from ever being a top, mainstream sport like the big 4.  Of course fighting sports will always retain niche popularity.

I'd say the UFC already on the same level or close to being as popular as the NHL

In the south the interest in the NHL is low

I believe NASCAR is more popular than the NHL
